TBF as a kid the only thing I remember about the reign of terror is that it made the WHC look like the most prestigious price in all of wrestling. Like the lengths HHH will go to keep hold of that made me think that. It also created two bonafide stars in Randy and Batista. So for all the complains about the reign I would say it does achieve some great things.

I might be alone on this but I enjoyed the Triple H run. We got the Shawn Michaels Triple H feud. When you really look there weren’t many other talents that really could have carried the company long term.
You're not alone in that. This is when I started watching Wrestling and Trips was the final Boss of most title feuds and he was good at it. All of this made HBK and HHH my top two wrestlers of all time and the only real contentious stuff is the Booker T stuff which I admit was fucked up but it really wasn't that long of time of his reign. The rest of it for me at least was great.
The Reign of Terror was weird. He got a lot of heat on him and had some of his best work during this era. There were moments like Booker T and Shawn Michaels that really should've either won the title or had it longer. It did make him unbeatable which made him losing a big deal Shelton Benjamin, Benoit, Batista all wins that felt bigger because it was the Reign of Terror. He was definitely over exposed and his promos were really meh most of the time.
Never understood the HHH Booker T story line in general because, booker t was as he told us every week for 3 years prior to this feud ,the 5 time 5 time 5 time 5 time 5 time WCW champion. Literally the same belt they were feuding over. So for the story line to be someone like him will never be champion, or bever becomes wold champion, literally made no sense, even to guilible 9 year old me.
I freaking hated how Triple H would take forever to cover someone after hitting the Pedigree, I remember that Booker T match vividly and thought Booker would kick out for sure because of how long Triple H took to cover him.
One of my biggest issues with the attitude Era was that basically the heels ran roughshod over everyone. So many times there would be a double cross or beat down or someone cheating to win and so often you would have the face come out the following week or something and cut a promo about how they WOULD NOT LET STAND!! Only to end up falling anyway and getting beaten and embarrassed. Being a face during the attitude era must have been a nightmare. Mind you while you cannot deny that the HHH reign of terror was a real thing and horrific if you go back a bit earlier, around 1998-2001 Triple H was involved in so many dark end of show segments that basically just saw him eat a succession of finishers from the current hot face. He ended up on the wrong end of that a lot. Part of the problem was WWE losing Rock and Austin. They were really the only two people who were clearly ahead of Triple H on the main event Totem pole. Undertaker went to Smackdown, probably because he could see the writing on the wall.
Naw, Reigns is doing alright. If anybody recently has had a reign of terror, Id say Lesnar. Granted im biased as ive never cared for Lesnar, but who has he ever helped elevate? Sorta Rollins, maybe? Sorta McIntyre? Yeah he's a draw for the masses, but dude is a creative buzzkill into today's day and age.
I can understand having Triple H be part of the title matches in the beginning (2002 - 2003) but he should have lost to RVD and Booker T. Those guys should have been given chances to have a run with the title.
Yeah, it stopped the momentum of some guys like Booker T, but Vince didn’t like WCW’s Booker T, he wanted the WWE version of Booker T which he finally got; guys like Rob Van Dam, Vince probably likes the guy but doesn’t understand why he is so over, can’t get him work WWE-style because RVD is the DNA of ECW… But, he took Randy Orton and Dave Batista under his wing, he helped made Shelton Benjamin, Eugene who were all homegrown talents.
Hey Ross could you react to the love triangle between Matt Hardy, Edge and Lita video from Superkick Studios also love your videos man always a joy to watch
"Winning when they're supposed to" would be too expected and boring, just like Roman - we expected Brock to beat him twice and he hasn't. Which that is making it more entertaining
As much as his title reign was way too long in most people’s eyes, be honest who else could’ve had such a similar run with the title. He was stuck with elevating a new championship that was going to compete with the wwe championship. Fans may hate it but if they hate him for winning all the time, then he did his job…like him or not he was the face of the company and during those years he made the most sense as RAW’s heavyweight champion.
