I tried a sample of the Eau de Parfum and it smelled like a sugary pine tree on my skin so it’s great for the fall and winter. I also paired it with a strong jasmine floral fragrance and it was lovely. However, the fragrance went noseblind on me and I can’t smell it on my skin after about two hours. I really want to try the Extrait de Parfum and see how that meshes with my chemistry.
Extrait is the only way to go. I bought the first one and no one could smell it. I upgraded my fragrance for $130 more, it’s worth it. ♥️♥️♥️ at times I mix it with Nolita and OMG I ECHO!!!!!

I get so many compliments when wearing the 540. I think the extrait version smells more like an orange blossom to me (is that a thing?) and the regular version smells more like sugar to me.

You know, I went into this fragrance with low expectations. I am the type of person that doesn't gravitate to things just because they are popular. I very much like to go against the grain, to be stubborn lol... it took me a long time to try this, but I just couldn't resist. I heard so many amazing explanations, of what this fragrance is like. I didn't play around - I got a 3ml sample of BR540, and a 2ml sample of BR540 Extrait. I first sprayed both on papers. At first, meh. They both were nice, the extrait definitely had more presence right off the bat. I laid those fragrant papers down..went to work for the night. I came back to smell them the next morning, a fully dried down scent of deliciousness, decadence, a little sweet, the depth, I don't know what it was about the second time I smelled these. It cast a spell. I was head over heels in love. Never in my life, have a tried a sample of a fragrance..especially at this price point, where I quickly searched for what bottle size I wanted, and planning a full bottle purchase. Never happened before Baccarat. I think I'll purchase original Baccarat first, but the Extrait will be next purchase after. Both are simply gorgeous.. Ladies, this will do a number on your confidence levels. I feel sexy, powerful, goddess level when I'm wearing this and dressed nice. Another first, with a fragrance.. plenty of perfumes out there make me feel beautiful, but this is on a level all its own..and I really can't describe what it is about it. This fragrance just...blows my mind. In my eyes, the HYPE is real, I will never be without it
I wear the extrait and like you mentioned, I go nose blind to it within 30 minutes. That said, hours later I will still get compliments and questions. I’ve had so many people say omg you smell so good! Including perfect strangers- it’s been a bit crazy and unexpected. I guess I just don’t get to enjoy it the way others do! I might have to spray my husband to see what it smells like hours later!
You really did a great review of these two! Thank you! I just bought my first bottle of BR540 EdP. And I can’t even describe how much I love it. But I can hardly smell it after one hour. I always spray 2 times on my neck, 1 spray on my chest and 1 spray on my wrist. And after 1-1,5 h I can’t smell it. That makes me a bit disappointed. But people ask me about my perfume so I guess like you said, probably people around me can smell it even if I cannot.
Hi, so I actually think I know the more likely problem you might be having. You are spraying it on your neck and as you are constantly smelling it for an hour - your nose gets used to it. It doesn't mean others though won't be able to smell you. There isn't a great deal you can do about this besides not spray on neck but I think that is a key area. I like to spray a fair bit, neck included , and find if I spray some on clothes (not loads as it stains over time), as I move througout the day I will get whiffs of it. Hope this helps :)

I have a full bottle of the EDP and a decant of the extrait from MFK’s wardrobe set. They are both really amazing. Over the past year, I’ve accumulated multiple dupes of BR540 (which I love), but I’m not satisfied. I was content for a while, but now, I just need a full bottle of the extrait. I own both and I will not repurchase the extrait because the parfum lasts longer. I prefer the scent of the extrait tho. Both fragrances are so good I'm going to get the bigger bottle of the parfum when I finish the one I already have 😊
Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait is the only fragrance I own, I wear it every day, all year round, to any occasion there is. When I went in a niche fragrance store to smell it for the first time, I was just curious and was looking for that signature fragrance to buy. And so I smelled EDP and did not get the hype at all. I did not smell much to begin with, although it should be this intense fragrance. So, the girl who helped me suggested Extrait version and that changed the game for me. We ended up going around the shop, smelling a lot of different beautiful fragrances for at least an hour, but the Extrait stuck with me and when I kept returning and already comparing every other fragrance to it, I purchased my first bottle. Recently, I went in to repurchase it and tried the EDP again, still can hardly smell anything, does nothing for me. I feel like I am kind of addicted to it, when I run out, I miss it and run to the store to get a new one. My clothes, scarves, coats.. everything carries it. I leave a trail everywhere I go: the car seats, people's homes, hairdressers etc. I have noticed I am getting nose blind, so just one tiny, tiny spray is allowed, haha.

