When selecting any gear, (left hand), pull on blade lift lever with right hand, (the trans will stop spinning); the gears will not chip / break or do other bad things...! DO NOT GRIND GEARS -- THEY ARE FRAGILE...!
You are doing a good job...! An operating manual off internet would be good investment...
What serial number?, (1UXXXX or 14AXXXX..?) Look under final drive housing for serial number if plate is missing, (six-o-clock position)...
    Your other commenters are spot-on...!

That white stuff in the fuel system was what happened when water got into leaded fuel. It's not seen much today so i'd guess that the dozer has sat longer than 20 years,a lot longer.

Whenever it goes to grinding like that when you're trying to get it to go into gear if you pick up on the blade at the same time it should stop your transmission then it's track spray to go into gear

It looks like you need to A. check fluid level. B. adjust clutch packs on the sterring brakes. C. Grease the water pump bearing & seal. D. Grease the heck out of it before you move it! Primarily the lower track rollers (Bite the bullet & buy the fitting for this & a second grease gun if you can for this) & track tensioner. (If I hear one comes off, I will say, "Hey dumb ass, I told you so & you can both hurt yourself & spend days grtting it back on)
If your pony engine is in need of a redo & you need to run/use it, you can easily add the appropriate later model electric starter. No, It will not preheat the engine coolant & mass of cast iron for nice warm starts. I drilled a tapped the intake manifold to install a big coil heater, same as used on "Banks Power Ram" manifold for Dodge Cummins. Used a heavy relay & a high-quality old school start button in addition to the one for the electric starter. If you park it near power, you can easily add an engine block heater by swapping out a freeze plug. It's well worth the effort. Or use " liquid electricity" ether starting fluid in emergency. DO NOT USE BOTH TOGETHER! KABLAMO!! (You just used all 9 lives of your kitty's engine) if you must then a squirt of fluid, in air cleaner, crank 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 stop. Now push & hold glow plug button to count of 15-20, then while still holding glow plug button on, crank with the other 15-20 seconds &; engine will fire right up at 10° everytime if diesel fuel not gelled. If it doesn't, wait 2 minutes or more to cool and repeat.
She sounds great, when is part 2?

I always bring an in line spark tester with me when I’m starting my pony engines. It saves a lot of cranking for nothing! ⚡️Also the clutch has a break. When you push forward on the clutch lever it engages a break so you can change gears without grinding.

If the pony motor will not run without choking it the low speed jet and or passage is blocked in some way.

❤❤❤❤Fantastic vid it runs like a bought one😂😂😂 we used to have a couple of these back in the 80s one we modified into hydraulic steer clutch operation was less of an effort to steer they worked like the later model pull out on a console did 1000s of hrs clearing timber with it. Once you sort the pony out they are really reliable trick is cut the gas of after start of main engine👍👍👍👍👍I SHALL SUBSCRIBE ❤❤❤ Also trick keep trottle closed spin pony in no compression then once turning over go to half compression till you get oil pressure up once oil switch to full compression and open trottle and away it goes the winch issue will be the brake band possible just needs some run time. Also the backend oil dipstick in front of the seat pay to check it.
