  • NT rapper, J-MILLA is Archie's next guest sharing the sixth episode of Kitchen Table Yarns - his twelve-part TH-cam series initiated to support emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander singer songwriters. Also winning the 2021 Archie Roach Foundation/ National Indigenous Music Award for Best New Talent, Archie has been keeping a close eye on J-MILLA for a while now, saying, “J-MILLA is an exciting rapper from the NT. I love his work. I reckon he’s one of the best rappers I’ve heard. In a way J is a lot like me, he raps about everything from the injustices facing First Nations people to love songs and songs about life in general.”
Equally enthusiastic is J-MILLA, saying, “Since I won this prize, I’ve had so many opportunities including being invited to perform at the ARF stage for emerging artists at Port Fairy Folk Festival in March. It’s been a blessing to know that Uncle Archie has my back and is excited for me and my career. He had nothing but kind words and motivation throughout the whole yarn and he inspired me to keep on keeping on. I can't wait to meet him face to face".
The online series will feature 12 emerging First Nations songwriters and musicians from around the country. Earlier episodes have featured Allara Briggs Pattison, Rulla Kelly Mansell and Marlon Motlop, Lydia Fairhall, Kee’ahn and Black Rock Band. Connecting through online video, Archie will continue to invite these exceptional young artists to yarn with him at his kitchentable to share stories about their songs, their communities, and their language.

Greetings from Scotland. I'm a big Archie fan for a long time. Good seeing you bringing up the generations to come here. This musta come up autoplayed through the algorithmic magic of the interweb after me finding a certain song this week.
All the best Archie, let us know if you're ever coming to Scotland soon.

Thank you so much for shining a light on this guy. Rap is not really my scene. I will definitely keep an eye out for J-MILLA 's work now though. Great yarn guys. Thank you.
