This is what I believe what happen Jesus preached to the old testament saints who was in paradise and he led captivly captive meaning he took the old testament saints to heaven with him when he ascended and he moved paradise from hell to heaven and that's why the Apostle Paul said to be absent from the body present with the Lord after death immediately if you are saved you are in the presence of the Lord.

I think your theory is as close to the actual truth as possible. I believe this over all the other vast views. One question to you is why would he need to preach to the OT saints when they were already saved?

@@Palmetto-J In Luke 16 : 19 - 31 we find out that people could speak between the torment side of Hades and the paradise side of Hades. So when Jesus arrived in paradise after his crucifixion he was able to announce to those in the torment side of Hades about his victory on the cross. If the abyss is where the fallen angels were placed and the abyss is the great gulf that existed between the torment side and the paradise side, then maybe the fallen angels were able to hear Jesus' victory proclamation when he gave it from paradise. Maybe Jesus was directing his victory announcement to the fallen angels in the abyss (prison).

The way I see it. Jesus descended into paradise, he told the thief on the cross today you will be with me in paradise. He goes there to preach the gospel. Scripture says, the rich man in hell could talk to Abraham in paradise. So those in chains in hell heard him. Why preach? Because some of the people in paradise were gentiles who went there on the basis of their deeds:
Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts.(Romans 2:14-15)
When Jesus ascends to heaven he takes those formerly in paradise with him. Now when we depart this world we are immediately present with Christ.

my pastor in the word of faith movement in Detroit has taught this
to congregation for 45 years, he says that Jesus had to go to hell and suffer for us because that's what we deserved as sinners, this theory of his is completely unscritpural and really diminishes the cross of Christ and just what the significance of what Jesus accomplished for us through his sacrificial death.Bishop Butler needs to only say what the Bible says about Jesus' death, burial and resurrection and add nothing else to it!

This is my understanding. He was on the side between the chasem of the two locations. And his arrival there "preached" to those in the side of Hell, when he went to those on the paradise side. Then at his resurrection, paradise went with Jesus to Heaven. The earthquake and those dead in the tombs were seen by many and then they disappeared. This showed they left the holding cell until Jesus death, and he spent time with them for 3 days in paradise, and when He was were raised , they were raised. Jesus told Mary not to cling to him. And he left to Heaven with the believers from paradise. Then he came back , and stayed Resurrection Day, and for 40 days.
Honestly, it's the only thing that makes sense when one looks at Scipture

“For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart (Paradise) of the earth."- Matthew 12:40
      The Rich Man and Lazarus
19)“There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day.
20)“But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate,
21)“desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fellfn from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22)“So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom (Paradise). The rich man also died and was buried.
23)“And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom (Paradise).
24)“Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’
25)“But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.
26)‘And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’
27)“Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house,
28)‘for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’
29)“Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses (the Law) and the prophets; let them hear them.’
30)“And he said, ‘No,(still rebellious and unrepentant) father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’
31)“But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’ ”- Luke 16:19-31 NKJV
"And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”- Luke 23:43
"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me,
Because the LORD has anointed Me
      To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound (in Paradise);"-Isaiah 61:1.

I told her that he did, not to suffer but to retrieve the captives that died before Jesus died on the cross for our sins. I comment this randomly before I even watch the video, I find it interesting that when Jesus was here, people thought he spoke blasphemy and did not believe him. I wonder if when the Antichrist comes and tries to show himself as God, if people will believe it to be blasphemy as well or just follow along.

