Flathead were everywhere in the 90's when I was a teenager. They were in pest like amounts in Port Phillip Bay. Other fish species had no chance to attack your bait. Where did they all go? Can anyone elaborate?
Taking them above 60cm is the problem, flatty over 60 are the breeders, they produce the big heathly flattys, its killing there population by taking them over that.
hey mate i love your videos, always good to watch, just started up our own channel of fishing down around South Australia, just a quick question, in your opinion which soft plastic colour is the best and what are the best grounds to look for, for flat head. cheers mate!
In deeper water no colours can be seen as all the wavelengths of light except blue get absorbed, then blue is the last to be absorbed. That’s why the sky and sea are blue.
Nev I know I’m a bit late to this video haha but just wondering what your setup was In this video. Also did you have braid tied to leader or just the regular mono to leader
Awesome vid Nev! I live in Sydney harbour and the water is pretty deep and I am not sure which lures can help me target flathead. Please need some tips.
Use a 2 to 5 kg bream rod 7ft with a very good braid Gosen W hard type 8 10lb or 12lb with FC Rock 8lb flouro leader trace, 1/12 to 1/8th even 1/6th jig head with a suitable plastic lures (google it) the lighter jig weight the better for the conditions. Plastics like gulp turtle back worm 4inch camo colour are a good all round plastic type lure as the fish eat it. A good hard body lure would be the double deep or deep Jackall Chubby lure in Ghost gill or ghost Ayu colours buy both and just roll them over 2 to 3m water on drop offs or throw shorelines. Gulp and plastics can go deeper and try jigging on the drift. Hard bodies Chubbys will go to 2.5 m with th DD Chubbys basically use in shallower waters throw into shorelines. One might invest in a hand line spool with 150lb mono line and attach a tackle back to the line, just incase you get your lures stuck and what them back.
If I was bait fishing i would definitely be using burley but I don’t usually when lure fishing since I’m constantly moving around. Cheers as always paul, legend!👌👑 🍻
@@NevsFishing yeh good point....i bait fish so was wondering if it would pick up the bites in the same way. Maybe give it a go for a vid? See if it makes any difference? Cheers man 🍻
Im all for catch and release, but if I get a flounder and its legal, then its coming home. One of the best eaters out there in my opinion.
Flathead are such a fun fish to catch on lures. Nice sesh Nev...!!

people realised they were good eating and overfished them all
In my belly bro
In the seventies, we would catch them in droves. As you say you can sit of Mordialloc all day and not catch 1😢

Commercial fishing is usually the culprit.
Awesome video mate thanks for taking us along with you
No worries at all, glad you enjoy! 😁👍
Loving the videos man keep it up 👏
Man you've got some great footage! Love the editing! Also double clutch goes off! What state are you fishing in?
Flounder may look like mutant flathead but are really tasty under the griller packed with garlic and oregano.
That flounder was an interesting catch. Good eating I hear.
Heard they chew good, may have to try one sometime! 👌👍
You won't be disappointed.
Went and grabbed a few of those Diawa lures gunna give it a shot tomorrow got the fingers crossed!
Very good lures, hopefully they get you onto a few
Nev's Fishing first ever fish on a hard body lure today mate! Thanks heaps for the lure selection 👍🏼
@@spinksy No worries mate, glad you got onto some! Good work!
How do you rate the Tasline for castability, fraying and wind knots? It's not a cheap braid so curious to hear your thoughs on it, cheers.
Tasline is the best braid I’ve used, ticks all boxes I reckon. It does hurt the pocket though😂
hey mate i love your videos, always good to watch, just started up our own channel of fishing down around South Australia, just a quick question, in your opinion which soft plastic colour is the best and what are the best grounds to look for, for flat head. cheers mate!
Depends on the water clarity but white, pink and greeny yellow colours are usually the best
In deeper water no colours can be seen as all the wavelengths of light except blue get absorbed, then blue is the last to be absorbed. That’s why the sky and sea are blue.
nice video like always Nev.
Question for ya, Nev. Is it ok for the diawa double clutch to scrape along the bottom in such shallows?
Nice fish. Thanks for the vid
Yeah I think it’s good when the lure kicks up a little bit of sand and glad you enjoyed!
Nice I'm liking where you are there I think I know where I'll try walk out there I reckon. Wish me luck
I've used the Daiwa Double Clutch 2 times and caught 3 flattys of 40, 50, 60cm on the Laser Wakasagi
Good on ya doing catch and release
Your videos are the best ever what's your favourite fish to catch I haven't caught a flathead with a rod but I have caught two with a cast net
I love chasing all species of fish but some of my favorites are mulloway, squid and snapper
@@NevsFishing thanks that you reply so quickly
great vid!......what was the lure u caught the flounder on? looked clear with a bit of orange?
Nev I know I’m a bit late to this video haha but just wondering what your setup was In this video. Also did you have braid tied to leader or just the regular mono to leader
3 years late, but you can hear thr braid in the guides. It's braid
You don’t find the double clutch dives too deep on the flat?
Yeah a little bit but you can work around it
Hey mate great video, how deep should the water be for the lure to work?
Was it a good fish? Not sure if you mentioned that or not ... 🤣
If i have a good fish on I will definitely let you know😂
Love it
Cheers👌

When I was prawning I caught a like 0.5 cm flathead in my net
Try micro jogging in the sand holes for flatties on your yak
What would you consider to be a big flathead?
For me 50+ is big 80+ is huge😂
When are you going to go back and catch more big westernport bay fish
Hopefully soon, missing Westernport!

For a little bit, hopefully be home soon enough
