The Micklem bridle isn't designed to be done up tightly. All of the buckles you have to do up are meant to just touch the horses skin. If you look on the original video made by the person who invented the bridle they explain that all of the spots where the bridle gets done up are just meant to be flush with the skin. So you shouldn't be tightening up the drop noseband as it isn't designed for that for future reference :)
Fletch is a lucky boy to have such a kind owner who is so sensitive to his needs. Beautiful horse too! Really enjoying your videos. Thanks!! BTW you look like you're riding a lot better than you think you are - it really can be hard to get back into the swing of things after a break. For me, the start of every ski season: "OMG why the heck can't I ski for the life of me?" but by the end of the season it's def back to normal haha. I think it's not just practice, but its also the strength as well. When you are't using the muscles they weaken and its suprising how much harder something is when you don't have the muscles you had before!
you guys look amazing for being irritated of work so long! love watching you two work together and seeing how you are working with Fletch with both of you coming back into work ❤️ he's honestly looking like he hasn't been out of work long as he's working so well with you! seeing how fab you are now you will look even more amazing in a short while ❤️
Aw, your horse is cute! Yay, stretchy trot. He's doing well for a racehorse you said likes to be forward. :) I'm feeling the same right now. Riding dressage again after a two year break due to surgery and life taking over and I feel like a literal sack of potatoes in the saddle, especially since I'm riding a 4 year old greenbean who is a quite a little wiggle worm. OMG is that a whippet? love them
The saddle should be up further on the horse. And the girth should be closer to the front legs. The girth where you had it was basically under his stomach
Hi! I just found your channel, and I absolutely love it (earned a new subscriber)! Also for 10 years old, your saddle looks really good! Love your horse, too!
Love this video! You and fletch are such a wonderful team :) P.s. I know you didn't specifically ask but if you do need to get a knew helmet for the Aus regulation change I adore my Casco and it wasn't ridiculously expensive! Xxx
The reason your micklem is awkward to fit is that it is too high!! The back strap should sit just in the curve of the horses cheekbone. Try going one hole longer on the cheekpieces. Also the bottom strap should not be tight, you need at least one finger in there for it to function properly. (I had mine fitted the same as yours when I first got it but my saddled refitted it for me and it's so much better now!!)
Love how you tack up and take such care every step. To be honest I was very surprised to hear you say your horse is opening his mouth because the noseband is too loose. It's a sign of something else, hes communicating something to you. You are a very friendly knowledgeable rider, hope you study this symptom and find a solution other that thightening the mouth shut. Looking forward to watch more videos.
My little Stock Horse has a habit of walking off nce I get on or trotting off while I'm getting on so I have to face him into a fence to get on and after that I do what you do, just making him stand there for 5 or so minutes.
I've always wondered why fletch has an odd looking splotch on one (can't remember which one) of his hindquarters. Would you mind telling me what it is as I am interested/confused. Loved the video!!
I have the same problem with the horses I ride, where they just start walking right away, but they're trot horses so I'm really not surprised. They're just used to that the minute someone takes their reigns it's go time :----p
Anastasia Papazaxaria there are many different ways that you can learn but what I learned is to get a fast trot than pull your out side leg back and give a medium kick
start from a regular trot not a fast one, when a horse tries to start a canter from a really fast trot it's actually harder for their legs to physically start up the canter 👌🏻
my opinion on the bridle that you used is i feel like the noseband pushes on the bit, so when you have contact on them, your putting even more tension on the bit. just my opinion, but i think the bridle does look cool!
+Nancy Wong the micklem bridle is designed a bit differently from your standard, I know that strap looks like a throat latch but is actually more like a nose band, that is why it is done up more tightly
Han is right and I have recently purchased a Micklem bridle and it says in the instructions that when you do up both of the straps their should be no air between the strap and the horse , however you should be able to fit 2 fingers between the straps and the horse😄
I'm not trying to be rude just giving you a tip...if you turn your thumbs up when you ride the horse tends to want to go into a better frame and accept the bit and the contact. My horse and I always struggled with her getting into a frame and once I did this, she began to want to accept the bit and look really nice!
It is not a throat latch. The micklem bridle is designed differently than the standard english bridle. That strap may look like a throat latch but it is actually a nose band so it should be pretty tight.
It's good to tack up from both sides Mine are used to it so if a starter takes them for a course the horse won't get spooked and I've also been getting down and on the horse of both sides since they were young again do that if starters ride them the horse won't get scared
Can you just stop moaning. At least she made the vide, but she didn't make it just to see criticizing her every two seconds. If you don't like her video, then make your own and then we'll see how you do!!!
I wish everyone would leave the horses Natural, they look so ulgy with shaved bodies and cut mains/tail but I don't know the rules for English riders:(
+Taylor Soukup I can't speak for others but I personally don't clip fletch for the look it is for function(that's why I don't clip his legs). He sweats up a lot more than the avg horse so I really have to maintain his coat or he gets irritated skin. I don't mind how it looks but that's just my point of view!
Do I know how to tack up a horse? Yes. Do I still procrastinate watching these videos? Very much indeed XD
Han is a highlighter
God is a pencil
God drew the world
and Han made it brighter!!
I honestly love how honest you are and how you are taking your time with him and how you put his matters and needs into thought! ❤️
The Micklem bridle isn't designed to be done up tightly. All of the buckles you have to do up are meant to just touch the horses skin. Alice Elvidge is
Alice Elvidge I know the throut lash is meant to be quite loose