    • @jdizzle18diz
      @jdizzle18diz ปีที่แล้ว

The difference is the antichrist will deceive people with things they want to hear, like perhaps claiming to have a cure for cancer and all other sicknesses in the world, or offering freedom from medical and financial burdens, etc., but ultimately will end up turning on everyone and then forcing them to comply to the system (rules) of the “beast” (satan) and to worship the “beast” and his image, or they will be killed… no other options or exemptions will exist. Jesus came and spoke the truth but that contained some areas that made people very uncomfortable or flat out angry, even those who claimed to be believers and demonstrated good moral behavior prior to hearing teachings directly from Jesus. When some people realized what came with following unconditionally and being fully committed, it brought spite and guilt and probably some level of fear to them, and they became offended on various levels, similar to the reactions of any individual who is unwilling to learn or at least listen/understand any opposing view of their own. Some people left from the teachings, others like the Pharisees needed a reason to dismiss the teachings, classifying them as illegitimate, so they chose to accuse the character of Jesus instead, calling him a blasphemous impersonator who needed to be killed for his “lies”. That’s why Jesus says that many will come to him claiming all the things they have done in His name, such as driving out demons or anything to shine a light on their good deeds, but God knows the heart, and the intent behind every act, and for those who never truly believed or followed Him, he will say “Depart from me, I never knew you”. Jesus never forced anyone to act a certain way, but stood firm in his teachings and in demonstrating how to follow correctly, such as how to pray, how to be kind, how to show love and humility, and to have understanding that it is not by our own behavior or deeds, but it stems from within the heart, and by that it naturally will be evident through our actions after giving up selfish ambitions and vain conceit, and giving thanks to God the Father for everything we have and don’t have, as everything is from Him. The antichrist will be temporarily patient as he allows for “freedom” to exist at first, after introducing his many schemes to build trust and followers, and by keeping everyone happy as he prepares for a system that will confine everyone, whether they had trust in him or not, and when the time comes, without warning or reason, he will make a complete 180 and strip the laws that enable freedom, and implement rules and laws/mandates that hold everyone captive, whether mentally, physically or both, and these restrictions will include all choice, especially religion, and people will be forced to worship the beast (satan) and his image, and we can already see how easy it is going to be for surveillance and monitoring to detect any person who does not comply. I wouldn’t be surprised if cameras are enforced in every room, or if homes are fully customized to fit the “beast” system, created by “beast” operatives. People will literally lose their heads if they choose to worship any other system of belief. So to add my opinion on it, I see strong evidence of an increase in swiftness in utilizing technology and the platforms around it, and I’m already seeing steps being taken that arguably have the capability of being instrumental in decorating such a deceptive system that appears to have good intentions and is necessary but also way too intrusive to our personal assets and too influential to the well being of society as a whole. These platforms are what hold the most important components to our current earthly freedoms, which is banking platforms and social media platforms. Money and attention is what feeds and destroys the human mind outside of anything related to faith/religion/beliefs. This is specifically referring to money as a means to make a living and stay healthy. Where we focus our attention is ultimately what shapes us on a large and small scale and in many areas of life. This is why we are to meditate on God’s word day and night. It’s also why there’s so many distractions in the world, and noticeably increasing as I personally believe the implementation stage of the beast system is officially being built, as the preparing and waiting has appeared (to me) to reach the beginning of the end and people are focused on everything but God. Everything being talked about or argued about today is usually something that goes directly against God’s word, such as homosexuality, defining genders, bringing kids into drag shows but screaming to watch sound of freedom, fighting for abortion not against it, etc. I’m not asking what anyone believes to be right, I’m just pointing out that the strongest arguments you will see today are the arguments that are on the prosecution table with God being the one on trial. If that doesn’t tell you all you need to know then not sure what will.
Oh, and I just realized I’m going on a tangent and way off focus of the original topic of this thread, so that’s my fault, but hope it encourage/motivates someone somewhere and maybe can help to engage more in their journey to God and righteousness. Hope everyone has a blessed day!

What Shea Houdmann summarized at the end of the video is absolutely critical! What's important is that Christ died and He resurrected on the third day. What Jesus was doing after His death and before His resurrection is not that important. If the Bible does not go into specific details, then there is no point of arguing amongst one another. And there are a lot of these cases too. Focus on the bigger picture.

What if, just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale for three days, so was the Son of man in the heart of the earth? What if Jesus had to believe God for resurrection for three days before God raised Him up? Did you ever have to believe God for a seemingly endless period of time before you received from Him? Our interpretations should prioritize the confirming of God's truth with other scripture. Not whether we argue over interpretation. This is not a case of "everyone has their own truth". There is but ONE truth. And we are commanded to study the word of God and discern that truth. Not come up with feel good doctrine that makes everyone happy based on their own ideology. There is no such thing as making everyone happy as some people refuse the truth.
To say that Jesus did not or could not go to hell and preach a message of victory or redemption is denying God's Omnipresence and authority over all things. You can say Jesus went to Sheol to preach a message without believing He went to Sheol to be punished. Those are not mutually inclusive.

Luke 16 would negate that. Lazarus didn't go to hell. He was located in Paradise, Abrahams bosom. The rich man on the other hand....
I don't think this is a parable either as it gives a name, Lazarus and this would be the only "parable" that Jesus did that in.
Hades had 2 areas, paradise/Abrahams Bosom and then the hell portion, where the rich man was.

Shea (at 8:54) your youth pastor was sharing with you a “partial” picture of what the early church fathers taught. Yes, the focus should be on verse 18, for that is the main point Peter is making. Christ suffered for our sins to make us alive in the Spirit. Then from verse 19 on, Peter is making two parenthetical points tied to each other. Verses 19 & 20 is the first which corresponds directly to the days of Noah. The second parenthetical point is from 21-ff where he uses the 8 saved on the ark to correspond with believers baptism but that’s a point for another discussion. So, verses 19 & 20 must be interpreted in the light of Noah and the flood or your understanding will not be anchored in scripture. Here is generally what the early church fathers taught. All through scripture, Satan’s object is to destroy God’s salvation plan. But our sovereign God has limitations on Satan and his angels. When they try to move outside of the Lord’s parameters of operation, they are punished. For example Satan had to “ask” to sift Job. In Genesis 6:1-8 we see where evil spirits (son’s of God) were having children with human woman (daughter’s of man) creating a hybrid unredeemable 1/2 human 1/2 evil spirit called Nephilim that in time would overtake all humanity by in-breading. That’s why God took righteous Noah and his family and started over killing off corrupted & unredeemable humanity. These evil spirits who dared to try to operate outside of God’s dictates who “…formerly did not obey…” (1 Peter 3:20) were locked up in a special prison (not hell [or gehenna, sheol but “phylake”- in the Greek it can be translated as cage - They were “caged’ spirits for defying God, vs 19) until final judgement so they could not do it again, and other evil spirits who still run loose today would be put on notice that they cannot operate outside of God’s dictates. So Jesus simply went to this “special prison or “cage” to chastise them once again for daring to stand against God’s plan reminding them of their defeat. Jesus did not descend into hell. 2 Peter enlighten’s us more in 2:4-5 as Peter brings it up again and uses the Greek “tartaros” this time (meaning “abyss” which is “sometimes” translated as “hell” but its exact translation is “abyss”). Jude also gives us further enlightenment on this issue in vs 5-7 where these fallen angels did not “…stay within their position of authority, but left their proper dwelling…” therefore this prison, cage, or abyss was a special place (not hell) where God put them for special torment because they dared to try to usurp His authority. BTW, can you imagine these spirits being let out of their cage with Satan at the end (Revelation 20:7-ff)? All I can say is be on Jesus’ side. Hope this brings clarity to what your youth pastor was trying to teach you. It seems to be vague but taken in its full Biblical context, I think the early church fathers got it right. Thanks for your ministry and Lord bless you guys.

