From a Filipino: - whenever I hear Malaysians and Indonesians speak as if I recognize their languages and yet I do not understand except for loose words because we share a handful of loose words but Filipino is more complexed in terms of grammar. I love hearing Bahasa. Filipinos, Malays, and Indonesians are cousins. - Thais, for me has the most colorful culture among all SEAsians because they are spared from colonization. Love everything Thai. They speak as if they chirp. - Lao, my mother spent her childhood in Vientiane she often confuse Laos and Cambodia. - Singaporeans are a bunch of mixed ethnicities. Progressive. Lah. - Vietnamese, Filipinos treat Vietnamese as great friends and plenty of Viets upon learning you are from the Philippines would offer you Pho and coffee and will talk. Somehow our peoples have affinity with each other. - Myanmar, not much knowledge about the Burmese people except the infos I am getting from the news. - Bruneians, so much respect for their Sultan. By the way, a little piece of history to share: Manila was once a satellite post of the Brunei Kingdom before colonization sets in, and some affluent Filipino families of today's generation are descendants from Sultan Bolkiah's ancestors. Timor Leste - yes, East Timorese! Very interesting people who spoke Portuguese and Indonesian! Alright, that's about it.
I'm indonesian and it works both ways. I hear a lot filipinos talk each other in my office, and it kind of makes my brain itchy. Sounds familiar yet I don't understand even a single word.
Cool! I'm Malaysian, when I hear tagalog, I get the impression that it's bahasa mixed with Spanish - I enjoy listening to it but if I start paying attention, I'd get irritated because it's as if I could understand but I don't lol

@@cerulean1602 well yeah, but still. It's practically a common trait to cringe at poor grammar or pronunciation. You can't really blame them if that's the case. Some Filipino words have different meanings if you pronounce them differently or use the wrong grammar and that translates to the English language. Even if English isn't as grammar or pronunciation sensitive as Filipino, that's still not really paid much attention to.
@@cerulean1602 it's like how a lot of people don't like Indian accents and nobody really faults them for it since a lot of people agree on it. As a Malaysian 🇲🇾, what I think about others SE Asian country is: 1. Indonesia: Beautiful beaches and mountain (plan to visit Indonesia soon 🤤), could understand each other and easy to communicate, very friendly, even rival in social media but real life we're very close, good singer and good Malay/Indo song (I love their song much ❤️) 2. Singapore: Cleanest country and their citizen are very discipline (I've been there last 2 year), smoke at certain area, new car every several years (i dont remember), English is the main language but they also can speak Malay (using bahasa baku) 3. Brunei: No moped bike (cause i've been there before), just car & big bike (superbike etc), royal country, rich King in the world, using Malay language 4. Thailand: Best food and nightlife, Songkran Water Festival, Krabi Bike Week, good at Sepak Takraw, Muay Thai the famous martial art in the world, mostly Malaysian love to go to Thailand because we're neighbour and easy to reach by car or bike (and I've been to Betong and Krabi last year) 5. Phillipines: Good at English, have many talented singer and International singer, good country with English after Singapore, also got beautiful island & beaches 😍 (I want to go to Boracay and Cebu) 6. Myanmar: Not much I know but they before Myanmar is known as Burma, and got so much player playing PUBG lately (thats what i know) 🤣 7. Vietnam: Very strong country can kick out American ass from their land, good in football (number 1 rank in SE Asia), and they always rival with Thai maybe in social media maybe just like Malaysia and Indonesian? 8. Cambodia: The famous one is Angkor Wat 9. Laos: A country with 5 border of different country (Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, China) 10. Timor Leste: New country in SE Asia. Very close to Australia and not listed as Ocenia country like their neighbour, Papua New Guinea
7:40 look how cautious they were singing the Philippines' National Anthem, knowing they will get into to trouble if they mess even single word or tone 😂
As for myself, as an Indonesian myself: Philippines: AMAZING SINGERS, beauty pageants, the only Catholic majority country in SEA, some words in their language is surprisingly similar to Indonesian. Vietnam: pho, banh mi, spring rolls (amazing food); more advanced than you think (because of Vietnam War legacy?), connected to China by trains hence a lot of people go to study there. Thailand: dancing like there's no tomorrow, the land of sour & spicy foods, ladyboys, beautiful temples, probably the most polite among SEA people. Laos: was once a part of Thailand, divided by colonialism, and has a long enmity against one another, I don't know anything about their way of living though. :( Cambodia: beautiful looking written language, is opening up to the world, beautiful temples, Angkor Wat, hot air balloons festival, still have a large swatches of rainforest. Indonesia: BALI, INDOMIE, Borobudur, Prambanan, hospitable people, cultural hub, diversity in languages/ethnicity/culinary/cultures/religions, the biggest archipelago country in the world. Malaysia: Indonesia's closest and also somewhat not-always-in-good-terms neighbor, shares Borneo together with Indonesia and Brunei, nasi lemak, culturally diverse like Indonesia. Singapore: you feel safe walking alone at 3 AM, no gum candy allowed, you can get from one end to another in 2-3 hours (?), law abiding citizens, Las Vegas of SEA.
What do you mean Phil language is similar to yours?? Stupid! You haven't learned your lesson aren't you? Indonesia language is extremely more related to Malaysian

