Nice, Andrew. I went to my local record store (in Inverness) last Monday to buy the CD and, to my pleasant surprise, the sales dude (who is literally named after Paul because Macca was mum's favourite Beatle) told me that the album had sold out on the day the shop received it. We had a nice chat about Beatley stuff and he took my phone number so that he can call me as soon as they get in a new delivery.
I've been listening to this all weekend and it is easily my favorite Wings release ever!! It's pure brilliance, song wise. The sound quality is excellent! Sounds like you're in the room with them. Incredible how tight they were at this time. McCartney is in fine form here!
I didn’t care too much about Wings in their day mainly because I was in mourning over the breakup of the Beatles. But I have a newfound respect for the band. My greatest respect goes to Paul McCartney, who could pull it off successfully with two groups, despite that Wings changed their lineup a few times.
Just received the vinyl and CD versions of this album a few days ago and it sounds great and the band is in great form. It is nice to have these songs in better quality (even better than some of the archive versions) Thanks for your review Andrew!
Fantastic video! This new Wings album takes me back to being a kid in the 70s and almost every summer enjoying new, great songs from Paul McCartney and Wings. Even as a kid I would live in the moment and realized how special Paul and Wings really were! Thanks for this video my friend!👐❤
One Hand Clapping's always had this mysterious feel to it since we've only ever been drip-fed bits and pieces of it over the years, so it's nice to have a polished up official release now. I really like these performances, the more upbeat tracks in particular are incredibly energetic.
As someone originally from Southport and a fan of Paul, it was great to learn about the song Blackpool, which I've never heard before. What a pleasant surprise. Thanks, Andrew.
Listening to the album as I write these lines… Raw energy, strong presence of Linda, Paul’s voice booming through on Jet, Soily and the rest. It is a fresh discovery for me. Never had the chance to get my hands on bootlegs, which is probably for the best. The sound on Apple music is fantastic with Dolby Atmos. Will definitely get my hands on the vinyl. A great release!!!! It is on par with the best of Wings. My ears are happy. Thx Paul for this unexpected gift 💝
Absolutely amazing record! I had not listened to the bootlegs and I'm in love with it. Definitive TLAWR even if it's cut in the medley. Paul's voice is insane, what a genius.
Great, Andrew! I enjoyed the backstory of the album and how it came to be named. I have bought the CD version and I'm really impressed with both the selection of songs and the remix. A very worthy McCartney and Wings release!
Interesting story. Love King Crimson. Always liked Happy Family. And of course very glad of this wonderful new release appearing. Thanks a lot for another great review, Andrew
This is one vinyl venture. I’m holding out on buying. After years of listening to all these tracks on bootlegs, it was a treat listening to One Hand Clapping on streaming for the first time in such great quality! One thing I would’ve suggested if they could have included video on a DVD from the TV performance and of course backyard performance at Abbey Road. That would’ve been a real treat. As always, thanks for another informative video Andrew! Cheers!
Fine work, Andrew! An unboxing/history lesson/review, all rolled up into one! This release was a dream come true for me and it did not disappoint! I would easily rank this in my top 10. The mix is stellar (both stereo & particularly Dolby Atmos) and one of my last Macca "grails" was achieved with a version of Blue Moon Of Kentucky that is not sourced from a scratchy acetate. Minor "grail" achievement goes to Baby Face without the overdubbed narrative. Quick shout out goes to Geoff Britton. He may not have been a "clever" drummer like Joe English, but from a sheer power standpoint, he was a force of nature!
Yes on Geoff Britton. He brings punk attitude, energy and style and this iteration of Wings, you have to say, looks consequently as if it's from 1976. Paradoxically, by 76,on Wings Over America, sans Britton, they will look retro, very Zep 74 🤔🇺🇸
Always great watching an unboxing! I look forward to hearing the album. Like you, I would love for the set to include a DVD/BluRay with the video. - Roger
Thanks Andrew, on the basis of your great review I ordered the limited edition for the bargain price of 53 euro. I also have the dvd that came with the first reissue of band on the run. Will dig it out and watch later. 🤘
Nice finally have all of the One Hand Clapping officially released. A lot of it is hit or miss, but so it is brilliant. Great video John, and thanks for sharing.