Since the gates of Paradise were closed after the eviction of Adam and Eve and could not be reopened until after the crucifixion, the " holding " place where all the just, prophets etc were detained was a place where Christ descended to that they could now be liberated and enter the Gates of Heaven, they seemed to refer to Hell as a generalisation for anywhere below , the Hell of the reprobates is closed to Christ because there is no hope and his face could never shine or be seen there .

If you believe that Man has an "Immortal Soul", an inner "Ghost Entity", an "Eternal Spirit", then just CHOOSE whatever you want as to where Jesus "went", i.e., some place in the Cosmos, in Heaven or on Earth, where he was living with and/or communicating with OTHER "ghosts" for 3 days and 3 nights. In other words, if you believe this "way" it really doesn't matter one iota WHERE you THINK he "went" because quite simply the Bible doesn't tell us of such an Adventure. You would simply be SPECULATING and your personal SPECULATION is just as "good" or just as "bad" as anyone else's.
Now, if you believe what the Bible DOES say then there is no need for SPECULATION and GUESSING. Jesus tells us WHERE he was:
Matt 12:39 But He answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation demands a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
Matt 12:40 For as Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the HEART OF THE EARTH three days and three nights. (HCSB)
Matt 27:59 So Joseph took the body, wrapped it in clean, fine linen,
Matt 27:60 and PLACED IT IN HIS NEW TOMB, which he had cut into the rock. He left after rolling a great stone against the entrance of the TOMB.
Matt 27:61 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were seated there, facing the TOMB. (HCSB)
Matt 28:5 But the angel told the women, “Don’t be afraid, because I know you are looking for Jesus who was crucified.
Matt 28:6 He is NOT HERE! For He has been resurrected, just as He said. Come and see THE PLACE WHERE HE LAY.
Matt 28:7 Then go quickly and tell His disciples, ‘He has been RAISED FROM THE DEAD. In fact, He is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see Him there.’ Listen, I have told you.” (HCSB)
Acts 2:24 God raised Him up, ending the PAINS OF DEATH, because it was not possible for Him to be held by it. (HCSB)
The plain and simple truth is that Jesus was in a Tomb, in a Grave, in a Sepulcher, in Jerusalem, for three days and three nights, JUST LIKE THE SCRIPTURES SAY. He himself, Jesus, was DEAD - not alive - and was BURIED in a TOMB - not walking or flying around - bought by Joseph of Aramathea. The N.T. Writers would have told us WHERE Jesus's supposed "immortal soul" or "eternal spirit" or "ghost" would have gone IF in fact we Humans actually HAVE this "immortal entity" IN us. But the fact is we do not HAVE an "immortal soul" which somehow SURVIVES Death, becomes a "Ghost", and wanders the Cosmos.
We are MORTALS, people who are subject to DEATH, i.e., cessation of breathing, dying, and ACTUALLY being LIFELESS. So when MORTALS die, where do they go? They ALL "go" to the same place Jesus "went"; they "go" to their GRAVES which in Ancient times was Figuratively called "Sheol" by the Jews and "Hades" by the Greeks. In reality they ALL "see" CORRUPTION and TURN to DUST.
Job 34:14 If He put His mind to it and withdrew the spirit and breath He gave,
Job 34:15 every living thing would perish together and mankind would return to the dust. (HCSB)
Gen 3:19 You will eat bread by the sweat of your brow until you return to the ground, since you were taken from it. For you are dust, and you will return to dust.” (HCSB)
There is plenty more in Scripture about what happens to the DEAD, which included Jesus. There is no need for SPECULATON. What ratifies what I have just said is the FACT that DEAD People, those in their Grave - whatever IMAGINITIVE cultural Name you want to call it doesn't change one thing - have to be Resurrected FROM THE GRAVE, where they are "sleeping", "residing", "awaiting", FIGURATIVELY SPEAKING, for the "last trump" to sound, when Jesus RETURNS to Earth. Where is King David?
Acts 2:29 “Brothers, I can confidently speak to you about the patriarch David: He is both DEAD and BURIED, and his TOMB is with us to this day. (HCSB)
There are no "Ghosts"- as Roman Catholicism has held - neither in Heaven, nor on Earth nor anywhere else in the Universe. Jesus NEVER became a "Ghost", i.e. a wandering disembodied immortal dead entity. When people DIE they REMAIN "Deader than a Door Nail" and "Lifeless as a Rock" UNTIL Resurrection. Jesus was no exception.

