Shout out to my Filipino brothers from your malay cousin in Malaysia. It is awesome that you guys still use the word lantaka which is an old name for cannons in malay (Rentaka/lantaka/pataka/petaka) nowadays we call them Meriam. We call those calcium carbide cannon Meriam Buluh (Bamboo Cannon) or Meriam Karbaid.

That canon reminds me of my late brother. Among the children in our barangay he makes the loudest canon out from the bamboo we have in our farm. Missing the province life, simple yet there’s contentment and happiness. I hope the city kids get to experience the things we had when we were kids, making toys out from scratch, pure joy!

Any flammable liquid like kerosene, gasoline, diesel, acetone, lacquer thinner will do. In case of kerosene and diesel, you need to heat it up first and allow to form vapor and give an air blow to spread the vapor inside the bamboo before litting it up to produce the "boom".

Thank you Kulas for this video. Those were the days. Precious childhood memories for me. I remember one day before September 1 (start of Ber month), we need to find a heavy duty bamboo in our neighborhood for our Lantaka or Canyon. I remember putting some empty sardines or milk cans as our canon balls then we hit the mirror of a car near our place and we left the area immediately hahaha.. Back fire is a way of life also.. burned eyebrows and eye lashes were part of it. hahaha. We were using gas (kerosene) or kalburo (calcium carbide) as fuel. Once, we have broken Lantaka, we source out empty sardines (young's town) cans in our garbage area as our back up Lantaka. We need to have a lantaka until New year. I am in my 40's now but I can still make a Lantaka made of Bamboo or empty cans. I would love to share the knowledge to the next generation.😊👍

Kulas, the way they made the lantaka is wrong. They should have cut the kawayan days before and made it dry for a week till it turn brown. That way it is not prone to break easily than the freshly cut green one. Also get the part that is closer to the ground because it is thicker. Kalburo is good but lighter fluid or kerosene is ok too. Gasoline will do but it will break the bamboo. Master kaayo ko ana Kulas.

Oh my God, I thought this lantaka thing no longer existed. I remembered when I was a kid in our neighbourhood that was late 70s (in Mandaue, Cebu) my big brothers and their male friends used to play lantaka every Christmas. One thing I couldn’t forget was that my brothers’ team made a prank placing an empty tin can and blew the lantaka, out fly the tin can which made our counterpart (enemy neighbours across the compound) jumped out from their seats like cats ran away like literally one whole family, hehehehe it was hilarious! This brings a lot of good memories. Thanks for posting.