I thought the "reign of terror" was fine, and I think people forget all the crap that happened to get us to where we are today. Shawn Michaels' last match was supposed to be Summerslam 2002, but Vince was able to talk him into Survivor Series and Armageddon later that year, which would've been his retirement match. Michaels wasn't to retire against Triple H, and while people can argue all that want, they had a HELL of a match and feud. Scott Steiner was originally supposed to beat Triple H at WrestleMania 19, but Scott couldn't have a good match against anybody at that time, and WWE had to pivot at the very last minute. Booker T and Triple H are friends in real life, and while you can make the argument that Booker T should've won, Booker T has gone on record of not really caring. He's not a belt guy, and he was happy wrestling his friends and getting paid. The same goes for RVD who rarely if ever talked to the writers or Vince. One reason Booker T may not have won is because he was dealing with an injury and worked a limited schedule between March and June, and would have surgery done in August. And as a side note on the ending of the Triple H/Booker T WM19 match, Booker T actually botched the Harlem Hangover off the top rope, and he's laughed that he's NEVER landed so badly on anybody ever before. It's one of his biggest botches, and he landed on Triple H's face which given Triple H's limited schedule afterward, makes people wonder whether he had a concussion. Next up was Kevin Nash who is a good friend of Ric Flair, Booker T, Michaels, and Triple H, and was also getting into movies around that time. Kevin Nash is and was a big name in 2003, and he had some really great matches that year. Their Hell in a Cell match is really underrated in my opinion. As for Summerslam, I personally agree with saving the one-on-one match for Unforgiven. Goldberg was having bad matches with Christian and Chris Jericho, and even his match with Shawn Michaels didn't go so well. Goldberg didn't want to be there, and nobody really wanted to wrestle him. He was a flop and was leaving in March. Chris Benoit was the lowest drawing world champion at that point in 2004, and Eddie wasn't doing so hot either. Orton was getting cheered more than either Benoit or Edge, and the decision was made to make Orton champion. He was originally going to keep the title longer, but old Orton was a screwup, and he screwed up several times and in big ways in just a month's time. He went from retaining the title to losing it. As for why the title was vacated, that was a creative decision, but it also played into the storyline of the babyfaces winning Survivor Series and screwing over Evolution. Crowning Batista at WrestleMania 21 was always the long term goal. As for creative, Triple H also sat in on Smackdown's production meetings, and he has a decade of NXT content to look at. Did he book himself to be champion? No, that was Vince McMahon, and Triple H was the top heel of the company besides himself. Scott Steiner, Goldberg, Benoit, and Orton all flopped in 2003-04. Yes, he won five world titles in four years, and The Rock won NINE between 98-21, and Austin won five between 98-01. Should the booking have been different? Probably, but that's the case with anything, and people forget WWE was losing a LOT of money around this time due to WWE The World. Things weren't looking good financially, and they just needed to hold the fort down a lot of the time. That's one reason why Vince took Brock Lesnar leaving so personally.
The only difference between H's backstage politics in being number one ahead of everyone compared to Cena's is that H is a heel and we are supposed to hate him.
Biggest mistake/booking fail was not having Booker T win the title at WM 19. Booker T was way over at this time. Imagine the crowd reaction if Booker won. You know Vince not letting WCW guys go over his top WWE guys just look at the Sting vs HHH match
I found Triple H reign was ok. I love when a hated villain gets body counts just to sale how much far they are willing to go. Triple H, Edge and CM Punk has to be my favorite villains in rings during this PG era. Hell I even have a spot for Booker T heel personality. Which I probably would have liked more than a Babyface Booker T
I don’t hate triple h honestly if just lost at mania 19 and summerslam 03’ it wouldn’t have been that bad Benoit had the belt for 6 months Randy for a month Goldberg for 2 months and with smackdown being amazing for basically the whole time frame his reign of terror was going on it didn’t bother me as much as other did but it’s just absurd that he didn’t have the belt for only 8 months out of the 3 and half years he couldn’t feuded with Nash and HBK without the strap but it’s better than what we got now in wwe where it’s just Brock and Roman and whoever they’ll beat next lol with the occasional Cena appearance since he’s in his Rock 02-04 point of his career
Maybe the Reign of Terror is the reason Vince doesn’t push NXT wrestlers that HHH build up, it’s like if HHH made a deal with The Devil and now Vince is collecting back by not pushing the wrestlers HHH produced because HHH did the same I don’t know tho that’s just my thought
This was the error when Triple H had the nickname on months my friend says KKKY jelly, because after that Booker T. promo it was clear triple H’s opponents were just there to collect the check pull down their pants and grabbed your ankles for the son-in-law
Looks like wwe is doing the same thing with Roman Reigns but making him win every time. At least it was more entertaining back then which says a lot to today's product
one recent mind blowing fact i found out is batista and orton were supposed to represent the future of wrestling, but batista is actually older than hunter
You should definitely check out Eyepatch Wolf's wrestling videos they are gold and are well made, definitely some good vids to check out they are long but good
I guess I'm part of the minority that says if it wasn't for the so called "Reign of Terror", the world title wouldn't have been as prestigious as we've come to know it
It was just filled with bad matches. Triple H was in bodybuilder mode when he came back from his quad injury in 2002. He was way too muscular and it affected his in-ring work. Plus the guys he had to work with were not a good crop. Kane, Scott Steiner, Goldberg, Kevin Nash. The whole Booker T feud put a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Triple H also suffered a bad groin injury in the summer of 2003 that hampered him until December, which ruined his matches with Goldberg. 2004 was a bit better because he was less muscular and working with Shawn Michaels and Chris Benoit all the time.