Buena andrew !!!...muy buen video....lo acabo de escuchar en version archivos FLAC y tiene versiones muy agradable a pesar de ser canciones ya conocidas del repertorio de paul ...saludos desde PERU!
Enjoyed Andrew!! I think this is right up there - as far as Wings releases go. Vibrant, energetic & well performed!! Particularly impressed with "Soily".
Hi Andrew! Love your work. Maybe I’m amazed at the way Paul shows regained confidence and you can hear it in his singing, specially My love. My god! Best regards.
Fantastic review, Andrew! You even shared with all of us the very moment you opened your own copy! I have one wish in life : 🙏 I really hope that some day soon all the Hamburg tapes be cleaned with today’s magical technology, all copyright issues sorted and finally be made available as official Beatles material.
Thanks for another well researched video, with fascinating detail. This period was one of Paul's most creatively fertile. I haven't bought the One Hand Clapping yet. To me it's most interesting as the inspiration of what would result in the most exciting three record live album of the seventies, Wings Over America, and a culmination of Paul's effort to find artistic achievement rivaling the Beatles. My only disappointment was that Wings Over America couldn't have included songs from Ram or Wild Life (i.e. Back Seat of My Car, Uncle Albert Admiral Halsey, Tomorrow, Dear Friend). The biggest omission from Wings Over America was, of course, Let It Be. Interesting that Paul was rehearsing it but then cut it from the playlist for the tour. P. S. I wish Denny Laine could have seen this.
Hi Andrew I just finished listening to One Hand Clapping. I very much enjoyed listening to the album. These recordings in my opinion show Wings in great form. I wish a dvd/blu-ray would be released of the fim that was shot. That would be an awesome live document of Wings 1974. I also have a bootleg called The Nashville Sessions on cd which some of the tracks appear. Thanks for another great and entertaining video. Have a great day Andrew.
One hand clapping is by far my top 5 favorites Paul McCartney albums l listened to to the mp3 version first I didn’t want to open the sealed copy but now I’ll have too
Had to chuckle at the 'old school' unboxing here Andrew, as it reminded me of your first dozen videos that took 5 or 6 mins just to get through the cardboard and bubble wrap with the added aprehension of the use of a razor blade knife!...😎
Just received by CD copy and I really like the alternate versions, particularly Jet, Band On The Run, Live and Let Die, My Love, Juniors Farm and Hi Hi Hi. A time when McCartney's voice was at its peak.
The sound is great and the versions of the songs such as “Maybe I’m amaze” are given a fresh take. “Go now”, “Soily”, “1985” and “I’ll give you a ring” are my favorites from this.
I’m just glad this was released. I love it and have been listening to it many times since downloading. Geoff Briton’s time with Paul sure was short. He sounds good here.
Andrew, great stuff as always. Every Sunday, I know it’s a must-watch. If I can humbly offer a suggestion-the newsboys/scally caps tend to hide your eyes. Almost everything in your videos is lit perfectly, except your eyes. A small gripe, for sure. I’m definitely not going to stop watching because of it! 🇺🇸🇬🇧
Great review Andrew ! Like you, I feel it's a shame that the film footage of these recordings in Abbey Road in 1974 were not released ! Maybe one day soon, who knows ! Cheers from Montreal Canada !
Great video. I shall await the CD when the price reduces. I wasn't expecting the cover of Lizard by King Crimson to pop up. I know the line One Hand Clapping, but was unaware of it's relevance here. Looking online at the length of tracks, the Beatles songs are quite short in length. Thankfully, the other songs are reasonable in length. I don't usually buy Paul McCartney albums, but this one looks interesting.