I was anosmic to Baccarat EDP for weeks then suddenly I tried it again and I could smell it. I bought the travel set just because I always end up having to decant my perfumes when I travel so it was great that they have the travel set. I bought both the EDP and extrait travel set.

A great way to shop for perfumes is to smell coffee beans in between testing scents. The coffee beans help reset your olfactory bulbs.

Loved your review! When I initially wore this (I have the extrait) I was not impressed. However, I received multiple compliments and the scent lasted my entire 10-hr work shift. My second time wearing it I started liking it, it’s a very subtle scent which I love.
I was the exact same. I own the extrait and was extremely underwhelmed when i first smelled it. But the same day i got it i got stopped and complimented on it. Now its grown on me and i like it a lot
Baccarat Rouge 540 smells like when you’re at the carnival and they’re making cotton candy and the machine is still spinning the sugar and there’s heat coming from the machine… It is truly the most incredibly delicious smell

There's a clone from a company I found on Etsy called Squirtz Aromatics... Their perfumer is amazing and he makes a clone for both the original and the Extrait... I'd say to check them out!
I tried Baccarat Rouge 540............and I just couldn't. I don't completely understand the popularity. Delina is my all time favorite. I can't get enough of Delina. I've tried to love 540 and the Extrait. I just can't love them. Now, Gentle Fluidity, I love.
People want it, just like people are after Louis Vuitton. They want it for label and names, nothing special. I don’t want to smell like a basic woman, I like to stand out. The most I’ll pay for it is $95.
Erin, BR540 may be popular amongst us perfumistas, but it’s distribution is still limited. Unless a perfume is sold in local department stores, not everyone will know about it. Where I live in the suburbs of Boston, none of the malls carry it. You have to make a trip into the city to smell it, which not everyone is willing to do. Of course, there are those who will blind buy without a care, but considering the price it may give some pause. This fragrance on me is light and I can wear it in the heat.
I had to order mine thru a 3rd party forwarding freight system. And it's a blind buy- all I've ever bought before were dupes. (Still have love for them but I'm eager to try the real deal)
I received samples from MFK last week of both and others, and that is what I thought when I compared them, on my skin I do get spicyness in the extrait, hints of cinnamon/clove, and it is so much deeper than the EDP. Oud and Oud satin mood are also lovely!
I have recently started expanding my fragrance collection by adding Niche brands and haven't decided on my favorite yet...I have the Aqua Universalis which I truly adore as an everyday scent and I did get the Rouge 540 EDP in the hair mist so I can't say I have been able to get the full effect of the beautiful scent but I do love it as a hair mist and use it after each hair wash. The lasting power on the hair mist is amazing, lasts 2 - 3 days.

After hearing you speak of it, I was surprised to realize I had a sample vial with my little stash of samples. I cannot remember how I acquired it though. I do love the scent. This will be a purchase at some point, very likely the EdP. Soon, I will be purchasing D&G The One from Ulta. Prior, I had purchased the EdP travel spray and will make this part of my collection soon.

