@@NewLayer I disagree, there's some comedic value in it. And it was done in good fun! But you took it to a dark, stern place. Now _nobody's_ having fun. Toss a Levels adjustment on your New Layer and bring the whites up a bit, you need to lighten up!
@@chrispysaid I disagree, my comment had some comedic value in it, and it was in good fun. You took it to a dark, serious place. Now you're not having fun.
That sounds odd, I've honestly never seen horizontal lines appear that I can remember :-/ If you shared a link to a short screencast I could take a look.
@@benjamincoombs8043 If you're sure the settings are the same, is your canvas the same resolution in pixels, and is your DPI 72? You can DM me on Insta @newlayercom with a link to download your PSD if you want and I can take a look.
Thanks, glad you liked it. You can always pause and rewind 5-10 seconds at a time with the left arrow on your keyboard, or set the video playback speed to .5X or .75X if you REALLY want to hear a monotone voice :)
@@NewLayer In fact, some things just can't be done by looking at the tutorial by others. Because they are hiding certain things. But your presentation can clearly learn something. Thanks again.
You should be able to just skip all the background steps. Just keep in mind that this effect won't look as good/realistic without some kind of stylized background.
I applied this method to a logo I'm designing which is not a text layer. It worked well but the bevel is rounding at sharp corners... do you have any idea on how to fix that so it doesn't curve? Please let me know
Try changing the Technique under Bevel & Emboss in the Layer Styles dialog to "Chisel Hard" or "Chisel Soft". It will change the entire look though, so may not be what you're after. You can tweak the Size and Softness settings as well.
@@NewLayer Okay so I figured out the issue... The tweak is producing the bevel from all sides of the object, not just one, so when its going around the sharp points like in a "V", it's creating rounded bevels... do you know of any way to apply this to only some of the edges and not all at the same time? Thanks either way!
I'm not sure, perhaps you're looking under Contour or Texture instead of the actual Bevel & Emboss area. It's definitely there as it hasn't changed in ~10 years within Photoshop.
fucking awesome effect bro,thx a lot =)) this text effect could be a bit shiny for a better visual, but looks awesome anyway =DD now i learned new techniques about shadows :3 on your next tutorial video, put the colors code on screen that you are using or in description, but here goes my like of course o/ now i have a badass Lord of The Rings wallpaper for my desktop haha

Ah, my favorite kind of tutorial.
"Let's get started. Before we get started,"
My favorite kind of comment, petty and worthless.

Very cool tutorial! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Brittany, hope it comes in handy for you :)
Great video. Learned a lot. Saving the effect for later use is very useful, learned how to do that too. Thanks a lot!
Thanks! You’re welcome. And it’s definitely a good candidate to save for re-use in the future :)
Love it
Very good
Thanks
Great Video! I do have a question, I am getting some horizontal lines on the letters as I enlarge them, do you know why?

Where is the properties tab in Cs5? I don't see it under Window menu or Preferences. Thanks in advance!
what do u change to make the light come from the center of the text? thanks!
IS THE VERY NICE BRO

It's very useful. Thank you bro
I honestly have a question concerning GLOBAL LIGHT. What is its use, function and effect in photoshop?
If you check the Global Light box, it will use the same angle throughout all the FX, rather than individual angles per effect.
@@NewLayer thanks for explaining!
For the light effect at the start why bother with the curves adjustment when you can just do a normal paint brush and change the blend mode?
Because it looks different/more realistic in my opinion. There's like 10 ways to do a vignette and this is my favorite.
Somehow this has GoT vibes. Nice!
Thanks, that was my intention when I came up with this Layer Style a few years ago :)
Thanks.

best thank you

What is the procedure of working, when we are just making an effect with the text, without having a background?

@@mvmoto6506 It's hard to say for certain without seeing an example, but it sounds like you're trying to do more than Photoshop Layer Styles offers.
What kind of Serif are you using? Is there a download link for it?
The font is just Trajan Pro, which you'll find in a lot of variations for free on places like dafont.com or fontsquirrel.com. Hope that helps :)

Can you please make me one Text style for my Shop Name? You are 👍

When I get to layer Styles and select Bevel and Emboss I don't get the same amount of Setting as you are getting - Technique, Direction Altitude etc

Question: Why use Faux Bold when the font comes with a Bold option?
Dang too fast for me, but I will come back when I'm a little faster. Thank you.
You could set the playback speed to .5 or .75x on TH-cam too :)
gratuit
looks like bronze color
very complicated
Don't know what to tell you, you have to do these steps to create this effect, lol.
