Which drugstore brands should I try next?! Also, I will be posting a Denman vs. KISS brush comparison next Sunday so make sure you're subscribed to my channel so you don't miss it.
I discovered how important brush styling is for me through you Gena. I don’t even have to section or be precise either. I bought the Cantù brush similar to the kiss brush and it works fine. My favorite brush is a paddle brush with both boar and nylon bristles from Conair. It’s amazing to keep frizz away. I always love your reviews. Would definitely like to see the Hask curl cream. I’m looking for another affordable option.
I just tried the Mielle Avocado Moisturizing Hair Milk and used it as a leave in and I loved it. So far I have only used it once, just a little. I have very fine, low porosity, low density hair. I bought the Mielle Pomegranate & Honey Moisturizing & Detangling Shampoo & Conditioner. I’ll see how that goes. I’m a little worried it will be too moisturizing but I’ll see. Love your channel. I’m 57 and learning so much from you. Thank you. ❤
Yes, please compare the Kiss brush to the Denman brush! Another somewhat affordable blowdryer that I love is the Infintipro by Conair from Costco. The diffuser has the nice long prongs. Something I do after every wash is rinse with distilled water because we live in a rural area with very hard water (seems to help).
Ever since I discovered mousse again (after letting it go past the 90s LOL), I have been so thrilled with my hair. It doesn't get bogged down by heavy creams (no matter how little I used), and it seems to not get fuzzy at all, because yes I put a little bit of gel over top of it all. My profile pic is day 3, so wash day is much nicer for me. Haven't been able to combat the flat root situation yet, though, but I think it's just me and just not having enough texture to begin with; I work with what I have, right? :) I love your videos, Gena. You are like the "gap" here on YT between super curly and wavy; I love that! Love India (Batson) for that reason too, and Courtney (swavycurly)
I love HASK, I use their shampoo, conditioner, leave-in spray (sometimes), curl cream and the gel. It works best for me in the winter and gives me great volume and amazing curls that last 3+ days without any refresh. If it is supposed to rain, I just put the In-shower Style Fixer from Curlsmith on top of the gel before difusing, they work great together. SMASTERS works great as well with the HASK gel for me.
Having tried the Hask Curl Care line, I think the star of the show is definitely the curl cream which has really great hold. I do agree that the jelly is best applied to damp hair. The deep conditioner is also really great!
Yea I would love to see how other Hask products work out. I used to use Hask coconut shampoo and conditioner a long time ago but I have noticed that they changed their products a bit.
Would love to see you using both. In Europe Hask, so far, is the best drugstore cream and gel I could find for my dry, fine, curly hair. Lot of the US brands we can't get, and from the typical brands (Fructis, L'Oreal etc) I found Hask the best. Very open for good European available recommendations though! 😊
That is the same blow dryer I use, agree it takes longer. I loved Suave Clarifying w/ Coconut (brown). My hair never felt stripped afterwards. It is no longer in the stores. I do not like the new clarifying Suave (blue bottle) - too drying.
@@GenaMarie thanks. I'm currently living overseas in a very hot & humid area, and I don't have easy access to a lot of products. I've used the Hask cream & gel together before, but I felt that I had to use a lot of the gel to get a decent hold since the cream is a bit heavy. Looking forward to seeing what tips you have if you review both together. Lately I've been using Hask curl cream with Kristen Ess gel. It's ok, but still looking for that perfect combo.
My hair is super super fine and low density. So far the Kristen Ess light conditioner is the only one that doesn’t weigh my hair down and transforms my waves into actual curls. Their volumizing shampoo did nothing for me however my three straight haired sisters love it. All the experimenting is definitely tiresome (and costly) but it’s great when you find something that works for you. I’m going to explore Gina’s website to see if she has any recommendations for light conditioners too.
Loved this! I would love to see the opposite: all of the highest end products like Oribe’s curly line , including their $70 hair mask😅, diffusing with the Dyson. Regardless, love your content! It’s helped me a lot.
I think Courtney (Swavy curly channel) has stopped using the Suave clarifying shampoo because the new formula made the hair feel way too stripping. So I wonder if using a different shampoo will help provide different results 😊
Was not a fan of that Shea Moisture deep conditioner, but maybe i dont have the right hair type for it. My fav line so far that works best for me is Cake! Its aweodme, especially the mousse!
I noticed you didn't use a heat protectant. Is it a step that really makes a difference? If I'm using a cream, foam and gel is that enough to protect from heat? Really enjoy your channel. ❤ Your videos are really helpful. Thank you ❤😊
I usually do use a heat protectant! I just was trying to keep it simple and minimal products for this budget video. The products don’t really protect from heat unless the label says so
@GenaMarie You have helped me so much on my curly hair journey, I really want to thank you! 😊 Another question I had is about "curly shampoo". Is there much of a difference between regular shampoo and curly shampoo? Do you know if there are benefits I am missing by not using a curly shampoo and conditioner? Thank you again! ❤
Diffusing question: So I'm confused how long I should diffuse for. I usually do it till the cast is gone which takes around 15mins. But my hair dries really fast and I could get away doing it only for 5 minutes. I struggle with frizz and lack of hold and idk if I'm over diffusing.
In my town the hard water is so bad that I pretty much have to clarify my hair every wash day, ik that it can be used too much but if you live in an area similar to me you pretty much have no choice but my hair doesn’t turn out so bad so I’m happy with it
Ouch, that sounds super drying. Unsolicited advice but have you tried apple cider vinegar rinses instead of clarifying everyday? Before getting our filter, I would do a rinse and it helped with the buildup and kept my hair soft.
I hear you. I clarify at least every other wash and if it doesn’t work then I’ll use a chelating shampoo because it just feels gunky. Thanks to the hard water. I want to get that filter so bad.
If you don’t have hard water in your home what is the benefit of using a “clarifying “ shampoo . My red curly hair is very dry and my understanding based on what I’ve learned about curly hair is to avoid sulfates in shampoos because they can be so drying.
Clarifying shampoos clean your hair of build up from products which can weigh down your hair and stretch out your curls. You don't use them everyday tho and using a deep conditioner after can help with the dryness.
I would actually recommend a sulfate-free clarifying shampoo so it's not as drying as this Suave one. Clarifying shampoos will remove product buildup, oil, sweat, pollution, chlorine, etc.
Do you have any suggestions on what I could use that is similar ( in ingredients) to the Not Your Mothers Curl Cream mask in the pouch? They only have a bonding deep conditioner. I don’t need bonding.
Any of their other deep conditioners are similar! This one also is protein-free just like the curl talk mask that was discontinued: howl.me/ckulaiVHp00

