EU will extend their nuclear umbrella. France and UK already have about 400/500 nukes. It could very well be that Poland and other nations will follow. Don't be surprised that Ukraine will take this route too. They have the knowledge from the USSR time frame. They have the technology. And they might have the will to do it.
Ukraine won't even try and build their own nukes. For starters, they don't have plutonium or uranium, which means they would need to source from elsewhere. They also don't have the refineries to refine the plutonium or uranium. They don't have the money or infrastructure to store nuclear weapons, never mind the capability of launching them. They would also need satellites to launch and track the nuke for a precision strike, which they don't have the capability of doing.
@@chriswarr3676 They absolutely do have both. They ran the largest nuclear power plants for decades. They don't need a satellite to launch a nuke. Ever heard of Davy Crocket? Or the suitcase nukes?
@@ghostindamachine Ukraine doesn't have nukes! A nuclear POWER plant isn't the same as a nuclear weapon. And whether you need satellites or not to launch nukes isn't the point. Ukraine doesn't have the means to produce the materials you need for a nuclear weapon or the launch silos. Ukraine gave up the nuclear weapons that was on it's territory in 1991 because they didn't belong to Ukraine, they belonged to Russia. Also, there was the Budapest memorandum which is a declaration of the state sovereignty of Ukraine in 1990 that stated Ukraine would not accept, acquire, or produce nuclear weapons, and it's government declared on 24th October 1991 that Ukraine would be a non-nuclear weapon state.
This isn't realistic. Ukraine's civilian nuclear infrastructure, some of which is under occupation, can't be immediately turned to creating the material needed for nuclear weapons. It takes time, during which Russia can strike and prevent this as they have the artillery & airpower advantage. The other point, there's no real strategic need for nuclear proliferation to other NATO countries while the UK and France are part of the alliance. It may be an idea that sounds politically attractive and possibly some in Eastern Europe will talk about it, but it's a fallacy, because once you have some nukes (enough to guarantee strikes against a handful of major targets), more nukes don't make any real difference. The whole nuclear arms race between the US & USSR during the Cold War was ridiculous for this very reason.

However, Europe leaders continued to drag their heels on defence spending until Putin forced their hands while they continued to seek every opportunity to get into the pockets of large US corporations(do you recall the recent fine of $3 billion against Google?). One would think any deal that Ukraine would except would have to be with a security guarantee such as NATO membership without that there’s nothing in it for Ukraine 🇺🇦
We didn't honour the security guarantee given when they surrendered their nuclear weapons
The problem with that is you would need the absolute certainty that both sides were on board. Any cross border strikes would risk initiating an Article 5 response. NATO membership could only come once you are certain both sides agree on secure borders. There would need to be some clever security guarantees short of that.
Just like Trump's Doha agreement for Afghanistan. Afghanistan got nothing; the Taliban got 5,000 imprisoned terrorists. THANKS MAGA!

It will be to my liking, and most thinking europeans as well.
@@andyharpist2938no one cares if it's to your liking, and I doubt it will be to most European countries liking.
EU will extend their nuclear umbrella. France and UK already have about 400/500 nukes. It could very well be that Poland and other nations will follow. Don't be surprised that Ukraine will take this route too. They have the knowledge from the USSR time frame. They have the technology. And they might have the will to do it.
The problem with that is Ukraine and money