The people, culture, food and everything. I’m glad I have visited these countries. Long live fellow Southeast Asians.
As filipino, my thoughts to our ASEAN brothers: Indonesia - probably the closest relative or cousins, related language, physical features, and geography Malaysia - cleaner version of Manila, what could have been if we are colonized by the Brits Thailand - great food, like indonesia physical feature almost the same with us Filipinos. Bangkok is like Manila but better infra. Vietnam - the king of underdogs (check their history), admired their resiliency and toughness, probably the best and cheapest street foods. Back packers paradise :-) Laos - the only landlocked nation in SEA. 1 of the only 5 communist countries in the world. Cheap to travel also. Myanmar - formerly Burma, i read that they drive on the right side of the road but the cars are still in left hand drive. They have a new capital that is sparsely populated. Singapore - cleanest, safest, most modern city state. Model city and a global one. Cambodia - i think for a period their name was Kampuchea, of course Ankor Wat, sadly the place known for the killing fields and the khmer rouge

From a Filipino:
- whenever I hear Malaysians and Indonesians speak as if I recognize their languages and yet I do not understand except for loose words because we share a handful of loose words but Filipino is more complexed in terms of grammar.

Indonesia - probably the closest relative or cousins, related language, physical features, and geography

Thailand - great food, like indonesia physical feature almost the same with us Filipinos. Bangkok is like Manila but better infra.
Vietnam - the king of underdogs (check their history), admired their resiliency and toughness, probably the best and cheapest street foods. Back packers paradise :-)
Laos - the only landlocked nation in SEA.

Also, Indonesia, Malaysia and The Philippines are so closely a like sometimes it's almost impossible to tell us apart. Singapore, despite being in the middle of Malaysia and Indonesia, is almost either very Western influenced or Chinese influenced so we're like an adopted child.
Lol I’ve been to three of the ASEAN countries as a Korean American. 🇹🇭🇵🇭🇰🇭 They look really similar to each other, but I think Filipinos are more expressive with their hospitality than Cambodians and Thais in my opinion. They are all really friendly people though.
Honestly, all SEA are the same in terms of hospitality and expressive. You only encountered the ones that you are dealing with. I'm Khmer/Cambodian and very outgoing and expressive. However, no kissing ass. I speak the truth and don't give a fuck.😜
Angkorian Boy I am not saying all Khmers are quiet and shy about their hospitality. I am saying things based on my experience with interacting with the locals.
Yeah, Filipinos (at least girls) have the cutest personality. For various reasons, they are the best people for friendly chatting (at least compared to Thais, Vietnamese and somewhat compared to Indonesians as well).
Though these are simply my own personal experiences, ofc.
Philippines is Past-Western Colonials , they are good in english language and know america/europe cultures than us, they can speak with Westerners very easy.
@@Tpop-bm1qr Filipinos can speak with any other nationalities with ease and not just with westerners. Filipinos are outgoing people and like to chat with anyone. Filipinos have no bitter enemies so everyone is a friend.
I'm Viet 🇻🇳 so my view is.
Lao: Elephants
Cambodia: Khmer empire
Thai: Football rival
Malaysia: Cartoons
Singapore: that rich kid
Indonesia: Tropical muslim
Brunei: that other rich kid but with oil
Philippines: friend that hate a common bully