Cantu. I love their cream shampoo.
Love Not Your Mothers and Cantu, but I assume you have done those already. Been interested in Shea Moisture, OGX, Aussie and Maui Moisture.
I’m glad you try Hask gel it’s one of top brands I want to test. Thanks 🤍

I love the Suave shampoo! It helps keep my silver hair from yellowing. Also, thanks for reviewing the Hask gel, I've had my eye on it for some time. 🙂

I would then use a protein gel to “balance” it. All of those are good choices. ❤
Unfortunately protein dries my hair out. I use a protein rich deep conditioner once a month though. ❤️

Camille rose is a good drugstore brand as well as kinky curly! Not your mother's also has a huge selection

The Shea Moisture Protein Power Treatment is a powerhouse for me when my curls need a lift!
I'm definitely looking forward to you brush comparison, Kiss vs Denman!
Coming this Sunday!

I used the Conair diffuser but got a lot of frizz with it. I definitely upgraded to the curlsmith travel size diffuser and it was a game changer.
That is the same blow dryer I use, agree it takes longer.
I loved Suave Clarifying w/ Coconut (brown). My hair never felt stripped afterwards. It is no longer in the stores. I do not like the new clarifying Suave (blue bottle) - too drying.
Your hair looked great! I am always amazed how long your hair really is, when wet 😮
Love this type of video! Thank you for the information for us curly girls!
Yes to both videos
I think your hair looked great! Love the Hask products but hadn’t tried the gel ❤
Hi Gena! Yes, would love to see using the Hask gel with the curl cream. Also, have you tried Kristen Ess products?
Yes, I have. They were good! Nothing wowed me enough to make a whole video on it. However i can probably incorporate them some. I need to test more

Yes to the video ideas you mentioned! 😊

Damn! I think this is your best hair yet!
Thanks! Just wish it felt better 😕
Suave clarifying shampoo is great
Thank you for this video. I really enjoyed your review

I had to stop using Suave products years ago because my hair would get so dry. Hope they changed their formula and it wasn't so stripping.
Pretty sure I have the new formula and it was definitely stripping 😕
Wow. Nice results. Thanks. Ready to try. Where can I get the brush please.
Please bro g the video with there 2 products.
Everything is linked in the description!

please try out deep conditioning with a heated cap ❤
I have! I showed that in my recent Deep Conditioning 101 video and some others in the past

I like Hask but not a fan of the scent of the mousse or cutl cream
Hair looks great but if it doesn't feel good, no bueno
That gel is trash, I sent it back to Amazon, the Hask curl care leave in is very nice though