I'm enjoying it. I wasn't too familiar with the project, other than what was on the Band on the Run Archive Edition. So I never heard any bootlegs before. The live-in-studio feel and oldies covers made me think of Get Back/Let It Be and that Paul was giving that concept another shot.
Great video, as usual! Just a comment: "Suicide" was officially released on the "McCartney" Archive Collection in 2011. However, it is not the "One Hand Clapping" version, but the one heard at the end of "Hot As Sun/Glasses".
Hi Andrew this is a project I knew basically in name only so lots to learn here for me. I think 4 years post Beatles off the back of Band On The Run he must have been full of confidence and as you say that seems to to come over. Certainly one I will be listening to before buying but thanks as always for the interesting upload. Cheers Tim
Nowadays there is far too much conversation and comment about Paul’s voice and the effect age has had. It would be far more sensible for us to all reflect on how good Paul’s voice was at its peak. At this time in his life he was an excellent vocalist and this LP shows that he was in total command of his performances and had the versatility which many top level singers wish they had. Listening to these performances it’s quite stunning how easy he makes it seem. It’s about time this was released and given the attention that it deserves. Very nice review as always! Great work.
Thank you, Andrew, for this video. Yes, the title does come from Lizard by King Crimson... (Now, there's a band to analyze...). Okay, I will look up this LP. Where does one find all the money to spend on all these LPS... They ARE SO expensive. Thank you for your courteous energy.
"the sound of one hand clapping" is a famous Zen koan, a type of riddle or paradoxical statement used in Zen Buddhism to provoke deep thought and challenge conventional thinking. This particular koan originates from the teachings of the Japanese Zen master Hakuin Ekaku. The purpose of such koans is to transcend logical reasoning and prompt a meditative state, encouraging practitioners to experience a direct insight into the nature of reality.
Must say I didn't have high expectations for a "live" in the studio Atmos mix, but I was very pleasantly surprised listening on my Sony WH-CH520 headphones. The McCartney albums released so far in Atmos have been excellent and I hope Ram is released that way soon.
I hadn't thought about him doing Blackpool at that Chaos And Creation At Abbey Road event. So he did it for the backyard tape, and at a promotional event for Chaos And Creation In The Backyard... Nice.
I'd say that EP makes that whole package worth buying...what a document! That said...I can't believe I never heard of this release until watching your video here! I "rushed out" and immediately bought the Apple Music version. I still use my Apple EarPods, but I believe I'll get a little more value if I switch to your AirPods Pro. I've yet to actually HEAR the Dolby Atmos sound present on some of my Apple Music selections. Mahalo...for springing yet ANOTHER pleasant surprise on me!
Band on the Run was the best post Beatles solo album by any of the four former Beatles. It may be one of Paul's only complete albums (the follow up Venus and Mars is the other), as most have one or two stand out tracks and less than stellar tracks (some are downright filler).
Hi Andrew, I agree with you, one of the best Wings albums, apart from the Beatles covers that I didn’t find particularly appealing. Great video,as usual 😊
Nice Job, Andrew. Geoff Britton gets the credit, I think, for propelling this performance. The others must play to his level of intensity. Really great.
Perfect timing Andrew! I think my personal favorite on this album is actually "Let's love" what a beautiful version of this song and at the same time so brief. I have the band on the run from the archive collection and I'm gonna be making time to watch the DVD one of these days. After your video now I'm considering buying the vinyl version but we'll see, I don't wanna break the bank with Paul's new tour just around the corner. Happy Saturday all!
I've only ever had King Crimson's first album, so I didn't know about the song on Lizard. I always assumed McCartney had just taken the title from the one Zen koan that everybody knows.
