Marine had mentioned that she was thinking about having her sister live with her, what, almost two years ago by now? Nothing seemed to come of it so I didn't think anything new happened.
But hey, I kinda feel for Marine a bit on this. A younger sibling taking care of an older sibling does have some prickly bits but I can tell she wants her sister to be well. That's probably why she offered the room share in the first place.
So hey, an entire apartment with rent paid in exchange for house cleaning and occasional chauffeuring? You can't beat that deal on either side of the Pacific.

@@OzixiThrill My mother has a pretty similar situation going on with her sister. Although my aunt at least has some friends and can keep minimum wage jobs.... For like a few months to maybe a year at a time lol. But my family is now at a point in their lives where no one is struggling or living paycheck to paycheck anymore. At least my household. Wont snitch on myself too much but lets just say our house is the one EVERYONE comes to for family gatherings now.... So we can afford to take in a family member or two and turn their lives around. I think Marine can do that too and it's interesting to see that she is like-minded in that respect.

It seems more like one of those fights girls have in high school where they both learned that they liked the same boy and one of them couldn't handle it and got hysterical. They can get, pretty brutal; hair pulling, kicking, threats and other very harsh words. ~ *Obviously I have no idea what the fight was about or how bad it actually was.* ~
But, that's the type of thing the friendship will never recover from, and knowing your best friend can turn on you for something so small, why waste another 5+ years building another friendship?

It’s more scary then painful, though not by a large margin. I have a crippling fear of failure and letting others down to the point that instead of motivating me to try my best to avoid it, more often then not I hesitate and give up just to avoid failing. It’s hard taking that first step when it feels like that first step has to cover the distance of a canyon.

@@kylestanley7843 Often it is not an issue of ability or skill - you can be Einstein 2.0 but never get anything done or utilize said skills in any way, because trying to do so means you risk failure. Not even permanent failure or a significant setback, just failure in general.
As someone with the same crippling fear of failure, at my lowest I was but a husk of my former self. As for how bad it was, I wouldn't try cooking food that could burn, drive a car because I could get into a car accident, cross the street because I could be hit by a car, shop food that could easily go bad (e.g. melon where you gotta figure out if it is ripe or good, or grapes, or a cucumber as it could be soft and mushy, or even bananas because they could be unripe or too ripe. Many more things like that as well - milk, it could go bad. Fresh meat? Nope, what if I forgot it for a few days? and much more.)
I'd find ways to avoid work tasks that had a risk of failure, I ditched all of my friends because what if we had a falling out? What if I'd fail them when they needed me?
The scariest thing in the world for me (and many others) is trying something where there's even the tiniest risk of failure. I know you gotta fail to improve, but unfortunately that doesn't change what my brain tells me when it sends my body into overdrive because I'm trying to separate the white from the yolk, or calculate a price without the use of a calculator that explicitly tells me exactly what I pressed to arrive at my result (something which I of course quadruple-check and re-check after quadruple-checking to ensure I didn't fail).
Before I developed this fear of failure I was on track to acing life honestly. Won't go into detail about that but man shit has been brutal, and working on it is equally brutal.
At this point it's probably too much info and nobody is gonna read this anyway, but I've spent the past 6 months attempting to cook things with a high likelihood of failure and I've managed to successfully make 4 dishes that tasted great, weren't burnt or fucked up, and without huge inconsistencies between attempts and the results. Getting to the starting point of those 6 months took 5 years.

Sounds relatable. Betrayal by a close friend, getting laid off or quitting a job you had high hopes for, old friends drifting away because you don't feel like you can put yourself out there to interact. It's hard to recover from. I'm glad Marine is there for her sister though.

That sucks, I hadn't been paying close attention lately, so the last I heard I remembered something about Marine stating that since she moved away that her sister had actually gotten better, gotten a job and some friends and was starting to come out of her shell without Marine to rely on. Feel bad for her, I know it sucks when you feel like you make some life progress then things go bad again, really a rough place to be in mentally, and I hope she's able to come back out of it and give life another shot.

Deep trauma is the worst because it's like life has stopped for you while you have to watch everyone else continue. You're not even living, you're just existing. It's an extremely horrible feeling and you try to find excuses and ways of holding on to continuing with life even while feeling it's already over for you. It's whack, it really is.

