While focus stacking a beautiful cave image in the Valley Of Fire, I have trouble with my cameraman Greg Snell. Not only does he refuse to film my b-roll but he accuses me of being demanding - ME? The nerve!
Things go from bad to worse when his hero 'Uncle Grumpy' shows up to once again steal my comp. In spite of their treachery, I still manage to bag two gorgeous shots while talking you through my process of focus stacking.
Like a true professional, I even manage to scope out tomorrows sunrise shot while partially asphyxiated by the football and chips I ate for lunch.
I challenge any professional landscape photographer with a belly as large as mine to perform better in such cramped conditions or dash around like a 'pudgy mountain goat' with as much vigour.

Another classic from the Gavmaster & supporting cast 🤪. That second shot of the cave is amazing and highlights the ‘scale’ issue - you wouldn’t believe it’s so small. It could very easily be one of those huge caves that you could walk through.
Maybe my favorite of yours yet- and i have seen them all! Coincidentally going to VOF in a few days. Thanks and a shout out to Greg for a job well done.

I spent the night camping in Valley of Fire, the scorpions come out at night! Nice flip flops to have for taking a piss in he middle of the night with ;-)

Another great vid - have seen this cave a few times now with you or Adam and each time I just want you to stick some strobes in there at night and shoot it from outside.

This is my first comment after watching multiple vlogs or yours... this video was absolutely hilarious and informative too. But, the best part, is to see another fat man that can hike up those hills like what was it Greg said "A Pudgy Mountain Goat"?! I'm a little older even than you and fatter so I was impressed. I did have to stop this video half way through though, I got a notification that a new vlog from Adam Gibbs and watched that first, but I did come right back to finish this one... well, I had lunch first but... keep up the good work.
Just a stunning display of coordination and dexterity navigating that landscape near sunset, especially once you had to hustle... you clearly channeled your inner mountain lion. So nimble and graceful, as you... bounced, from one rock plateau to another... amazing. Intimidating even! Gotta get me some of that amazing and environmentally appropriate footwear. Really makes the difference 🤣

Really enjoyed this video! Love the detail you pulled out of the cave and the specifics of the exposures taken to achieve it. Having trouble wrapping my head around simultaneously doing focus stacking and exposure blending... any hints about that?
it all gets put together in Photoshop pretty easily.

Gavin, great shots, since there isn't a sense of scale it's impossible to tell that those aren't 100 foot tall caves, really impressive.

Another great video Gavin, as a fellow Yorkshireman I love your humour and it helps your videos be even more entertaining than with just the photography alone. Your photos though never suffer from your antics, they are always excellent and you go to great lengths to explain what your trying to capture, I for one appreciate that.
What I want to know is when are you going to appear on Amazon prime video? A strange question you may think, but no not really, I watch another you tuber, completely unrelated to photography, Cruising the cut he’s called and he does Narrowboat videos from the uk, he does the filming himself like you mostly do, but he now as a series on Amazon, basically they’ve just taken is early you tube videos and put em on the streaming service. You’d be ideal, humour, great scenic locations and expert tuition with great photos to finish with, a marriage made in heaven 😁😁

Oh this is funny, I'm going to be there in May! My daughter has a cheer competition in Vegas, My parents are bird watchers (who are coming with me) and they wanted to go here to look and said there should be some great photo ops. I'm going to try to find a night shot of the milkyway along with some sunset photos.

I'm surprised somebody hasn't taken the time drive out there admire the small arches and beak them like they do in Utah.
Loved the first image in the cave. Looking at it you can see an Indian staring out of the door.
The second cave angle reminds me of a conch shell.