You need to check out that Slilent Library episode with those WWE Stars. There are some painfully funny moments in there. Including Dolph getting smashed in the nuts and legit, no kayfabe.
I thought them giving him the title was bad they should've did a tournament and have him and RVD face each other in the finals. HBK winning it and then losing wasnt bad because HBK didnt wanna be champion. Steiner feud was bad but it wasn't HHH fault.. Steiner was bad in the ring. Booker T should've won it, I think he lost it because Nash was coming back and they wanted to have that feud. They still couldve had Booker win it and then lose it at Backlash. Goldberg shouldve won it at Summer Slam and drop it at the Royal Rumble. But having Goldberg vs Brock was the ish they wanted. I have no ish with the HEEL holding the title long... hell JBL did. Roman have the title for 500 days now.
Hey he made being son in law work..lol He could pitch to good old dad over beers and good food at all times. Hell he could even be around when others made their pitch. People probably even seen themselves going through Hunter to get to Vince to get ahead.

I always liked Triple H and is a legend but damn guy was a ego maniac when he was younger always telling wrestlers they’re not good enough and marrying the boss’s daughter. Crazy how he went from that to now pushing talent
It’s funny to see cuz looking back at the way he pretty much took Kurt as a joke and said Steph would never leave him for loser like that is so dumb. The fact Goldberg lost the mini streak and then won the title the literal next ppv. It made no sense at how much growth he stunted the company from having. To then go and become the head of NXT and practically ushering in “new” indie talents tearing it up. How the years change you.
As New Subscriber I love your Wrestling Reactions 😅23:44
I feel like booker T should have won at Wrestlmaina because you don’t put Someone personal backstory into a story and you have him with great Momentum and triple h used his backstage power to beat him but my point is using a wrestlers backstory will get the person mad and make really want to Beat You Up
I think the win makes sense because it built more towards Evolution. But I think the ending was bad. And that Booker should have won later in the year.
That's Not what happened. Booker T was NEVER supposed to win .😒 The plan was for Triple h to hold the title and drop it to Goldberg 👍 . That's not Triple h's fault. That Was Vince's plan for over a year
Jeff Jarrett says "Hold my beer, I can be worse than that"
13:05 for example imagine if AJ Styles lost to John Cena at Summerslam sure he lost at Royal Rumble but AJ was a WWE champion nearly 6 months after his debut and that was because how red hot he was after Summerslam
Triple was an excellent heel one of the best. With that said, the backstage politics and marrying into the family to get his way by burying others is the reason he will never be respected like Stone Cold, Rock, Taker etc
Triple h is very well respected tho and he was a Star before he married Stephanie but nobody wants to admit that triple h was the man in 1999-2000 before he married her
@@ahmadceasar5484 YES HE WAS A STAR before he got married with steph
but his title reigns/push IF HE DIDNT GET MARRIED TO STEPH IS A BIG QUESTION LMAO
the rock, stone cold, taker didnt hold the title sorry HUG THE TITLE for that long AND BURIED possible NEW FACES FOR WWE
LOL
@@markangelogarcia2584 he was literally a multi time champ before they were married and was already a WrestleMania main eventer in 2000 second he lost the title many times in this reign of terror so he wasn't hugging it, let's not forget most of stone cold reigns were the same he'd win it lose it to someone and get it back a ppv or two later let's not forget the rock and mankind literally handed the title back and forth for like 3 ppvs but since triple h married Stephanie none of that matters right?
@@ahmadceasar5484 i know but his SUCCESS if he didnt get married to steph is QUESTIONABLE
he isnt as popular as the rock or stone cold or even taker so why give him a multi year title reign keeps defeating TOP TALENT who has potential and burying them? kane, booker t and goldberg c'mon
why
oh because its vince's SON IN LAW
@@markangelogarcia2584 bro triple h literally carried the industry at one point he was literally the best wrestler on either show or company and to say he wasn't as popular is a lie when you think of the attitude era you don't over look triple h when you think of the ruthless aggression era he was the top dog what are you saying just because he married Stephanie does not take away the work he put in
Triple h did hurt Monday night raw between 2002 & 2005 because he wanted the world heavyweight championship so badly
It goes back farther than that, there was a point in time in the 90's where there was a dx member in every match consecutively
He was entertaining as hell in 2003-2004 , a very believable heel. If you could actually make me hate you as a heel then you are doing your job
Fun fact batista won the world title exactly 2 yrs and 2 months after evolution debuted (minus 2 days)
The rinse & repeat "Triple H victory" during the Reign of Terror is eerily similar to the finishes of Roman Reigns matches now.
Roman is borderline Reign of Terror 2: Pun Intended
Naw, Reigns is doing alright. If anybody recently has had a reign of terror, Id say Lesnar. Granted im biased as ive never cared for Lesnar, but who has he ever helped elevate? Sorta Rollins, maybe? Sorta McIntyre? Yeah he's a draw for the masses, but dude is a creative buzzkill into today's day and age.
