If you said the nail was for concrete then you are technically right but that's not the answer I'm looking for.
concrete Form nail- double headed so bottom head sets, top head is to make it easy to pull the form apart to use again.

I used to frame houses back in the day, and I also did some commercial construction. On both jobs types, we used those nails to pull our initial string lines off of our corner batter boards to layout the foundation.

My dad was using some of those duplex nails for forms. He brought one home in his pocket and mom found it doing laundry. She asked him what kind of nail it was and he told her it was a special nail for hanging pictures, lol. 🥸👍🔨💥
Back in around 1973, my Dad and his Dad (My Granddaddy) tore down Granddaddy's old detached wood two car garage. They stripped the shingles off the roof, then carefully and methodically disassembled that garage. Every nail was extracted and saved from every board, every board saved, everything reusable. Dad hauled everything to our new house where we lived, and we unloaded everything in our far back yard, Dad and I hand mixed and poured a concrete foundation. Dad drew up his plans and the new backyard storage garage/shed was built. I kid you not... Dad made me take every nail he saved and straighten them... and there was several coffee cans full of them. Dad could have bought nails, but he taught me the value in saving and reusing building materials. I swear I straightened 5283 nails, give or take! Big ones, smaller ones... and yes I had to separate them by size. I still do this today, some almost 50 years later. Nowadays it makes even more sense.
Every board, nail, a couple of windows, doors, were saved and reused. Whatever leftover was saved and used for inside shelving, etc.. Dad taught me a lot, and I paid attention. I hated the work at times, but will always cherish the education, and discipline...even though we worked hard, out in the hot Texas heat, many days. Mom made sure we had plenty of fresh iced tea to drink, and a good hot meal afterwards. This project was the last major project I was involved in before I moved out and began life on my own, after I graduated High School.
I've built many things by hand, myself since, and still do... and yeah, even though he's gone on now, I sometimes "talk" to Dad about my projects, along the way...

You did an amazing job! Never seen someone attempt that by alone (Practically). I'm 61 and in my best days I don't think I could have done that teardown. Enjoy your new shop!

duplex nails, the second head makes them easy to remove and they're reusable. commonly used on concrete form boards or other temporary assembled projects.
also good for setting string lines, holding things with zip-ties and many other things.

Facts. We use those to do the wooden forms for ground foundations
We use them for porcelain fence insulators. You use a leather or rubber washer on the nail so it can be snug but not break the insulator. The second head makes them easier to remove!

Double headed nails are for temporary structures 🔨 ( they're meant to be easily removed ) and we had a biting horse named Bad Medicine 🐴 ( he'd bite cars and trucks - so bad that the vehicles needed body shop repairs ) 🤣😂😇❤️

Sir, look at the footings that “RR BUILDINGS” uses on their pole buildings. Maybe concrete footings may be needed. Great job in dis-assembly of that shed.
Never allow concrete to be against wood the acid will cause it to rot faster. wrap with tar paper or sheet metal to prevent direct contact.

On the nail that is called a Duplex nail made for concrete forms you drive it to the first head leaving the second head sticking out so it makes it easier to pull out when you reck the forms. On another note try tuning the ladder around on the next job. Great video thanks.
yeah, flip the ladder around, using it backwards will bite you hard one of the times.

When you re assemble the barn get one section of scaffolding it a big help I hate ladders

that is a what we called string nail to be used in concrete. you tie the string on the top between the two flats
Horses will chew on boards because they are bored. What we used to do to keep them from doing it, is mix ground cayenne pepper with Vaseline, and spread it on the top rails they seemed to attack the most. Guaranteed to stop them within a day. :)
When I had my farm, I had a 30' x 60' workshop. Steel construction. Insulated. Plumbed. Large custom woodstove to heat it. Lord how i miss that farm and that workshop. Also had a 26' x 106' barn for the sheep as well. Never should have let my ex talk me into moving from there. We paid C$157K for the place in 1995--with 37 acres of land. Now? Probably $1M. If only one could have a "do over" on life...

Those nails used to be used for attaching porcelain insulators to fence posts for electric fences. They used a plastic washer between the nail and the insulator to keep from breaking the porcelain.

Duplex nails good for pulling after using them on cement forms
It's a masonary nail for building forms so you can drive your forms uptight and still have a head to pull them back out
Wow l did not know that you done all that the tear down was a whole lot of work but one thing about it you have a real nice shop at your house now
I did some nail pulling for three full days! I wrapped a nylon scarf around dominate wrist and powered on!
Lots of horses will chew wood when they are kept in a stall for any length of time. It's a nervous habit they develop due to confinement.
It's called "cribbing".

There is a place near us Buzzard Roost Rd. Buzzards have roosted on the ridge there for as long as I have known about it. Village of buzzards. No houses on the ridge, it is a little spooky. My dad built houses, I’m telling you if you laid a board down with a nail in it. He would tear you a new one. If you ever stepped on a nail you know why.

Nice building! The double headed nail is, was used back in the day for temporary nailing. The exposed, upper part was easily grabbed by a claw hammer for removal! The lower nail head was sunk into the lumber as a regular nail would be! Ron PTL USA

I call that a scaffold nail, holds good but easily pulled.
That's what I call them, 25 years in the construction industry as a Boilermaker I see them all the time.
6 minutes in.. man I'm sad I was sure praying you had saved up somehow and ended up purchasing that lovely piece of land there, when you pulled up and it was the end of the street, boy there isn't much better of a spot to be.. Oh well, I'm gonna watch the rest here I'll probably edit this if I see something else that makes me want to say something, as I always do on your videos.. Thanks for putting these up for us to see!
I hope you saved those stairs. You'll need a way to get up to your loft. Be grateful that you're still young enough to do something like this. I'm 75 and I'd be DEAD by time I got less than half way. I do though love to pull nails.
When I was 11 or 12, I would hang around house construction sites and collect bent nails and scrap wood. Never had to buy anything (never had $$$$). In those days, everything was nailed by hand and nobody had electric saws.

Nails are for form use.. so easy to take apart after concrete pour and cure..as well as some other good uses.

pick up a cheap rolling bar magnet, as long as the nails are regular iron it will pick them all up easily. if aluminum or high grade stainless your mostly boned.

It could be the missing rung is because the ladder is made to be climbed the other way around. Confirm it by looking at the angle on the rungs. They don't make structural sense that-away. Expensive like fire department ladders are built the other way around. The moving section goes on the inside. Form stake and form nails.
It didn't have a rope to pull it up so I had it turned around backwards to be able to move it up and down easier.

Hummm, for some unknown reason, this project reminded me of a job that I was a crew member of. We were all in our teens and invincible. We took apart a large warehouse of DC Generators. Used open end wrenches that stood from the floor up to your chest. Horizontal shafts and the generators sat in pits and spun horizontally. I still have a few of the original bolts that were taken out of those machines. Those generators used to power the downtown buses. The kind that ran on overhead wires .
It's a tacking nail. Used when you need to temporarily attach something together. Second heads for easy removal
All of this work will be good for “The Waistline “!
My dad just told me that those “double headed” nails were originally created for scaffolding and were then adapted for use in anything that would have to be disassembled! He used them for fastening electric fence insulators around the cow pasture when I was a kid!
That last part is the answer I was looking for! 👍