Just tried to get the vinyl edition with the 7”single and it’s sold out 🥹I wonder if it’ll be available again? Does anyone know if it will be available again in the UK? Great video as usual Andrew 😎👍
Finally a release thats worth listening to!!! I love it...sure..crappy low effort art work.,but the music is great..and I have listened over and over...as far as the Mind Games release, I have long since had that LP..CD.ect...and unless John has come back to life and recorded new versions..I will stick with what HE released . the remixed releases to my ears are always over done and I prefer the original...Sgt Pepper, Band on the Run, Red Rose Speedway..bought all three remixes...preferred originals....Love your review Andrew!.you nailed it...One Hand Clapping is great and a must have,
a Friend went to see Paul in Dublin and he asked the audience if they wanted to hear one hand clapping? They did at which point he pointed to the drummer Mr Laboriel who immediately started clapping his right hand together which was as loud as many people's clapping 2!
What's up with this documentary film, is it lost? The thing is on TH-cam but looks like the sessions were filmed on tape, transferred to film then the film was bootlegged to video. The official video for Soily has a very poor image probably being sourced from the bootleg itself.
I took a little time to warm to this album, especially side one. But I now really love it. Sadly, my vinyl copy is very noisy especially between track. I think that this will be rectified when I put the discs through an antistatic liquid bath. It really is timevthat vinyl manufacturers attended to their quality control.
Great review Andrew I think the album is a mixed bag. Don’t think much of the short tracks and the abbreviated tracks. But has is moments Jet, Soily Hi Hi hi
It is amazing how Denny was so naive then about the biz he was in. It wasn't long after those comments when Patrick Moraz sued The Moody's for breach of contract. Oh, the irony! Paul was right....again. I've seen video of the farm and the people and it all seemed so tranquil there. It is out in the boonies, fer sure. Not much to do but lays about.
I think the triple live album “Wings Over America” is Paul’s best album. Great songs that sound better live, such as Maybe I’m Amazed and Let Me Roll It. Change my mind.
@@charlesbronson4282 Agreed, although I wouldn't say by far. I still need to give London Town and Back to the Egg a listen, but my Wings album rankings are (including Paul's first two solo albums): Ram Band on the Run Wings Over America Venus and Mars McCartney Wild Life Wings at the Speed of Sound Red Rose Speedway It's incredible that was his output 1970-1976. Paul McCartney is a force of nature.
Just received the album. LOVE IT. The raw energy fills the room. If I have one compliant still waiting for Suicide. Thanks Paul.
At this stage, paul probably will probably choose to live out his natural life rather than kill himself.😊
@@englishdogs I don’t know if you were being sarcastic or not but I believe the op was talking about Paul’s Sinatra style song suicide :)
It was released on one of the archive albums
@@mikemcconville2495 Which one of the Archive albums has Suicide? Not doubting it, just want to check my collection for it.

Thanks! Hope you manage to find a copy with the 7".
I got the Japan SHM CD of this album. I had it last friday what is very quick from Japan
Hi, Andrew! I am stil waiting or my parcel to arrive. Till next time, Nelio.
Great review Andrew
I think the album is a mixed bag.
Nice work!
Thank you, Sir.
Paul's voice sounds great back in the 70's.
The version of “ Jet” is incredible!
If you don't mind my asking, how and where did you make your 70's style titles?
I think the triple live album “Wings Over America” is Paul’s best album. Great songs that sound better live, such as Maybe I’m Amazed and Let Me Roll It. Change my mind.
Completely agree. Great band and the set covers the majority of the best of the post Beatles songs, along with a few Beatles treats.
Nah....
Ram is his best BY FAR ..
@@charlesbronson4282Ram is my favourite studio album but Band On The Run is very close.
@@charlesbronson4282 Agreed, although I wouldn't say by far. I still need to give London Town and Back to the Egg a listen, but my Wings album rankings are (including Paul's first two solo albums):
Ram
Band on the Run
Wings Over America
Venus and Mars
McCartney
Wild Life
Wings at the Speed of Sound
Red Rose Speedway
It's incredible that was his output 1970-1976. Paul McCartney is a force of nature.
