I've taken flights to 3 different cities just to watch them performed. In the latest gig, I had the opportunity to have a small talk with Martin. Damn, that gig was amazing.
Soen has the peculiarity of transmitting emotions through music. It's like music in 3D. You're not just listening to something. You also FEEL it.
Soen started out as sort of a supergroup. Drummer Martin Lopez from Opeth's heyday, singer Joel Ekelof from the Swedish pop group Willowtree, and bassist Steve DiGiorgio from Testament, Death, Iced Earth, etc.
They wanted to write music that was similar to Tool, and indeed their first album had elements of Tool's sound. DiGiorgio left Soen, and by the 2nd album Soen had developed their own sound.
The guitarist you hear in this songs solo is Canadian Cody Ford, who joined the band on their 4th abum Lotus, and gave them a bit bluesier tone. I've heard his solos described as 'David Gilmour-esque' though maybe I would go quite that far 😊
Thank you Eric for this reaction! I at least have suggested two different versions from this Swedish progressive metal band´s song "Antagonist" to you few months ago, maybe that is why the name was familiar to you🤩. I bought tickets to their gig in Helsinki in March 2024 right away, when I heard them the first time. The lead vocalist Joel Ekelöf has a great voice and I love their melancholy sound.

Trippy visuals, though like the lyrics, very melancholy.