@@welshbandit7208 but who have the current Roman elevated beside his cousins?
Ross u need to check out Jeff Jarretts regin of terror it makes HHH look like childs play in TNA lasted way longer lol.
I remember the Katy Vick thing I was young lol looking back on it now that storyline was so weird.
Goldberg had it for almost 3 months and Benoit 5 but I agree but Triple h is my all-time favorite so I love it lol
Triple H run is just like Roman reigns run because they held the title until WWE builds a superstar to beat them they did Triple h with bastisa
And lost viewership in the process
@@willt8848 Wow
You should check out markyd123's version of Jeff Jarrett reign of terror. Its worse if you can believe it.
"I'm the greatest...... wrestler..... alive...... today" every week was getting tired during the reign of terror
He had that title in a koji clutch.
The Kane story was insane lol
"Winning when they're supposed to" would be too expected and boring, just like Roman - we expected Brock to beat him twice and he hasn't. Which that is making it more entertaining
Ross definitely gotta check out the Jeff Jarrett reign of terror video
Love you ross
It's happening again now. We got the Roman Reign of terror....
Triple H had the big Gold belt on lock for 3yrs damn near..2002 to 2005
As much as his title reign was way too long in most people’s eyes, be honest who else could’ve had such a similar run with the title. He was stuck with elevating a new championship that was going to compete with the wwe championship. Fans may hate it but if they hate him for winning all the time, then he did his job…like him or not he was the face of the company and during those years he made the most sense as RAW’s heavyweight champion.
Don't forget 2000 😂😂😂😂😂
Not gonna lie to me the HHH reign was the best of WWE for titles
You should check out How Adam Would Book Rey Mysterio's World Heavyweight Championship Reign.
I straight up missed this era because I was purely watching Smackdown during that time
When he switched from pants to tiny little underpants he activated terror mode.
Triple h the best heel in this era 💪🔥
yeah best heel too BAD HE HUG THE TITLE FOR SO LONG
he could have drop it and regain it which is BETTER
@@markangelogarcia2584 At the end of the day Vince has the final say
The only difference between H's backstage politics in being number one ahead of everyone compared to Cena's is that H is a heel and we are supposed to hate him.
If Kanes gimmick was real, every member of Evolution would have been hunted down and killed. Because they all did Kane so dirty so many times.
Biggest mistake/booking fail was not having Booker T win the title at WM 19. Booker T was way over at this time. Imagine the crowd reaction if Booker won. You know Vince not letting WCW guys go over his top WWE guys just look at the Sting vs HHH match
I read somewhere that HHH carried Raw through that time after Austin and Rock left and Brock and Angle were on Smackdown
He didn’t carry since raw was doing wayyy worse than smack down and he couldn’t draw a dime
23:40 🤣🤣
Looks like wwe is doing the same thing with Roman Reigns but making him win every time. At least it was more entertaining back then which says a lot to today's product
one recent mind blowing fact i found out is batista and orton were supposed to represent the future of wrestling, but batista is actually older than hunter
I still think HHH's best promo is the one he didn't say a word. Shit was legendary.
“Am I f’n going over” will live in infamy
thank God at that time we had Smack Down on UPN 9! and the Smack Down 6's
Reign of terror from dec 03-April 05 was perfect tho with the right ending
Someone kinda put a pause on the Reign of Terror in 2004 at WM20.....but WWE won't talk about that now.
I will refute RVD being the heart of Raw lol. I liked Rob but I never saw him as the core of Raw or anything like that.
Not arguing, but who do you think would have held that title back then? Goldust maybe? 🤔
@@welshbandit7208 Rob could've been champ and he was hot at the time it's just when I think Raw 2002 Rob doesn't immediately comes to mind.

Booker T not winning won’t ever sit right with me
Vince Mcmahon Thought That Katie Vick Segment Was High Comedy ? WTF
No offence to triple h. But back then he didn’t deserve it. He didn’t earn it he was just given it.
All I'm saying is triple h was a Star before he married Stephanie and nobody wants to admit it and that's a shame
How did Kane become mayor after what happend with Katie 😆
Lets be honest
Triple H was the guy sent to eliminate WCW guys
They just gave him the title with NO tournament to get heat on him👍.
Oh Hail My Master of WWE HHH
And he wasn’t done… 10 years later he got Sting another wcw burial
HHH would be a jobber on saturday night if he was fired after the curtaincall .
Hey he made being son in law work..lol He could pitch to good old dad over beers and good food at all times. Hell he could even be around when others made their pitch. People probably even seen themselves going through Hunter to get to Vince to get ahead.
It was a bad segment between booker t and triple h heading to WrestleMania XIX in 2003
