I really wanted to listen to this as I watched but the volume is too low. I turned on the Closed Captioning and was able to read what he says. Helped a TON!!!
Not trying to bust chops here, but just for information: 1 - It's against NEC to drill extra holes into receptacle box. You need to run the cable through the existing tab holes. 2 - Romex connectors are needed needed at both boxes (If you used the tab on the blue box you wouldn't need the connector). 3 - Need to caulk around outside box to prevent water penetration through wall. 4 - Cut off excess sheathing before pushing the wire back into the boxes. 5 - The outside box needs to be grounded also. that's what the green screw in it is for. You need to secure the ground wire to it and then to the receptacle.
All the "professionals" commenting on how he's not up to code have done sketchier work than this I guarantee you. Guess what..it works, it's safe and good for him. He could have paid a "professional" that would have done the exact same thing or worse I'm glad he didn't waste the money.
Great job and crazy how every video I watch on diy jobs ….always has to have a negative comment by someone that for some reason is watching diy vids instead of making a diy or yawing the time to go to work installing …..I see no problem here you have a ground fault on the circuit with a sealed exterior box …..glad I found this vid so I can try to do as well ….just got you tube certified on another project lol
@@shawnmr1973 I’ve had that issues with plumbers at Lowes when buying “shark bites”. They would say how bad they are and always leak but turn away when I tell them how much I’ve used them and none leaked.
The negative comments are because the job is not to code. As I've said before, all it takes is a little research to do the job right. There are at least two things he did that could cause a dangerous condition: 1- Not grounding the outside box, and 2- Drilling blindly from the outside into the inside box (through a hole that he shouldn't have drilled into the inside box) . He could have damaged one of the wires and not noticed it.
Thank you sir for taking the time to make this video. It was very informative. This is exactly what I was looking for as my next DIY project is to install three of these around the exterior of my house. This will save me some $$$. Thanks again.
I just installed one today but I didn’t have to drill through the brick this time, next week I will do another one for back side and looking at your video it should be walk in a park.Thank you .
Personally i would have stuck the duck seal into the hole in the wall where the wire came from the house for sure to keep any bugs from finding their way into the house.
Well shoot, I think I can do that! I’ll likely be trying it this weekend. I will need to get some of those long drill bits though. Thanks for the confidence
Thks for the video. I'm installing an extra outdoor PowerPoint from an existing outdoor power point so should be pretty straight forward. Will take on advise of using existing mounting holes and sealing around body.
very neat and professional job. Thanks for the video. going to install one today but I believe I'm going to seal around the outside box also. Thanks again.
1/4-1/2 of the sheath should be in the box, you've got a bit much there. also probably should have used caulking/plumbers putty around the hole penetration to help prevent water ingress through hole. otherwise good work!
Today I installed my second box in the back of the house, after I drilled my hole I looked from the other end and it was a perfect aim right into mortar between the bricks what are the odds! Overall everything worked out well.I sealed my box all the way around to weather proof it.
good stuff...suggestion...become an amazon affiliate and create links to everything you used and put them in description. You can't get paid for adds on your channel but you can get paid if someone uses a link. Adding outlet for irrigation controller.
and as you are drilling from outside to the inside - is there anyone on the inside of the closet ? making sure the wires are not cut or stripped by the large drill bit?
Thanks for the great video. I am an experienced DIYer soup to nuts but I am very cautious when it comes to electricity. I think that before I'll try this I will get a bid from an electrician.
I'm not an electrician, but do you need another GFCI outside if you are coming from a GFCI inside? My understanding is everything downstream of the indoor GFCI would be covered by that GFCI outlet. Clear as mud?
Very informative bro! Always enjoy learning something from your channel. From a fellow content creator to another my only critique would be editing out some of the parts or speeding them up where your drilling. Just my two cents. Otherwise keep it up!
I wanna do the same thing but my outlet is inside living room. Wanna use it to install gfc outlet on other side of wall to the outside where side yard is. Do I just piggy tail from my inside regular outlet to give power to outside outlet and do I just mount it like u did, I have stucco on the outside??
When we install any outside box we always use SE connectors on the back. That way you have a water tight connection for the romex. We also caulk the the box top and both sides leaving the bottom open for any drainage the may happen.
WARNING Just to clarify, if you engage the GFI at that location, you still have power from one of the wire unless you turn it off at the panel, also in this video this guy is not sealing with silicone every plug on the gang boxed defiantly seal the top and side of the box in the back wall
Not at all professional. Very amateur and against code. Look up some *_real_* professional electrician videos to see how to do it the right way. It doesn't take much more time and money to do it correctly.
I found your video very helpful. Thank yoou! I stopped at Home Depot to pick up supplies. Master Electrician told be I couldn't connect two GFCI outlets right next to each other like you did. Is he right, or what was the exception?
@@1SpudNuts1BigNasty-DIY i have one doubt, how were you able to exactly find the mortar and not the brick from the inside to the outside . would it be easy to find it using the flash light ? Thanks !
had me worried there for a second - just as you were going to test the outlets, you could hear the fire engines in the background???? Hope they weren't coming to you!
You’ll need to wire off of a receptacle since the recept is always hot. You’ll need to have the light switch in the On position if you’ll want to have the new recept to work.
Sounds like he knows what he's doing. Problem is, *_He doesn't know how to do it correctly_* . There are better and more accurate videos on TH-cam. Don't follow this guy's instructions.