Hello You all nice peoples please read this because later You see infornation what they dont want me to tell. I can only use email anymore.
Hello Everyvody THIS IS MESSAGE FROM OUR LOVING GOD AND JESUS❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏. Can you contact me please❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏
Our God is the God of love's judgment and justice❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏. After manmade the first sin: God was forced to remove people from paradise otherwise the paradise would have destroyed. That's why the. .d...l. is here because the first people experienced it. Same for everyone. God gives you the freedom to choose. God does not want anyones us to go hell. The judgment of hell is the same as sin will eventually lead to. The meaning of life is love❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏. We must accept Jesus because we received grace through this. Jesus is coming very very soon❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏. God gives the last warnings to the people. Thats why the forest's are burning all over the world. There are many Christians here in the Philippines so there is no forest fire.
HELLO HOW ARE YOU? THIS WORLD IS GOING TO VERY BAD DIRECTION RIGHT NOW. IM SHOCKED HOW BAD EVERYTHING HAVE WENT. I HOPE YOU CONTACT ME. YOU NEED THIS WiSDOM AND I KNOW SO MUCH MORE. WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING QUICKLY. I ONLY WANT TO TELL THE TRUTH. I HAVE SEND THIS SO MANY WORLDWIDE.
GOD GAVE ME ALL THIS WISDOM❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🙏. THINK ABOUT THIS PLEASE: HOW THOSE BIRDS WOULD HAVE SURVIVED WITHOUT WINGS? WHY BERRIES AND FRUITS TASTE SO GOOD? I SEND ONLY THESE TWO QUESTIONS TO EVOLUTION PROFESSOR AND NOTHING CAME BACK. THEY ALSO SAY EVOLUTION PUT CAMOFLASH TO ANIMALS TO SURVIVE. WHY THEN PANTHER EXAMPLE IS BLACK. MEAPY THEY SAY ITS BLACK BECAUSE ITS A NIGHT TIME HUNTER. I DONT REMEMBER IS IT NIGHT TIME HUNTER OR NOT BUT IF ITS: HOW WOULD EVOLUTION KNOW WITHOUT INTELLIGENCE TO PUT BLACK COLOR? HOW WOULD EVOLUTION KNOW TO PUT RABBIT A WHITE COLOR WHEN IS WINTER AND BROWN COLOR WHEN ITS SUMMER WITHOUT INTELLIGENCE? THEY PROBABLY SAY EVOLUTION DEVELOPS ANIMALS WHERE THEY LIVE: WHY THEN WHALES HAVE LUNGS AND FISHES GILLS? AND THEY ALSO SAY LEGS DEVELOP TO FISHES AND IT WAS FROG OR SOMETHING FINALLY:
THEY BRAKE THEIR OWN LOGIC WHEN THEY SAY THAT! AND HOW ABOUT FISH GILLS? FISH GILLS SHOULD ALSO TURN INTO LUNGS. ITS INPOSSIBLE AND THEY BRAKE THEIR OWN LOGIC AGAIN! AND HOW ABOUT PLANTS: THEY SAY PLANTS DEVELOPED IN THE SEA! HOW THOSE PLANTS AND TREES THEN CAME TO LAND? I HEARD SOMEBODY OF THOSE EVOLUTION THEORIST TOLD: PLANTS AND TREES WALKED. HOW COULD THE EVOLUTION ALSO DEVELOP FOOD TO ANIMALS, LIKE BERRIES AND PLANTS WITHOUT INTELLIGENCE. EVOLUTION DONT HAVE INTELLIGENCE BUT IT DEVELOP EVERYTHING WHAT WE, ANIMALS AND THIS WORLD NEED! ONLY GOD CAN CREATE LIFE AND EVERYTHING WHAT WE NEED❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🙏. I WAS SO SICK AND I WAS SURE IM GOING TO DIE BUT AFTER MY MOTHER SAW THREE VISIONS OF JESUS AND ONE ANGEL VISION MY HEALTH CAME BACK VERY FASTLY❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🙏. e..l is running now and try to destroy us all! hell is real and I saw how terrible those horrible e...s are and dont give. US ANY MERCY. GOD AND JESUS WANT TO SAVE US😥❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🙏. AFTER I STARTED TALK I HAVE LOST SO MANY FRIENDS😥. THIS IS HOW YOU CAN CALCULATE evolution is a lie. AFTER I SEND THIS TO DAVID ATTENBOROUGH I LOST MY RIGHTS
TO GO IN FACEBOOK AND I CANT COMMENT TO TH-cam TOO. FINNISH NEWSPAPERS ALSO BLOCK MY STORIES. THOSE HOW BELIEVE IN EVOLUTION TELL WE ARE ABOUT 2-2.5 MILLION YEAR OLD. THEN EXPLAIN THIS THEY ALSO TELL EARTH HAD 252 MILLION PEOPLE WHEN WE START TO CALCULATE OUR TIME 2019 YEARS AGO. HOW THEY CAN KNOW THAT ITS INPOSSIBLE! DOUBLE THAT AMOUNT EXAMPLE EVERY 100 YEAR. YOU ARE GONNA SEE ITS INPOSSIBLE. AND THIS IS ONLY DOUBLING THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE. MY FATHER TEACHED IN SCHOOL AND CALCULATED THIS VERY QUICKLY: 252X10POTENSSIIN6X2POTENSSIIN20=2,64×10POTENSSIIN14 250 MILLION 500 1000 2000 4000 8000 16000 32000 64000 128000 256000 512000 1024000 2048000 4096000 8192000 16384000 32768000 65536000 131072000
AND WHEN WE TAKE 131072000MILLION÷EARTHS POPULATION 7530 MILLION=17406,6 TIMES HIGHER WHAT WE HAVE NOW. THOSE EVOLUTIONIST LIE TO US. e..l is working and try to destroy. us. PUT SMALL NUMBER EXAMPLE 10000 AND CALCULATE HOW THAT EXBLODES. OVER A THOUSAND SCIENTIST HAVE APPEALED THAT THEY NO LONGER BELIEVE IN THE THEORY OF EVOLUTION. THE LIST JUST GROWS ALL THE TIME. YOU CAN FIND THAT VIDEO ON TH-cam:
      th-cam.com/video/xQgOjHsMEeE/w-d-xo.html
WITHOUT GODS GUIDANCE I WOULD NEVER UNDERSTAND CALCULATE THIS. I PRAY AND HOPE YOU SHARE THIS OTHER PEOPLE TOO❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🙏. PLEASE READ ISAIAH 24 IN THE BIBLE BECAUSE ITS HAPPENING NOW! THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: IN MARK 13, JESUS TELLS WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE HE COMES. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY♥♥♥♥♥♥♥🙏.

Carbide "bombs" using tin cans were popular in Trinidad at Christmas time. However we used kerosene in the bamboo canons. A flame was applied to the back end of the canon to heat the kerosene and create the explosive vapours for the initial shots. Continued use sustained the required heat. The user blows into the hole to expel CO2 and provide O2 for each subsequent shot until he becomes tired of annoying the neighbours.

This is awesome hahaha. For those who may be wondering what exactly is causing the explosion, it's a gas called Acetylene. Water reacts with calcium carbide, and the resulting gas is acetylene. Yes, the same acetylene that is used in Oxy-Acetylene torches for welding, brazing, and cutting. Fun fact: 19th and early 20th Century miners used calcium carbide headlamps to light the way in mineshafts since acetylene burns so bright. Downside was....it was dangerous as shit. Lol

We Malays call it Meriam Buluh or bamboo cannon. Rentaka is the name of one of the old Malacca Sultanate big cannons. Lantaka is quite similiar sounding as rentaka.
We have used palm trunks, even long steel pipes as cannons. After putting carbaid and water, we plug the small hole for awhile to make more of the gas, unplug it, put fire to it and KABOOOOMMMM!
We usually play it at the end of the fasting month of Ramadhan and it is more fun if the boys at other villages join in. We can hear the sound oh these meriam buluh all over the place.

"It's like utot!" hahahah. I'm glad I discovered your vlog. It's so funny and shows what being Filipino is really like from a foreigner's point of view. Your sense of humor is so infectious and very, very Filipino. Keep it up Kulas!

idk but me & my friends were just talking about this bamboo cannon because we were having a vacation at cebu philippines and we all see that kids had this type of (lantaka) and we were all shocked when this youtube algorithm helped me find these things just right in front of my laptop so we enjoyed watching this :))

Totally cool for showcasing one of my childhood memories! No Pinoy New Year celebration is complete without our local bazooka esp in the province!! I so miss my childhood hometown of Roxas, Or. Mindoro! Thank you Kulas! You sure had fun! 😂 Try making the soda CAN-non if you haven’t already!