    • @paulnavarro3822
      @paulnavarro3822 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@michaelsamuel1069 - I am speaking to you from Arizona. Lol. It ain't heavy man, it's quite simple "mate".
The Writings, in the Bible, Genesis through Revelation, have nothing to say about "Ghosts" or disembodied "Immortal Souls". The notion that Man's body is possessed of an Entity or Soul which "lives on forever" is an ancient Egyptian Religious Superstition. The Writings of Scripture tell us that Man is Mortal and that when a Man dies he ACTUALLY DIES and "returns to dust". Does the following verse say anything about a "Ghost Entity" leaving the dead body and travelling the Cosmos?
Gen 3:19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you RETURN TO THE GROUND, for out of it you were taken; for YOU ARE DUST, and to DUST YOU SHALL RETURN.”
Death is not an escape to another "Realm". It is simply a cessation of life, i.e., you are no longer alive, you are no longer breathing, you are dead, period. All who have died are STILL on this Earth, STILL quite dead. They have not "gone" anywhere. Jesus was no exception. When he was killed he stopped being alive and was buried in a Tomb. Jesus did not "go" anywhere for those three days and three nights. I cited the verses previously which you can read again if you so wish.
This notion or idea that Jesus was in a disembodied "Ghost" state after he was killed is not garnered from Scripture. The Scriptures are plain in saying that Jesus himself (not "just his body" as most say) was "in the grave three days and three nights". A dead Man can "go" nowhere and Jesus was no exception.
Dead people cannot get themselves out of their graves. So, how did he get out of the grave which he had been in for three days and three nights? The answer is simple.
Acts 2:22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a MAN attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know-
Acts 2:23 this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and KILLED by the hands of lawless men.
Acts 2:24 God RAISED HIM UP up, LOOSING THE PANGS OF DEATH, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.
The Bible tells us that God Himself RAISED Jesus from the Grave. Jesus did not and could not raise himself from the dead. Most Christians erroneously believe that Jesus "came back to life" on his own, i.e., retook possession of his dead body and came out of the Grave. But that is not what Scripture actually portrays.
Just like Lazarus - who had been dead and in his Grave for four days - Jesus was also POWERLESS to get out of that "prison". However, God, who CANNOT die, is never powerless and He "raised Jesus from the Grave". Jesus' supposed "Ghost" had not been flying around all over the Cosmos preaching to other "Ghosts" after he died. He was actually just DEAD and laying in a Tomb, doing nothing.
The Resurrection is the only HOPE which every Man is offered to defeat the power of the Grave. Faith in God's only begotten Son is required. God has GIVEN His Son, the Resurrected Lord Jesus Christ, the POWER or AUTHORITY to raise Men from their Graves. This is what he promised to do "at the last trump" as the Apostle Paul wrote.
1Cor 15:51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all SLEEP, but we shall all be changed,
1Cor 15:52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at THE LAST TRUMPET. For the trumpet will sound, and the DEAD WILL BE RAISED IMPERISHABLE, and we shall be changed.
1Cor 15:53 For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.
1Cor 15:54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
1Cor 15:55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
The Christian awaits the RETURN of the Lord Jesus Christ to Earth, at which time all who have DIED "in Christ", i.e., having Faith in him, will be "raised from the dead" just as Jesus was "raised from the dead" by God the Father. Dying does not "free" anyone rather it imprisons; the only way of escape from the Prison of the Grave is through RESURRECTION which is what the Biblical Christian Faith is all about. We look forward to having Eternal Life when Jesus RETURNS and not a nano second before.
OTHER "faiths" or "religions" claim that dying frees the supposed "immortal soul", i.e., a Ghost Entity, from the body. This includes Roman Catholicism and most Protestant "Christian" Denominations who have bought into that Egyptian way of thinking. Their claim or belief is that a Person's "ghost entity" or "immortal soul" travels the Cosmos after having been liberated or separated at death. However, these are just SPOOK TALES, "Tales from the Crypt", which come from the IMAGINATION of ungodly men.
The Bible is God's Revelation to Men; He is the only one who KNOWS what happens to Men when they die and He has actually REVEALED that Truth in the book of Genesis. He says absolutely nothing about Adam having been created with an "immortal soul" inside of his body. Nor does He say that Adam was "going to heaven" or "going to hell" or going anywhere after he died. He said Adam would RETURN to the Earth from which he was "taken"; when Adam died he simply RETURNED to "dust", nothing more. God has not invented ANOTHER WAY, Man however has invented ANOTHER WAY.
      This ain't "rocket science" Mate!

The description asks a specific question. Jesus’ soul/ spirit was in the same place as any and every other person who has lived and died on this earth. He was dead, asleep like everyone who has ever died. The thief on the cross didn’t inherit the promises made to Abraham before Abraham (Hebrews 11). Was the thief the very first person ever to ascend to Heaven at death? He would have to be to believe that’s where He went.

The simple is usually the right answer..
Honestly, this is the only thing that makes sense when one looks at Scipture.
    Luke 16:22-31
    1 Peter 3:18-20
He, Jesus' being, was on the side between the chasem of the two locations. And his "arrival'" there (and how he arrived; descended as the shining glorified Jesus in his full deity) "preached" to those humans in the side of Hell "that the Messiah has come", when he went to those on the paradise side. He was able to spend time with those in paradise for 3 days, to celebrate, and meet the Messiah who was promised to come. He said Here I AM.