One thing I really like about Marine is how well she communicates in almost every aspect. A lot of people would laugh while telling a story such as this, either out of nervousness or to soothe the audience.
The absence of this makes Marine sound very genuine and trusting her community to be able to handle heavier topics without a fuss

hearing her talk about her sister like this is making me realize it's bad everywhere for everyone and not just for me in my situation
I can empathize with her sister. I am one of those people who have a couple online friends though, mainly from highschool. Don't hang out much though. Don't really watch Marine and only occasionally look at a clip or 2 so I don't know if she has shared anything else about her and her situation, but I hope that she can get some help to get the ball rolling again and can get to a good place in life again as well as work through her trauma. Marine is a good person for lending a hand. Not a lot of people would bother, even if they are family, and would just write her off as this or that. Good luck to her.

My case isn't exactly as bad as her sister's, but it's not far off, I also have extreme social anxiety and have been having significant time moving forward to meet social standards. Marine's sister is so lucky to have someone as caring and loving as Marine.

Personally speaking, what saved me from my personal hell was getting a busy customer service job. That job was a shock to my system, especially as I was coming from being a shut in for almost a year. The volume of sheer amount of interactions every shift really helped to bring out my inner self, which I was never really able to do
yeah, i think having a job that forces you to speak to people like cashier, barista, and stuff is a good start to try getting back on the track. those are easy to apply as well.
my family run a grocery store at home, and if i get the chance to stay at my home (meaning im not in university), i'd be the shopkeeper. i feel like i'm the most confident when i'm doing my job. sort of like a pride to me. it helps me stay sane since i have zero friends to hang out, not even online friends to chat.
but still, that doesn't change the fact i hardly have anyone to call as a friend. but at least it helped me a bit! now i don't feel as nauseous as i used to when i try to talk with people.

I worked at a small storage facility for a number of years. One of our clients was a fairly young TV actress (early 20s) who seemed pretty down-to-earth, and always had her “assistant” with her whenever she came in.
I never asked directly because it’s super rude to pry, but I chatted with them a few times, and my best interpretation is that they’ve been really close friends since childhood and the actress had her career take off very suddenly when she got her first steady role, and she was currently essentially bankrolling her friend so they could just hang out and travel together. Realistically probably not a permanent arrangement, but seemed really wholesome.
(For anyone speculating, the vibe seemed way off for a romantic relationship; I highly highly doubt they were a couple. But definitely not a normal business/professional relationship either.)
Once again, I am happy to know the girls are getting paid well enough.
Marine is such a nice sister. But man, I really hope her sister can get some help to get over her trauma; I've never been in that situation so I can't say how bad it is, but as someone who lost a parent to divorce I can say that the loss of any loved one is traumatic and needs to be worked through.

I'm in my early 30s and I have no friends IRL or on the internet. If you are like her sister it is difficult to know how to make friends. The few times I have tried to go to social activities as an adult I either failed or got bullied out of doing it.

as a person who was like this in their mid-20s, now in their 30s, the best way i found out to make friends was to develop my own hobbies and interests, and then go do them with others. all the friends i have now are from taking my hobbies and finding clubs (both in and out of university) to do said hobbies socially.
for example, i have been into Japanese culture and language since i was 9yo, and so by time i was in my mid-20s, i was lonely, friendless, and desperate, but also had a pool of knowledge about Japan and some language skill. i decided to join my university’s Japanese Culture club. art and reading are also some of my hobbies, and that came naturally with the nature of Japanese Art within the culture and the vast library that is Japanese literature, including manga. but i have also sought out non-Japanese related clubs for art and reading, both online and locally.
i already had hobbies at that point, but if you’re someone who doesn’t have hobbies, i would look into how to develop a new hobby. there are resources out there like that ~
and then once you’ve found an/some interest(s), find a club online or locally that’s related to your interest(s).
I'm not gonna tell you to just go out and try again cuz you're right, there's no way for me to truly understand your circumstances
But if you ever do run into something in your life that inspires you to seek new friends, then I hope you can muster the courage to try again.

It's really tough to be an adult introvert with little to no friends. The main way to make friends as an adult is to get into a hobby or a club, but thats not easy for most introverts, especially asocial ones, to go out and do on their own, so you just end up stuck until an extrovert/friend group adopts you, or you eventually work up the courage to do so on your own.

But her sister said no. She's very comfortable at home taking care of her dad. Marine on the other hand feels lonely and depressed because of her throat problem. You see Marine is the one who needs her sister. Her sister can cook, clean and drive she's not useless.

I feel for both of them. Marine for basicly taking care of her sister. And i feel for her sister because i know what is feels like to be like that. It's not that severe but i can imagine how it would be. I hope she can learn to be a little social.

That is a serious trauma indeed, if it led to her not even having online friends. If this was America, she would probably be recommended to go for therapy.

I feel bad for her. I understand her fear as I am somewhat the same. I'm 29 this year and have only recently stopped allowing myself to think like that.
I hope she recovers before she finds herself stuck and develops a fear of interacting with people like I did.