It's not that it "works well with your chemistry" if you can't smell it anymore. It means your brain has shut off the scent because it's always there. Kind of like working in a smelly factory or the scent of your own room, good or bad. Your brain adjusts to the constant scent. If you leave for a while and come back, the scents return for a little bit.
With BR540 Extrait I feel georgeous I so love myself. It's woodsy it's spicy like ginger but I love it. It;s heady but it doesn;t give headache. Bestest rich and dark notes so far

Thank you so much, Erin! I bought the edp and got a sample of the extrait. I adore the EDP. Once I've really dived into all the loveliness of the edp and know it well, I'll try the extrait. I don't want to confuse my nose. Preliminary spritzes onto paper tell me the edp is brighter (as you say) but also more complex. To me the extrait seems heavier and more one dimensional. I can see men preferring the extrait because the vanilla sugar isn't as prominent and the woods are more up front. We will see. I love your fragrance reviews!!!
Hi, Erin! Based on your reviews I was intrigued to try BR540! Unfortunately we do not have any nearby stores that carry this fragrance. I was super excited to discover that I could order a sample directly from MFK. I received the sample and was absolutely intoxicated with this fragrance. The sample was Amazing! I could not get enough of this scent. I was even more delighted to discover the very next week that Saks Fifth Avenue had a promotion on beauty and fragrance to save $50 on a purchase above $250. I ordered the fragrance Immediately! Unfortunately I was disappointed once my actual BR540 arrived. The first spray smelled faintly of alcohol then then nothing at all. I was so confused. I did however get a couple of faint whiffs here and there later that night. I thought maybe it was a fluke. I have tried the fragrance 3 more times and still initially get a faint alcohol smell then turns into a medicinal smell like that of a dentist office. I have read this in other reviews but couldn’t imagine what they meant until I smelled it myself. After a couple of hours the heart notes do smell nice again but the fragrance is still more on the faint side opposed to the sample. Do you have any idea why the sample and actual perfume would be so different? I Really want the smell from the sample. It was Delicious and Heavenly. I’m not sure whether to keep or return. I would be grateful for any advice. Thanks so much!
In my experience, I get noise blind to it after a couple of hours but others can smell it on me. I get wafts of it later in the day and it is present on my skin :) I did not want to like it since it is so popular... but I do like it :) I use perfumes more for myself and enjoy the way they make me feel. Compliments are nice but they also mean that the scent is more mass appealing, and I like to smell more unique. I can not deny BR540 is a cult classic and started something special in the world of fragrances.

Yes and no! I say yes because I did a blind buy and at first spray I was like this is not worth the hype AT ALL!! Then after it settled it becomes IRRESISTIBLE!! It is one of those fragrances that you have to be patient with. I say no because it may not be something you may like. But that’s my opinion! I LOVE THIS PERFUME SO MUCH!

This lady has amazing color eyes. Very attractive eyes. Anyways its expensive but if you buy like even smallest bottle and it takes 1 spray with EDP or EDT for like 3 or 4 so you use more to achive same smell power its not money savings.
I'm glad to hear you saying, anyone can wear any fragrance, I get so annoyed by people and brands saying a perfume is "for women" most of the perfumes I wear are advertised for women, yet they wear well on me, for example givency l'interdit intense, Dior poison and penhaligons clandestine Clara, loving brands like Tom ford that have more of a wear what you like attitude (his new tuberose nue is delicious, smells so close to homegrown tuberose!).

I really wanted to love this perfume. I saw it in michelle phan’s recent video so i was really intrigued. I went to bloomingdales and wore both on each wrist the entire day. My boyfriend said it smelled nice, but the price didn’t justify it. and parents said it smelled like skunk. I will definitely give it props, when i went to sleep and woke up the next day, the smell still stayed! Might give it another try in the future..

I own both and I will not repurchase the extrait because the parfum lasts longer. I prefer the scent of the extrait tho. Both fragrances are so good I'm going to get the bigger bottle of the parfum when I finish the one I already have 😊
Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait is the only fragrance I own, I wear it every day, all year round, to any occasion there is. When I went in a niche fragrance store to smell it for the first time, I was just curious and was looking for that signature fragrance to buy. And so I smelled EDP and did not get the hype at all. I did not smell much to begin with, although it should be this intense fragrance. So, the girl who helped me suggested Extrait version and that changed the game for me. We ended up going around the shop, smelling a lot of different beautiful fragrances for at least an hour, but the Extrait stuck with me and when I kept returning and already comparing every other fragrance to it, I purchased my first bottle. Recently, I went in to repurchase it and tried the EDP again, still can hardly smell anything, does nothing for me. I feel like I am kind of addicted to it, when I run out, I miss it and run to the store to get a new one. My clothes, scarves, coats.. everything carries it. I leave a trail everywhere I go: the car seats, people's homes, hairdressers etc. I have noticed I am getting nose blind, so just one tiny, tiny spray is allowed, haha.
How much exactly have you spent on this Niche fragrance??