    Summary of the video :
1 Peter 3 : 18 - 20 "For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. In the Spirit he also went and made proclamation to the spirits in prison - to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water,"
Kevin (managing editor of Got Questions Ministries) said one view is that between the death and resurrection of Jesus, Jesus went to Hell/Hades (the place of torment) and he made an announcement of some type to spirits who were imprisoned there. Within this interpretation there are different branches of understanding of the events in Hades. One branch presents Jesus speaking to demons (fallen angels) a message of victory over Satan and the other branch presents Jesus speaking to evil human spirits a message of victory over Satan.
Keven presented another view (the one he holds to) that Peter is presenting a parenthetical statement in his letter about something Jesus had done previously in history : in the spirit Jesus preached to people in Noah's day while they were still living on earth before they were put in the prison of Hell. The people of Noah's day heard God's message about repenting from their sin so God would turn his coming judgment away. This view sees Noah's preaching of repentance being the result of the spirit of Christ working through Noah to get his message to the wicked generation around Noah. When Peter wrote his letter that wicked generation was dead and in the prison of Hell for not obeying Christ's message to them in Noah's day.
    ====
Ephesians 4 : 7 - 10 "But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. This is why it says:
    “When he ascended on high,
    he took many captives
and gave gifts to his people.”
(What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.)"
Jeff Laird (managing editor of bibleref.com) said Paul's message to the Ephesian Christians is dealing with God turning his enemies into His friends and into His own people. Jesus captures his enemies like warlords do, but in the case of Jesus he transforms his enemies into friends. Jesus transforms his enemies into citizens of his eternal kingdom. Jesus captures his enemies, but he does not punish them, instead he blesses them.
Jeff said the overall message Paul is communicating shows Jesus as a conqueror over death and sin who is bringing people into his kingdom as he is leading a host of captives the way a conqueror would except these captives are actually people he is rescuing. He is leading them out of death and into life.
Kevin presented another interpretation which holds that Christ's ascension is a straightforward description of Christ's ascension into heaven and the gifts mentioned in Ephesians 4 refers to the gift of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This interpretation sees the captives as being sin and death which Christ conquered and are now defeated.
    ===
Shea Houdmann said some people misunderstand the Apostle's creed where it says Jesus descended into Hell. They think Jesus went to Hell to suffer for our sins. Shea said the Bible does not teach Jesus descended into Hell to suffer. When Jesus was on the cross Jesus told the thief on a cross, "Today you will be with me in paradise." (Luke 23:43) Jesus did not say today you will be with me in Hell.
When Jesus was on the cross he said, "It is finished." (John 19 : 30) The Greek word for this statement is "tetelestai" which is an accounting term that means the debt is paid in full. So Jesus paid the price for our sin while on the cross. He did not need to go to Hell to suffer for our sins. He suffered on the cross for our sins and then he said, "It is finished." This is how we know Jesus dealt with our sins on the cross and did not go to Hell to suffer for our sins.

From an ancient homily for Holy Saturday:
“ .... there is a great silence on earth today, a great silence and stillness. The whole earth keeps silence because the King is asleep.
The earth trembled and is still because God has fallen asleep in the flesh and he has raised up all who have slept ever since the world began. God has died in the flesh and hell trembles with fear.
He has gone to search for our first parent, as for a lost sheep. Greatly desiring to visit those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, he has gone to free from sorrow the captives Adam and Eve, he who is both God and the son of Eve.
The Lord approached them bearing the cross, the weapon that had won him the victory. At the sight of him Adam, the first man he had created, struck his breast in terror and cried out to everyone: “My Lord be with you all.” Christ answered him: “And with your spirit.”
He took him by the hand and raised him up, saying: “Awake, O sleeper, and rise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” I am your God, who for your sake have become your son. Out of love for you and for your descendants I now by my own authority command all who are held in bondage to come forth, all who are in darkness to be enlightened, all who are sleeping to arise.
I order you, O sleeper, to awake. I did not create you to be held a prisoner in hell. Rise from the dead, for I am the life of the dead. Rise up, work of my hands, you who were created in my image.
Rise, let us leave this place, for you are in me and I am in you; together we form only one person and we cannot be separated. For your sake I, your God, became your son; I, the Lord, took the form of a slave; I, whose home is above the heavens, descended to the earth and beneath the earth.
For your sake, for the sake of man, I became like a man without help, free among the dead. For the sake of you, who left a garden, I was betrayed to the Jews in a garden, and I was crucified in a garden.
See on my face the spittle I received in order to restore to you the life I once breathed into you. See there the marks of the blows I received in order to refashion your warped nature in my image. On my back see the marks of the scourging I endured to remove the burden of sin that weighs upon your back. See my hands, nailed firmly to a tree, for you who once wickedly stretched out your hand to a tree.
I slept on the cross and a sword pierced my side for you who slept in paradise and brought forth Eve from your side. My side has healed the pain in yours. My sleep will rouse you from your sleep in hell. The sword that pierced me has sheathed the sword that was turned against you.
Rise, let us leave this place. The enemy led you out of the earthly paradise. I will not restore you to that paradise, but I will enthrone you in heaven. I forbade you the tree that was only a symbol of life, but see, I who am life itself am now one with you. I appointed cherubim to guard you as slaves are guarded, but now I make them worship you as God.
The throne formed by cherubim awaits you, its bearers swift and eager. The bridal chamber is adorned, the banquet is ready, the eternal dwelling places are prepared, the treasure houses of all good things lie open. The kingdom of heaven has been prepared for you from all eternity”.