This video made me so happy! You have become one of my favorites to watch! You are so down to earth! Please keep making more!
Your horse is so calm and patient and gorgeous!!!
Same thing with the boots! I feel if I put a front then back something will go wrong! It's always 2 front then 2 back.
+Abigail & Dream haha I'm not the only weird one!
you guys look amazing for being irritated of work so long! love watching you two work together and seeing how you are working with Fletch with both of you coming back into work ❤️ he's honestly looking like he hasn't been out of work long as he's working so well with you! seeing how fab you are now you will look even more amazing in a short while ❤️

I have the same saddle, i bought it for over a year ago, almost two years. I bought mine in Norway

I just love how wool half pads look! 😍

+kyra Nortje ❤️
Can I just say something... U site soooo good to the canter! (Very satisfying! Lol)
The saddle should be up further on the horse. And the girth should be closer to the front legs. The girth where you had it was basically under his stomach

I love watching these kinds of videos! I have just changed my channel to something more like this 😋
Wow you're a great rider!
I love your horse and your videos. Subscribed 😊💖
Fletch is such a nice mover and I admire your position😍 love the video!!
+Erin F. Naw thank you 😊
Such a cute pair! More videos❤️
I have the same problem with the horses I ride, where they just start walking right away, but they're trot horses so I'm really not surprised. They're just used to that the minute someone takes their reigns it's go time :----p
Your breeches are so beautiful!! 😍😍 Where did you get them?
hes so cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Isn't that exercise you were doing called turn on the forehand, where the front legs move but the hind legs stay still? Love your video btw!
+Brig Duskhurricane thank you!! Turn on the quarters :) turn on the forehand is when you pivot off the front legs and move the hind legs.
You guys at beautiful together
OMG ILYSM YOU ARE GOALS
Ugh I ride in that saddle and it is so comfortable
I LOVE dressage so bad!I have a question.Yesterday I had my first lesson and I am wondering how do you start the canter?
Anastasia Papazaxaria I highly recommend the channel yourridingsucess not saying this channel isn't helpful but it really helped me x
Have a nice steady trot and then put your outside leg back and inside leg on the girth and squeeze you should never kick
Love this!!
Fletcher is so pretty
posted on my bday! xxx
omg where did u get that halter from cause i have the same one that i got from hiscocks
Omg yes i am so OCD with my saddle blankets and half pads 🤣lol
A classy equestrian
Beutiful horse 🐎
Uh oh she is tacking up the horse from the right! Only riders will know what I’m saying.
thats the labia logo :D
you horse is beauty
I luv your vid but please can you post more 😞
He's gorgeous
How many hh is fletch? he looks huge, i own a 16 hh horse and i can just see his back, i'm short i'm about 5,4
What brand are those gloves?
isn't the saddle a little too far back?
my opinion on the bridle that you used is i feel like the noseband pushes on the bit, so when you have contact on them, your putting even more tension on the bit. just my opinion, but i think the bridle does look cool!
haha, i have that boot supersion too XD
Whenever I hear Fletch's name I just think of Holby City 😂
Where can I get a pair of those gloves?
Does anyone else think the throat latch is too tight
+Nancy Wong the micklem bridle is designed a bit differently from your standard, I know that strap looks like a throat latch but is actually more like a nose band, that is why it is done up more tightly
No