I was anosmic to Baccarat EDP for weeks then suddenly I tried it again and I could smell it. I bought the travel set just because I always end up having to decant my perfumes when I travel so it was great that they have the travel set. I bought both the EDP and extrait travel set.

A great way to shop for perfumes is to smell coffee beans in between testing scents. The coffee beans help reset your olfactory bulbs.

Loved your review! When I initially wore this (I have the extrait) I was not impressed. However, I received multiple compliments and the scent lasted my entire 10-hr work shift. My second time wearing it I started liking it, it’s a very subtle scent which I love.
I was the exact same. I own the extrait and was extremely underwhelmed when i first smelled it. But the same day i got it i got stopped and complimented on it. Now its grown on me and i like it a lot

Baccarat Rouge 540 smells like when you’re at the carnival and they’re making cotton candy and the machine is still spinning the sugar and there’s heat coming from the machine… It is truly the most incredibly delicious smell

There's a clone from a company I found on Etsy called Squirtz Aromatics... Their perfumer is amazing and he makes a clone for both the original and the Extrait... I'd say to check them out!

People want it, just like people are after Louis Vuitton. They want it for label and names, nothing special. I don’t want to smell like a basic woman, I like to stand out. The most I’ll pay for it is $95.

Erin, BR540 may be popular amongst us perfumistas, but it’s distribution is still limited. Unless a perfume is sold in local department stores, not everyone will know about it. Where I live in the suburbs of Boston, none of the malls carry it. You have to make a trip into the city to smell it, which not everyone is willing to do. Of course, there are those who will blind buy without a care, but considering the price it may give some pause. This fragrance on me is light and I can wear it in the heat.

I had to order mine thru a 3rd party forwarding freight system. And it's a blind buy- all I've ever bought before were dupes. (Still have love for them but I'm eager to try the real deal)
I received samples from MFK last week of both and others, and that is what I thought when I compared them, on my skin I do get spicyness in the extrait, hints of cinnamon/clove, and it is so much deeper than the EDP. Oud and Oud satin mood are also lovely!
I bought Edp and Extrait and trully love it. 💕💕Silk mood and Satin mood are also recommended 💕 I love MFK products

I have recently started expanding my fragrance collection by adding Niche brands and haven't decided on my favorite yet...I have the Aqua Universalis which I truly adore as an everyday scent and I did get the Rouge 540 EDP in the hair mist so I can't say I have been able to get the full effect of the beautiful scent but I do love it as a hair mist and use it after each hair wash. The lasting power on the hair mist is amazing, lasts 2 - 3 days.

After hearing you speak of it, I was surprised to realize I had a sample vial with my little stash of samples. I cannot remember how I acquired it though. I do love the scent. This will be a purchase at some point, very likely the EdP. Soon, I will be purchasing D&G The One from Ulta. Prior, I had purchased the EdP travel spray and will make this part of my collection soon.

This fragrance is my ABSOLUTE favorite. LADIES mix it with Bond No. 9 Madison Square Park
It's not that it "works well with your chemistry" if you can't smell it anymore. It means your brain has shut off the scent because it's always there. Kind of like working in a smelly factory or the scent of your own room, good or bad. Your brain adjusts to the constant scent. If you leave for a while and come back, the scents return for a little bit.
@old man strength the red bottle (extrait) has almond, clear one(edp) does not. You’re confused.

It has to be the BKR extrait. The best in my opinion.
With BR540 Extrait I feel georgeous I so love myself. It's woodsy it's spicy like ginger but I love it. It;s heady but it doesn;t give headache. Bestest rich and dark notes so far

Thank you so much, Erin! I bought the edp and got a sample of the extrait. I adore the EDP. Once I've really dived into all the loveliness of the edp and know it well, I'll try the extrait. I don't want to confuse my nose. Preliminary spritzes onto paper tell me the edp is brighter (as you say) but also more complex. To me the extrait seems heavier and more one dimensional. I can see men preferring the extrait because the vanilla sugar isn't as prominent and the woods are more up front. We will see. I love your fragrance reviews!!!