Can you please help me out on understanding what Son of God really means and how it affected the relationship before the incarnation since Jesus was eternally the Son of God. Some sermon I watch pastors (for example purposes) would have Jesus referring to the Father as Dad before the Incarnation. I used to think that the Dad Son role was a role Jesus took upon himself at the incarnation to be an example for us. Please if you have time can you help me out. And I do submit to the trinity I just need clarification on the Son of God role before the incarnation. And secondly I was watch a live on Sam shamoun channel about how the Father became Jesus's God since Jesus added a fleshly nature to himself and the Bible teaches that the Father is God of all flesh. Someone then asked if the Holy Spirit would then become Jesus's God also and Sam said no. If you have time helping me out on this issue also it would be much appreciated. Keep up the good work God bless you.

    Part 2
From both the Bible and scholastic studies of the last half century, it is clear that baptism for the dead was practiced by the early Christians.2 Is it any wonder, then, that when it came time for the Lord Jesus Christ to restore to earth in the latter days his gospel in its purity and power, he would restore the truths concerning salvation for the dead?3 With such truths restored, the Lord also restored the power and authority of his priesthood. Why? So that the ordinances performed, both for the living and the dead, would be valid and binding before God.
Prior to his departure from mortality, the Lord gave priesthood power to Peter, the chief Apostle, so that he and others to whom he delegated that power could perform baptisms and the other ordinances vital to man’s salvation. To Peter the Lord promised, “I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matt. 16:19).
These same priesthood keys were restored in the last days of this dispensation. T he Lord clarified the conditions that exist after we leave mortality: “And verily I say unto you, that the conditions … are these: All covenants, contracts, bonds, obligations, oaths, vows, performances, connections, associations, or expectations, that are not made and entered into and sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise, of him who is anointed … (and I have appointed unto my servant Joseph to hold this power in the last days … ), are of no efficacy, virtue, or force in and after the resurrection from the dead; for all contracts that are not made unto this end have an end when men are dead.
“Behold, mine house is a house of order” (D&C 132:7-8**).
Thus, with his priesthood power to seal ordinances on earth and have them binding in heaven, the Lord has extended gospel blessings to the deceased of all mankind. The same ordinances performed for the living can be offered in proxy by someone standing in for the deceased! Not only baptism, but also the covenants and blessings of the endowment and of eternal marriage are made available to all those who could not receive them in this life.
Each day, thousands of Latter-day Saints enter temples of the Lord and perform these ordinances in behalf of their fathers and mothers, grandfathers and grandmothers-as far back as known records can disclose names and identities of real individuals. These persons-dead to us, but very much alive in the spirit world-are, as the Master said, awaiting the “good tidings” that their work has been performed so that they may receive liberty from the “prison” wherein they “are bound.” When these ordinances are performed on their behalf, they are able to keep to a greater degree the commandments of the Lord and continue their growth and progression.
Clearly, however, no earthly activity interferes in any way with the right of choice exercised by persons in the spirit world. They are free to accept or reject the ministrations in their behalf. If they choose to accept the ordinances performed for them, exercise faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and repent, they are released from their spiritual bondage. If they choose not to accept those conditions, they remain in their spiritual bondage. Their right to choose remains inviolate. Agency is an eternal inheritance we each have from God our Father, and it is fundamental to our personal development. The Lord’s work goes on in the spirit world as it goes on here in mortality, in that all mankind are graciously invited, not forced, to receive the fulness of the gospel and to use it to ennoble their lives.
These truths concerning salvation for the dead are so important that they were among the first principles taught to the Prophet Joseph Smith at the opening of this dispensation. On 21 September 1823, only three years after he was first visited by the Father and the Son and four years before he would receive the plates of the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith was visited by the angel Moroni. The angelic instructor said that the time would soon come when Malachi’s Old Testament prophecy would be fulfilled wherein the “hearts of the children”-we, the posterity of our forebears-shall turn “to their fathers”-our ancestors (see Mal. 4:6). Four times Moroni repeated Malachi’s prophecy that Elijah the prophet would be sent by the Lord to reveal the authority and knowledge necessary for this work to begin.
It is the solemn witness of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that Elijah the prophet did come as was both anciently and modernly foretold. While the world went about its normal activities on 3 April 1836, Elijah the prophet appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery in the newly dedicated temple in Kirtland, Ohio, and gave them the authority to reinstate baptism for the dead as well as all other ordinances necessary for the salvation of the dead. “Therefore,” said Elijah, “the keys of this dispensation are committed into your hands” (D&C 110:16**).
Since that day in 1836, the Latter-day Saints have built temples throughout the world in which the ordinances of the gospel can be performed for our forebears. To facilitate their search for the identities of their progenitors, Latter-day Saints have also established genealogical libraries and other aids to family history research that are used worldwide.
Stirring witness of salvation for the dead was also given to a subsequent latter-day prophet in 1918. President Joseph F. Smith recorded a vision he received on October 3 as he read and pondered 1 Peter 3:8-20 and 1 Peter 4:6 [1 Pet. 3:8-20; 1 Pet. 4:6] wherein the Apostle Peter discusses the Lord Jesus Christ’s visit to the spirit world after his crucifixion:
“As I pondered over these things which were written, the eyes of my understanding were opened, and the Spirit of the Lord rested upon me, and I saw the hosts of the dead, both great and small.
“And there were gathered together in one place an innumerable company of the spirits of the just. …
    “While this vast multitude waited and conversed, rejoicing in the hour of their deliverance from the chains of death, the Son of God appeared, declaring liberty to the captives who had been faithful;
“And there he preached to them the everlasting gospel, the doctrine of the resurrection and the redemption of mankind from the fall, and from individual sins on conditions of repentance. …
    “I perceived that the Lord went not in person among the wicked and the disobedient who had rejected the truth, to teach them;
“But behold, from among the righteous, he organized his forces and appointed messengers, clothed with power and authority, and commissioned them to go forth and carry the light of the gospel to them that were in darkness, even to all the spirits of men.
“Thus was the gospel preached to those who had died in their sins, without a knowledge of the truth, or in transgression, having rejected the prophets.
“These were taught faith in God, repentance from sin, vicarious baptism for the remission of sins, the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands,
“And all other principles of the gospel that were necessary for them to know in order to qualify themselves. …
“I beheld that the faithful elders of this dispensation, when they depart from mortal life, continue their labors in the preaching of the gospel of repentance and redemption, through the sacrifice of the Only Begotten Son of God, among those who are in darkness and under the bondage of sin in the great world of the spirits of the dead.
“The dead who repent will be redeemed, through obedience to the ordinances of the house of God” (D&C 138:11-12, 18-19, 29-30, 32-34, 57-58). See part 3 below.