I'm Filipino living in Thailand for a decade, hardly see ladyboys, unless I'm in downtown Bangkok or Pattaya. 2:59 sounds Vietnamese not Thai. Bahasa Indonesia sounds like a Visayan dialect to me.
What I'm thinking about SEA countries ⬇⬇⬇
*Indonesia* : big country, many islands and languages, the people are friendly and speak fast. Such a potential country in the future because of big population and they're developing fast these days
*Singapore*: the only developed country in SEA countries and a country with many rules. Advanced in technology. A small country
*Thailand* : the language is unique, good in tourism. Thai drama well known in SEA countries.
*Philippines* : they're good in basketball. Sounds like Spanish a little bit and speak good English. Sometimes I found out that Filipino look Indonesian
*Malaysia* : many skyscrapers and developing so fast. Malay probably could understand Indonesian because the language is similar
*Vietnam* : the people are kind and generous (this is based on my experience)
*Cambodia* : they're polite
For texing I live in Canada my fiancé is in the Philippines, if I don’t answer her right away and I’m not at work, she asks who the girl I’m talking to!!!! Y am i not texting her back right away!!!
To add, Phil telcos has the most sms offered promos for unlimited texting in very cheap amount.
Hahaha
Filipino here. I'd love to visit all of the other SEA countries to try their food and meet the people. I've had Thai and Vietnamese food here in America but I'm sure it's better when I'm there.

Singapore: the lion statue
cambodia?
Laos: papaya salad + sticky rice
When I heard about Vietnam, I will remember 'Nguyen', that's I think all time😅

I feel like us southeast asian is a big family. Sometimes we have fights (as Malaysian half indonesian, I notice how Malaysia and Indonesia always fight often lol) and we all have delicious foods. Different cultures, some of us have similiar language! (Like Malaysia-Indonesia-Philipine) even tho I don't understand Tagalog. I like how each of us are improving one by one such as Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, etc:)

Filipino community is the 4th largest enthicity in the US, so other SEA people in the vid are very knowledgeable. Heck, Pinoys are everywhere in d US no wonder d Cambodian said he’s usually mistaken as Filipino.
Not real southeast Asian, they are Americanize southeast guests, they should ask southeast from that country, I think they have not gone to that country yet from this interview.
yeah i feel that these Americanized asians are all the same
The Thai guy, Vietnamese and and Indonesian still speak with strong accent so I don't think they originally from America or at least a first generation of immigrants. Malaysian and Filipino mostly can speak English better so they not necessarily America born or citizens.
The filipinos are real though. I'm filipino so I know haha
For me:
Indonesia - so many fangirls/fanboys, beautiful beaches
Philippines - Catholic version of indo
Vietnam - Nguyen, cute people
Malaysia - chinese x indian
Thailand - slim bodies
Singapore - high standards
Timor leste - asian european
I think Philippines should be the Mexico of Asia lol instead of catholic version of indo. They don’t really have much similarities when it comes to culture, traditions, behaviour and mannerisms.
The face, mannerism and behaviour is very similiar,
@@danielkudo4800 whose?
@@raphael3873 that’s my opinion but i can agree with that