Hi, Erin! Based on your reviews I was intrigued to try BR540! Unfortunately we do not have any nearby stores that carry this fragrance. I was super excited to discover that I could order a sample directly from MFK. I received the sample and was absolutely intoxicated with this fragrance. The sample was Amazing! I could not get enough of this scent. I was even more delighted to discover the very next week that Saks Fifth Avenue had a promotion on beauty and fragrance to save $50 on a purchase above $250. I ordered the fragrance Immediately! Unfortunately I was disappointed once my actual BR540 arrived. The first spray smelled faintly of alcohol then then nothing at all. I was so confused. I did however get a couple of faint whiffs here and there later that night. I thought maybe it was a fluke. I have tried the fragrance 3 more times and still initially get a faint alcohol smell then turns into a medicinal smell like that of a dentist office. I have read this in other reviews but couldn’t imagine what they meant until I smelled it myself. After a couple of hours the heart notes do smell nice again but the fragrance is still more on the faint side opposed to the sample. Do you have any idea why the sample and actual perfume would be so different? I Really want the smell from the sample. It was Delicious and Heavenly. I’m not sure whether to keep or return. I would be grateful for any advice. Thanks so much!

It's a classic. So many clones. And might I say, you are beautiful.
In my experience, I get noise blind to it after a couple of hours but others can smell it on me. I get wafts of it later in the day and it is present on my skin :)
I did not want to like it since it is so popular... but I do like it :) I use perfumes more for myself and enjoy the way they make me feel. Compliments are nice but they also mean that the scent is more mass appealing, and I like to smell more unique.
I can not deny BR540 is a cult classic and started something special in the world of fragrances.
I tried the tester and fell in love, so I bought the EDP online, they sent me the more expensive extrait by mistake.....I don't know how to feel about it, I do like the extrait, but it's not the original edp lol

Yes and no! I say yes because I did a blind buy and at first spray I was like this is not worth the hype AT ALL!! Then after it settled it becomes IRRESISTIBLE!! It is one of those fragrances that you have to be patient with. I say no because it may not be something you may like. But that’s my opinion! I LOVE THIS PERFUME SO MUCH!
Love this fragrance so much I also got the hair mist,when I run out of the regular I have to get the red bottle it’s so much better and so much more potent whenever I wear this it drives everyone around me crazy 😜 best fragrance ever

This lady has amazing color eyes. Very attractive eyes. Anyways its expensive but if you buy like even smallest bottle and it takes 1 spray with EDP or EDT for like 3 or 4 so you use more to achive same smell power its not money savings.

I'm glad to hear you saying, anyone can wear any fragrance, I get so annoyed by people and brands saying a perfume is "for women" most of the perfumes I wear are advertised for women, yet they wear well on me, for example givency l'interdit intense, Dior poison and penhaligons clandestine Clara, loving brands like Tom ford that have more of a wear what you like attitude (his new tuberose nue is delicious, smells so close to homegrown tuberose!).
I been wearing the white bottle & I get so many compliments everywhere I go, however I feel like I can barely smell it maybe because I’m a perfume nut I love perfume I didn’t know the difference between the two until your site so I used the code to buy the red bottle so thank you for that I can’t wait until it comes in, So I can see for myself the difference . I find that the extrait has a Tobacco scent to it. I own both, but only wear the extrait in the dead of winter-the other is my summer go to!

I really wanted to love this perfume. I saw it in michelle phan’s recent video so i was really intrigued. I went to bloomingdales and wore both on each wrist the entire day. My boyfriend said it smelled nice, but the price didn’t justify it. and parents said it smelled like skunk. I will definitely give it props, when i went to sleep and woke up the next day, the smell still stayed! Might give it another try in the future..

I can't smell the EDP at all! It's so weird! The only fragrance I have that experience. I land smell and love the extrait.