Number One, I don't think the Bible ever refers to us as spirits, but it does often call us souls. So I don't see why in this ONE verse, God would refer to the very alive in their bodies, people during Noah's day, as spirits - "in prison." Number two, Why would Christ go back in time so that the Holy Spirit could speak to Him to speak to Noah? Why wouldn't the Holy Spirit just tell Noah like he does to other people in the Old Testament? Why does he need to speak to Jesus and have Him tell Noah the words the Spirit could just say on His own? Makes no sense. Neither does the reverse, that Jesus, in the Spirit (? or in His flesh?) is telling the Holy Spirit to tell Noah what to say? Why would any of this ever be necessary? That's kind of ridiculous to me. I think it makes way more sense that He simply went to the dead "in prison," whether that's Hell or not, and gave them the gospel.

A little disagree with the view on 1 Peter 3. Why? It said only 8 went into the ark. It’s not referring to angels had a opportunity to go in. The ones Noah preach too had a opportunity, and God was patient with. 👈🏾 verse 20. Also, at the beginning of verse 19 it said (in which ἐν ᾧ) 👈🏾. In which is followed after a statement made in verse 18th. I believe that’s what he proclaimed to them. When referring to Noah, it mentions (8/didn’t obey/ark/safety through water 💦). Jude advises the angles that left their "first estate". I think once the angels gave up their estate, they were doomed. They rejected their role God gave them in order to follow satan on this earth. Genesis 6, Luke 10:18, Rev. 12:7-17, 2 Peter 2:4 and Jude seem to indicate this.

Your assumption (Eisegeses) is not accurate. Jesus was in Paradise/Eden (place of comfort) while preaching to everyone (good and wicked), they can hear. Luke 16 in Jesus' own words, they can communicate to each other. Hades and Abraham's bosom/Place of comfort has great chasm but they can still communicate. Take Jesus' literally when he said to the thief on the cross "Today, you will be with me in paradise". Jesus prophesied in Matthew 12:40 He will be 3 days and 3 nights at the heart of the earth (Literally).
Hell is not made yet until the end of millennium Revelation 20:7-10.
Please consider this. This has biblical support without assumptions.