Han is right and I have recently purchased a Micklem bridle and it says in the instructions that when you do up both of the straps their should be no air between the strap and the horse , however you should be able to fit 2 fingers between the straps and the horse😄
how old do you have to be to get a horse or Pony
Why is the coat different colors like that
Where do you agist?
I can see what you mean by being rusty,as the video went on you were moving much nicer in the saddle
good
We just had are race horse got put down and he would follow us everywhere
Is it ok to let your horse eat before every riding? Just asking
Lorenza Fiori Only hay i guess, but i think it’s better give 30 minutes before riding (srry for my bad english🤦🏽♀️)
I have an ex race horse called Tycoon, and everytime I mount she likes to walk forward I am gtrying to get her out of it.
What type of horse is flech ?
+Caitlin Davis he is a tb
Unbeliveable that your gloves from roeckl has lasted for 2 years 😱mine lasted for 9 months😡
Please post
If the bit is not supposed to hurt him why is the horse keeping opening his mouth
Well miss 'know it all' if you know so much, do it yourself -_-
I'm not trying to be rude just giving you a tip...if you turn your thumbs up when you ride the horse tends to want to go into a better frame and accept the bit and the contact. My horse and I always struggled with her getting into a frame and once I did this, she began to want to accept the bit and look really nice!
+applesandoranges244 yeh I get crazy moterbike hands sometimes 😂 defs working on it!
Look at the
I subbed
Sounds good to me XP
The throatlatch is way to tight, I feel badly for him.
Paula Westgaard trust me that doesn't hurt him at all
Paula Westgaard she is an experienced rider... she knows what’s she’s doing
It is not a throat latch. The micklem bridle is designed differently than the standard english bridle. That strap may look like a throat latch but it is actually a nose band so it should be pretty tight.
She is actually experienced
my horse looks exactly like mine from the side omg go see @kingalakate on instagram to see what i'm talking about :)
do you guys know were i can get a new born horse
hihihi you prounance it like sjo-ke-muul-ler
Its stockholm :)
0:34
Cheek piece is way too tight
It’s actually not a cheek piece, it’s a noseband, the micklem bridles don’t have a throat lash
Han Equestrian oh sorry my mistake. Love your videos
All good :)
She was tacking up from the wrong side...
There is no law that you have to tack up on a specific side. She can tack up on any side.
It’s good to tack up on both side so if your at a show or some where you can only tack up on 1 side you and your horse will be used to it
It's good to tack up from both sides
Mine are used to it so if a starter takes them for a course the horse won't get spooked and I've also been getting down and on the horse of both sides since they were young again do that if starters ride them the horse won't get scared
Can you just stop moaning. At least she made the vide, but she didn't make it just to see criticizing her every two seconds. If you don't like her video, then make your own and then we'll see how you do!!!

He sweats up a lot more than the avg horse so I really have to maintain his coat or he gets irritated skin. I don't mind how it looks but that's just my point of view!
That makes sense, thankyouu :)
yeah if you don't clip a horse the sweat could freeze on their skin in the winter.
To tight you going to kill your horse your going to choke it
Not a throat lash its a noseband... it’s a micklem bridle so it probably looks different than the standard bridles you have seen before
Your throat lash is way to tight
Hey, it’s actually not a throat lash it’s part of the noseband of the micklem bridle
It’s not a throat lash