Indonesia: Jakarta & Bali, The Red & White Flag, and Lyodra (the singer) (I followed her on IG)
Thailand: Thai drama, BL drama Bangkok and Nanno (from "Girl from Nowhere")
Malaysia: Twin towers, Upin & Ipin (Malaysian cartoon)
Vietnam: Ho chi Minh city & Hanoi, "See tinh" Tiktok trend and Pho
Singapore: The lion fountain, the way Singaporeans talk and ends with "lah".
Cambodia: Angkor Wat
Laos: Vientiane, The way they greet "Sabaidi"
Filipino beauty is really unpredictable coz some say we are pacific islander, mexicans, chinese, malays and indian..truely most filipino are mixed.
Add the white black and latinks.in the list.
Well it maybe because Philippines has been colonized by different countries in the past. And it has been a trading place during the early times especially during the galleon trade era.
@@mrarbc And even before that, with the Chinese and Hindus. And of course the Arab traders in Mindanao that spread Islam by crossing from Malaysia.
Majority of Filipinos look South East Asian. A lot of Filipinos marry fellow Filipino, thereby drowning out foreign blood (which in the first place, they don’t have a lot of because their ancestors did the same - marry fellow Filipinos). Remember, our colonizers did not WANT to marry us, what more procreate with us. They thought of us as below them. (Sure, there are exceptions to this and cases of r*pe, etc. but I’m sure you get my point...)
Even though Filipinos are predominantly south east asian they still seem a little different than the rest of south east asia. I could easily spot a filipino even from a mile away. I guess its due to the hundreds of years of mixing even to this day.
Also the kind of people you find in Malaysia, you find in Singapore as well. Historically, we used to be a country. What differs is our political views, that’s what caused the split anyway. Malaysian heree
I'm Filipino🇵🇭 and here's what I think of SEA:
🇵🇭Philippines: Hot people, Catholics, So many native languages I can't even
🇻🇳Vietnam: Hot people, Best Street Food
🇹🇭Thailand: Hot people, Hot food, Boy Love, I speak the language
🇲🇾Malaysia: Hot people, Mix Race
🇮🇩Indonesia: Hot people, Rich Bryan, I can sort of understand the language but not really
🇰🇭Cambodia: Hot people, Angkor Wat, Hinduism
🇲🇲Myanmar: Hot people, Cool city names, Indo-Tibetan Mix
🇸🇬Singapore: Hot people, Laksa, Clean af
🇧🇳Brunei: Hot people, Oil, Borneo
🇹🇱Timor Leste: Hot people, Portuguese, Literal south east
🇱🇦Laos: Hot people, I sorta understand the language but not really, Laos.
In Cambodia, most people religion are Buddhism, not Hindu xD

Of all the regions in the world, Southeast Asia is probably the most coziest region. We have lovely weather, lots of tourist destinations, friendly people, peaceful (maybe not as so in Burma), and yummy yummy foods. Safe to say, we check lots of boxes :D
This is cool to watch, really the countries that understand each other in SEA are Malaysia Singapore Brunei & Indonesia. Mainly because we speak Bahasa. Although there are some words in Indonesian that are different than Malaysian.
most of our vocabularies come from Arabic, Dutch, Portuguese, English. Good luck with that
I am a Thai person and this is how I feel with countries in SEA:
Myanmar: Always fighting with us in the past
Laos: Thai, but speak a different dialect
Cambodia: Angkor wat
Malaysia: Very nice and modern country
Vietnam: People eat pho
Singapore: Secretly became the richest.
Brunei: Rich Monarchy
Phillipines: Very good at English
Indonesia: Bali and Jakarta
What I think about some SEA (I'm Filipino)
Sinagpore: Rich
Cambodia: Temple
Myanmar: Temple no. 2
Indonesia: Malaysia's sibling
Malaysia: Indonesia's sibling
Vietnam: Nguyen
Thailand: Very very very good-looking people

As a Filipino, I love Vietnamese people since our elderly people taught us how Vietnam and Philippines are bestfriends since WWII. So we treat them as our closest bestfriend in Southeast Asia.
i’ve been around SEA and i felt very at home in Cambodia, super nice people! next to them are indonesians. i’m a great admirer of the Vietnamese, they’re very brave as a people. haven’t been to Laos though.
where are you from?
Please make more videos about SEA countries! I’m loving it😍
The thing about SEA people is that we don't really know much but really cool about each other.
And one thing about Indonesia is it's a very big nation with a lot of cultures, even with food we can't find anything to really labelled as Indonesian food (Maybe now it's nasi goreng or rendang) because we just have too many.
My personal thought as a Filipino.
Thailand - fingernail dance, spicy food, fried rice, romantic movies or series, temples etc.
Malaysia - Petronas Tower, Upin and Ipin, Sultans
Cambodia - temples, Khmer
Singapore - tall buildings, merlion, progressive
Indonesia - near the ecuator, probably hotter in climate, diverse
Vietnam - pho, hats, silk dresses, bicycle, maritime friends
Laos - landlocked, friends
Myanmar - temples
I think Thailand, Singapore, Philippines and Vietnam are the most popular countries in ASEAN
Upin Ipin LMAO 😂😂😂