    THE INTERPRETER
Who are you? I am the INTERPRETER! What meaneth thee by that? I am he that was sent to expose MYSTERIES hid from the foundation of the world. Who gave you that power? It is he that is crying at sinners’ heart day and night to let him in. Okay, what do you have to expose this time around? The mystery of his death! The mystery of his resurrection! And finally, the mystery of what happened between his death and resurrection! Okay, what about that? Yes, a man (Christ) left his glorious majesty and REGENERATED into a woman that knoweth not a man, and the seed(Most Holiest) was WATERED by the Holy Ghost! Looking at the man (Christ) at wilderness, I discovered he has FORCES to CONTEND with. What forces is that? It is the FORCES of DARKNESS. Who created it? It is his father (Jehovah). Why was it created, seeing He (Jehovah) is the father of Light? Yes, He (Jehovah) will be a very, very PARTIAL God if he had created only things of Light.
    THINGS OF LIGHT
Before things of light was in place, things of darkness had already being! I don't understand! Yes, Jehovah had to create light after his Son (Christ- Light), but before light was created (Genesis 1:3), darkness had being. Now, the darkness I am talking about is not DARKNESS as per EVIL, (God forbid)! It is darkness as per neither holy nor evil. It was the darkness that covered all things that were meant to be, although had not being, but will surely be (Genesis 1 :2). Yes, the darkness was not evil at all. Now, the Son (Christ) cannot abide in such darkness forever, but the father (Jehovah) can (Psalms 97:2, Psalms 18:11), hence, the need of Light (Genesis 1:3). Looking at the father (Jehovah), I discovered he is the father of all spirits (whether holy or not). Looking at the father (Jehovah), I discovered he is the father of all flesh (whites and blacks). Looking at the father (Jehovah ), I discovered he is the father of... Now, it will take eternity of professors, eternity of year's to write what the interpreter (writer) wants to write. Yes, he is not an ordinary man. Okay, as I looked at a region, I discovered it is of COMPLETE DARKNESS. As I looked at another region, I discovered it is neither of LIGHT nor of DARKNESS. As I looked at the last region (although), I discovered it is of LIGHT. Looking at my little book of wisdom (Bible), I discovered that the Creator only mentioned Light and Darkness. As I looked at my little book of wisdom (Bible), I discovered that there was FORCES (neither of Light nor of Darkness) that was not mentioned. Asking why? I discovered it is the WILL of the great King (Jehovah) to keep some things secret, and expose it through babe (The Interpreter), at these last days (almost rapture). Looking at man (whites and bkacks), I discovered it is also the will of the great King (Jehovah) to create men that are neither whites not blacks, although they have been erroneously classified either as whites or blacks due to their geographical locations(fair skinned). Okay, looking at plants also created by the great King (Jehovah), I discovered he created the plant of light (tree of life), and he created the plant of darkness ( tree of the knowledge of good and evil). And finally; He created trees that are neither of Light nor of Darkness! A wise man quickly looked at me (interpreter), and asked me, “where are the trees that are neither of light not of darkness?” And I looked at him and smiled! Why are you smiling? Yes, look around you, and you will see that the earth (neither of light nor of darkness) is made of of such TREES. Yes, take for instance, the Manchineel, Bunya Pine, Neem tree, especially the neem tree, it is good and evil. The same tree could be medicinal and poisonous! How? Yes, it could be used as pesticide and large dose in the food could kill a man. It could also be use for furniture and it could also be used in making wooden parts of weapons. So you can see that plants on earth are neither of light nor of darkness. The earth itself is neither of light not of darkness; if you give it light (Sun), it will adopt the position of light; and if you give it darkness (removal of sun), it will adopt the position of darkness. The souls of men are neither of light not of darkness; if you give it light (gospel songs, Christian literature, fasting, prayers, gospel messages), it will adopt the position of light; and if you give it darkness (fornication, masturbation, smoking, alcoholism, gambling, etc.), it will adopt the position of darkness.
Now, talking about FORCES, we have the Forces of Light, the Forces of Darkness, and the Forces that are neither of Light nor of Darkness. Okay, Lucifer was created or rather CLONED with series of precious stones, unlike other angels that were CLONED with just a single stone. Now, Lucifer was banished away from the presence of God, when he had it in his mind to sit where his master (Jehovah) sits, and other angels (both of light and of darkness, although they were all of light then) WORSHIP him. He was banished and was chased away by Angel Michael after empowerment by Jehovah, seeing that before the fall, Angel Michael was not as strong as Lucifer. Hence, God (Jehovah) had to EMPOWER him, in order to FIGHT with Lucifer; and he(Lucifer) and one- third of the angels were pulled unto the earth (spiritually), and finally into the pit (hell). Now, humanity were created and a breath of LOVE was breathe into man, and man became a LIVING BEING; but hell was created by Jehovah -only, and a BREATHE of ANGER (Spirit of Spirit) was breathe into it, and it kindleth and shall never, never stop burning, till the last day, when hell will be lifted up together with its OCCUPANTS (Damned souls, Satan, demons), and will be LAUNCHED into the lake. Now, immediately man ( Adam and Eve) fell at the garden of Eden, they were driven out by the Lord through his angels, and the devil BOUGHT MAN.

Peter's description is the actions of the spirits in the past. His reference is not to Jesus' preaching in the past. The first interpretation is correct. Jesus went and preached a message to the fallen angels and possibly the evil humans.
Peter says in v9 "(Now this, “He ascended”-what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?" That's very clear. He descended. Where? The lower parts of the earth. Sheol...Hades....Hell. Who has the keys to Hell? Jesus does. There's no need to pull "every jot and tittle out" with straight forward language as this.
I think part of the equation that I haven't heard anyone mention on this subject is God's long-suffering for forgiveness. Peter makes a reference to God waiting 120 years while Noah built the ark before sending judgment. Did Jesus offer the fallen angels redemption? Was Jesus there to proclaim His victory and offer the fallen angels a path to redemption? To say there is no possibility is to imply God would not offer forgiveness to the angels. He's certainly shown His patience in forgiving man.

At Jesus' death, he went to hell, which is the grave. As Acts 2:31 says: "Foreseeing this, he spoke of the resurrection of Christ. For neither was he left in hell, neither did his flesh see corruption." Eccl. 9:5 says what the condition of the dead is. As it says: "Foreseeing this, he spoke of the resurrection of Christ. For neither was he left in hell, neither did his flesh see corruption." So, while Jesus was in hell or the grave, he was completely unconscious, which is the condition of everyone who has died. For instance, when Lazarus died, Jesus likened Lazarus' death to sleeping. As Jesus said: “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going there to wake him up.” (John 11:11)
