They preferred the middle roll 👍🏻 do you have problem with mites ?

Mites come and go depending on moisture and the food. I typically cut back on feeding if I see a lot of them in my bins.

What happen with the keter container?

I still have it outside but I have not found a way to keep the deer away so they have been eating everything I plant. I have been reading about fishing line so I might try that next. It has been frustrating as it seems like it is a buffet for them.
Right now I have some mint growing in the bin as I know they won't eat it but I don't need that much mint so I'll have to make sure I get some other plants in there.

Sorry to hear that happened, what type of food and how big where the rolls? I have done the toilet paper rolls as well and they worked but are pretty small for the amount of food my household goes through.

Have you had any problems with worms escaping through the holes you have on the bin? I made up 5 worm bins last weekend, each one had between 60-90 worms in each. I probably have about a couple dozen escape

I might have one or two that escape at first but typically they stay in the bin. I think they realize it is very dry outside and if they left they would dry up nearly right away on the floor.
If you do have issues with this you could use a light on to keep them in the bin.

It’s a bit easier to have less bins but higher populated bins. The Red wrigglers seem to enjoy being all ganged up on each other. Uncle Jim’s Worm Farm has some excellent videos to starting bins. The paperwork they sent me even noted that if adding worms to the yard or garden, they don’t recommend spreading them out (singley) but dropping them in at least handfuls. I think it stresses the worms when they aren’t together, and stressed worms will not reproduce or work the compost as well and will try to escape (noted by climbing on the sides-you will see lots of casting on the sides). If you notice a lot of climbing, try to figure out what is bothering the worms. I notice it will happen if the compost gets too warm or hot, especially if it’s anaerobic. You can notice worse smells when it’s anaerobic also, that smell can be from anaerobic bacteria and also worms dying.

Chris VH if you watch the comparison video of shredded vs blended carrots you will notice that the worms choose to stay together more than expected. You always get the renegade worms that go out on their own, but they return to the group quickly.

Do you think wrapping like this helps with keeping fruit flies down?
