Hi there, thank you for the new video. I always look forward to them. However, please do not feel pressure to produce. Take the time you need to get well and feel better. Very sorry to hear you haven't been well. Your hat looks beautiful. I'd like it with the felt inside. It gives it just the shape it needs. Please take care and be safe. Stephanie from California

I think adding the felted bit helped the wobble on the edge for sure :) you did great! Now you and Nutella can both wear one on your walk

I think the waviness and puffiness is a symptom of using a bigger hook; tighter stitches but more of them might have been the answer. Perhaps blocking, ironing and starching could crisp up the line? Or supporting it with a more rigid felt? The size is better, though the other one is so cute!

First off take care of yourself! We will still be here if you have to take sick days!! Would much rather have you healthy!!
The tam looks lovely and I like it better with the felting inside.
Take care of yourself and don’t over do!

About your hairstyling efforts, I suggest looking up Bernadette Banner on TH-cam. She's a mid-Victorian enthusiast who styles her hair in your desired fashion and offers a tutorial for it.

When you had both on your couch and said "is it time to crochet something?", both clearly had that look, "is crochet a new game?" 🤣🤣
They are so cute, but it but must take so much attention

You could always make it less floppy by using some starch in the water with which you block your tam. I very much enjoyed your video 😊

I have a bobbin lace hat that I inherited from my grandmother, that is similar to a boater style hat. The brim is completely stiffened with starch. So you can do quite a lot with starch, depending on how much you use!

make sure you always see in your ends really well when you do a magic loop! in scarred for life because i used it on a granny square scarf and they all broke and had to be sewn closed again 😅

I just made a beret and after I washed it I stretched it out with my hands a little and let dry flat. Didn’t need a dinner plate, but that is a really good tip I might use on the next one lol.
Don’t worry about making videos if you’re not feeling well. Let Nutella do her job and take care of you. I love rewatching your videos anyway 💕

I like the idea of using the felt to support the shape. Mine is 35cm in diameter and green and white and I wear it like a giant beret.

Ive crocheted a few tam o shanters, and the circle measurement I usually aim for is around 11.5 inch to 12 inch or around 40cm and just decrease to my actual head size from that point. Also I generally use a 5mm crochet hook.

A hair receiver! I had a small collection of them back in my twenties. Also a few tortoiseshell combs and hair ornaments.
Nice tam. The first one looked cute, I thought-decorative rather than practical. The larger one is a better fit. Running a wire through the outside row would whip those ruffles into submission! Don't know how authentic that would be, though...

  • @sekaihatsu

Great comeback! If you have cardboard you can recycle, a circle to go on the inside of a damp tam may help if dry into a less wavy circle. I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better. While it's still cold out, my mom recommends wearing a cotton or wool hat after showering so you don't catch cold. Cotton is my go to during the winter, and it's worked for me. Blow dry and style as usual.

I think sitting it a little further back on your head might help. steam blocking on an ironing board might help get rid of some of the waviness too. I love this redemption, and I hope you're feeling even better soon

Gibson girl tip from another straight haired lady: you need texture. Dry shampoo, braiding wet hair and letting it air dry, or curlers.

I think both the wavey edge and the felted sweater one look great. I've seen tams with a very wavey edge and then some that are more round and bulkier. So it is probably down to personal preference

So glad you gave it another go! I always appreciate how your channel shows the not-quite-perfect results of your efforts. I think that the felted liner inside looks better than without. Have you tried adding a second felted layer to see the effect? The only other suggestion I have might be to make the felt liner a tiny bit smaller than the tam, so the edge stitches can still wrap around it naturally.

I definitely think the new tam looks better with the structure of the felt. I think it might look even better with a second felt circle in there 🤔 Hate that you were sick, glad you're feeling better! You were soooo close to winning yarn chicken, but I couldn't tell the difference between the 2 yarns. Great job!

I do like the added structure the felted lining gave, but both would look equally great, I think. Especially with your hair done up, and the rest of the ensemble.

Whenever I think I’m about to run out of wool, I find myself working faster to get to the end before the wool runs out! How daft - but I wonder how many others do the same?

I crochet those kinds of hats, have made many of them over the years. No pattern, just round and round with a double crochet, and switch colors as I feel. They have to be 12 Inches across. But I actually wear them on my head, not on top of my head. Is that some British way of wearing it? I pull mine down over my ears, and then style it by tugging it a bit sideways. What's the point of wearing a knit hat, if it's not even going to keep you warm?

  • @simplyannadee
    @simplyannadee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Sorry to hear that you were ill, and I hope you recover fully soon! I must have missed this in the first video - are the Edwardian tams not sized by the interior circumference going around your head rather than sitting on top of your hair? I always thought they were the same as berets. The colors look lovely together and I bet Nutella loved having company!

You are going to need some pads to add to your hair. LBCC Historical on Etsy has some great ones that you can use to pad out your hair and give it the support your hat needs.

Not sure if you’re wearing it right. The ribbed bottom should cling to your head to hold it on.Looks like you’re just flopping it on your head. This is the first time I don’t see it working for you.😊(you asked for honesty) Maybe the look you’re going for is the pinned on hat…not the practical.