I also agree. .. carried a master's license for long time I don't think you're going to give you a good Apprentice
That comment sounds like it came from a real electrician. The attempt was ok, but not professionally done, nice try though.
Romex is not permitted in many outdoor applications in most Northern US municipalities, must always use armored cable whether solid or flex conduit

Maybe they are union workers and only work 1/2 the year or there wire holder labor called off so couldn’t work today
Thanks, appreciate the positive words.

Yeah, I have replaced the seal.

very neat and professional job. Thanks for the video. going to install one today but I believe I'm going to seal around the outside box also. Thanks again.
No it isn't at all professional. it is poorly done by a amatuer who has no idea about codes or proper installation methods.

Hot, neutral and ground. Neutral is not a common

Actually not done according to code. A little research would be all that was needed. It wouldn't take much more effort or cost to do it right.
I'm not an electrician, but do you need another GFCI outside if you are coming from a GFCI inside? My understanding is everything downstream of the indoor GFCI would be covered by that GFCI outlet. Clear as mud?
maybe he wanted the outside gfci to trip seperately from the indoor closet outlet
Helpful but seeing what the receptacle wiring looked like would have been helpful, I. E. The ground
Nice to see real life struggle with a project instead of totally sanitized edited video.
I know what I’m doing this weekend, thanks!
Good video and good explanation. Only critique is could have used a bit of editing to shorten some parts but overall one of the best tutorials.
he did waste time

Long as you’re safe and know what you’re doing. I’m not sure about stucco though.

Yes, I did caulk around the box.
Great job
Instead of using the mounting tabs why not install mounting screws inside the box to wall?
GOOD UOB I AM GOING TO DO THIS OLD HOME I HAVE LIKE THAT THANKS

Engaging the GFI only kills power to anything plugged into that outlet and beyond. There's still power going to that outlet from the source.
Just an FYI this is usually around 400 bucks for a electrician to do it.
Can the outlet you put outside just be a regular weather resistant outlet since you put a GFCI on the inside?
I’m pretty sure all outdoor outlets have to be GFCI. You can put whatever you want but it wouldn’t be safe or in accordance with code.
I'm pretty sure it's fine to do that as long as it's fed from the Load of the GFCI inside.
Is it supposed to be crooked?
Thanks for the video. Very professional and informative

Thanks for the video! 👍

Doesn’t really matter, whichever GFCI trips, it will cut anything down the circuit. Glad it helped.
Great video, could you please tell us what drill are you using ? Thanks
Just a concrete bit to go through the brick.
@@1SpudNuts1BigNasty-DIY i have one doubt, how were you able to exactly find the mortar and not the brick from the inside to the outside . would it be easy to find it using the flash light ? Thanks !
@@arjun-bali That was just luck to find the mortar but it really doesn’t matter if you go through brick or a mortar joint.
Don’t waste money on another gfci. Gfci outlets protect downstream normal outlets. WR rated ofc

😂😂👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Just like a master electrician, nice job Big Nasty
Great Video thank you.
If it’s not already gfi
If I put gfi outside
Will it be gtg?
Should be for that one outside outlet.
Hi. Could I use a bathroom light fixture to do This ? The height of the fixture is the perfect place where I want to add the outlet on the outside Thx
You’ll need to wire off of a receptacle since the recept is always hot. You’ll need to have the light switch in the On position if you’ll want to have the new recept to work.
I need 20 amp for pool and bedrooms on 15 amp breaker??
Not a good idea, I wouldn’t recommend it.
How come you mounted it horizontally?
Or he should have bought a horizontal box/receptacle
Can’t really see how/what wire goes where?
It’s clearly in the video.
You can use both outlets?
Lucky to hit the mortar and Not the brick 😳😳😳
Nice job!
Thank you, you made look so easy
"I'm not the best stripper." That's your comedy section, folks. Thanks for the video!
It says duck seal is NOT intended for outside use .. use a caulk for sealing instead other than that great video
Can barely hear this.
You can't run Romex through brick it was to be protected
You need a clamp on that box. Someone needs to school this guy! 🤷♂️
Can the clamp go inside the box ( if I have room ) ?
That was some janky work. I hope you didn’t charge for that.
Raaaw
That's why we have inspection rules so that other people don't buy the house and find out what you did
Great video, I would have like to seen you wearing ear protection
