    What a beautiful spot and young Hayley summed it up so well near the end when she said, "That's mother nature doing this Not like in a hot tub sitting in a motel." 🙂 Loved it. 😍

    I just put my book down to watch this clip and strangely enough my book is called An Outback Life by Mary Groves, all based on her life in Mataranka!
    We went to Limmen NP in 2017, while exploring NT and QLD for 3 months in a 1997 Prado! It was the best car - I think the older ones are better, probably because they didn’t cost a lot haha and we were more inclined to take it anywhere and not panic about the scratches etc. Our Prado definitely eat the it’s worth over the years we had it! Great clip once again, make sure you go to Tomato Island and Lorrella Springs while in Limmen NP - both amazing!

      @GoingOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a amazing part of Australia around Limmen NP, making sure you check out next week's video. I am loving it. I think you're right about the older vehicles, I just didn't think after all the punishment of our travels the old patrol could take any more. But I'm reconsidering our plans to get rid of it for something new

      Thanks Brent. The plan was that our punishing lap would completely destroy the 30 year old patrol, but it's handled it so good I'm rethinking the original plan. I thought we would no longer be able to trust it in remote areas, but I think I trust it more than ever now.

      Thanks Darrel, we had more than 1 issue in Kakadu. It was a strange mix of beauty, sacred places, remote and still certain people who are not accustomed to travelling real remote. Hard to explain , but I think having a capital city only a couple of hours away is why we are having a problem.

    Hi guys, you hear this all the time from me...great episode again!. That first spot you found...I found it by accident. Such a nice little area out of the way. I remember it, from all the butterflies, that congregate at this spot. Literally 100's of them. There's also another spot just, out of Katherine, which is the same. The hot springs are a must on any traveller's journey. Magical place!. Thanks guys!

    Awesome video again, I know I say it a lot but it’s the honest truth. No paid sponsorship etc, truely independent. I think you need to crack a jack and sit with the old GQ and apologise. She’s been great to you and the family getting you around the country and your thinking of upgrading lol it’s a tough one, your partially the inspiration to me buying my 05 GUTD42 series 4 wagon, simplicity and reliability at its best. I believe you said this to me some time ago, it’ll get you home no matter what falls off or happens, we’ll that’s not just my GU that’s also the GQ. My two cents worth, stick with what you got, unless there’s major underlaying issues, I won’t mention the power steering pump and sink some $ into getting her back up to standard again. Be far cheaper then buying a new truck.
    As my great Pa once said, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. You’ll have a lot more spare coin for diesel and getting away and who knows, maybe a part 2 big lap of Australia. I would say look at a GUTD42 but Covid is playing havoc with the used car market currently. I know we all eventually upgrade items but going overland wouldn’t be the same with out the trusty stead of the GQ. A compromise would be a GU 🙂 sounds like not long till your home, wonder how long it’ll be before your all climbing the walls to get out again travelling lol. Belated Merry Christmas and happy new year to you both and the kids. Keep up the good work and stay safe.

    • @GoingOverland
      @GoingOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Conelli, the original idea was that a punishing lap in a 30 year old patrol would probably be the end of her and we would have to buy something new and start over. But now I'm thinking there is a lot of life still in her. I mean everything can be rebuilt and fixed.
      And not hearing many people saying how good their new 4wd is in remote areas fully loaded. So I'm going through the thought process of should we keep the patrol and keep it simple, how long will she last and what is there new on the market that is actually a upgrade from the coil sprung, disk brakes, solid Axel patrol?

      I have to agree Don. My LandCruiser ute is 20 years old now. I thought about replacing it, however, I think it's a case of " the devil you know". Simple to work on and generally easier to maintain. Stick with the old girl Adam..

    • @GoingOverland
      @GoingOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Don. I always had it in mind that after a big lap, and the worst conditions we would not be able to trust a 30 year old 4x4 in remote travel. But the patrol has been so good and I'm definitely reconsidering the original plan

    • @donmacdonald5863

      @@GoingOverland I don't think you can trust newer vehicles.... all the electronic stuff that can just stop for no good reason. And then you need specialised equipment just to do basic repairs. We did a full engine rebuild on my HIlux with just a basic tool kit in the garage at home....

    If there’s no underlying body and chassis issues when you get back ( rust, fatigue cracks) and you still can get trim bits keep the old girl. My old D2 is coming to that time where a decision is going to be have to made. Trim parts are becoming obsolete or very difficult to obtain.

    Yo Adam, what's the deal with the water bra cover when you enter the water? The water would still come up underneath the radiator fan. What am I missing ?

    • @GoingOverland
      @GoingOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That was on our Cape York trip. With lots of water crossings. The idea is that the water does push through fast into the radiator fan and the fan blades bend with the water pressure into the radiator. Also keeps mud and debris out of radiator, alternator, starter motor. Back in the day people would tie up the fan or remove the belts.

    The irony of complaining of people drowning out the natural sounds of nature while talking over the top of the waterfall sounds. LOL - made me laugh - and I absolutely get what you are saying though. When you are there the last thing you want is people noises.
    Honestly, what do you reckon my chances are with my 2002 Jackaroo? Similar trailer, similar travel plans and similar attitude to budget and function. I have no time or appetite for the "look at me" scene.
