Pretty awesome looking place looks way different to what I’m used to seeing in OC. Pretty picturesque the nature looks so beautiful. 🌄Rolling thru the curbs with the clouds was pretty intense. God bless Jayman🫡

You're correct. That area has seen better days. I remember going up there in the early 1980s and that was the place to be. The restaurants and shops were busy, everything looked crisp and fresh. There was even a Hilton hotel there. I used to tell people that my idea of camping in the mountains was staying at the Lake Arrowhead Hilton. But I went up there a while back and, like you, found the place to feel a little sad. I'm not sure why. People still go to the mountains. Maybe they just need to freshen that area to breathe some life back into it.

My 1st time there & kinda depressing. I'm sure there was a hay day but definitely isn't now. Was shocked to see an old exterior Mc Donald's tho...lol

@HEYMANWITHJAYMAN Definitely. I had almost forgotten about that McDonald's. The modern interior doesn't really match the retro exterior, though.

I like the retro style McDonalds. The outside deck seating is a great view of the lake!

I have a house up there, about 10 mins from this shopping center. Couple things I've noticed over the 20 years is maintenance surges there. Seems like they'll let things go for longer than usual THEN repair/refurb. The weather (winter) takes it toll on the exteriors quickly.
Regardless, it almost always seems busy. In the summer they have concerts in the stage area..cover/tribute bands.

I love the contradiction of the order kiosks as you walk in and the closed down drive-thru window. McDonalds was the last fast food chain to install drive-thru's as they wanted people to walk into the stores and be greeted (customer service) AND someone who walks in would order more than someone in a drive thru.
Yeah, Lake Arrowhead has seen better days, it probably doesn't help that you have to drive off the main highway (just a very short distance) to get to it. It needs a revamp of the whole place. Its odd that Big Bear seems to stay quite active and its farther down the road, but there's more to do there than in Lake Arrowhead.

The kiosks are for Mc Donalds to sell you more that what you really want without personal contact now. That village does need a re vamp, it's in my opinion beat up. But i bet it had its hay day in the 80s 90s

Cool video. I don’t remember ever going to Lake Arrowhead, maybe I did as a kid… but I’ve definitely been to Big Bear.
How do you decide where you go for your videos?

Live up here, lake is privately owned, there was a public beach decades ago, severe winter weather 2 years ago tore up everything under 8 feet of snow! You could buy a house here for 150k 10 years ago, now there 500k and up!

I bet the prices have sky rocketed. A friend bought 1 a liitle ways away from Arrowhead for 200k. Went to a market up there that roof collapsed and re built. Nice market too now

Boy, am I shocked! It’s so dead now🥺. It used to be a happening place back in the day. You did not see so many empty spaces/store fronts. Sad.

I bet its hay day must of been in the 80s 90s to the 2000s. Nice area to be kinda dumpy at least the Village area was

I've been going up to Lake Arrowhead fairly regularly for the last 20 or so years. The village (and other surrounding areas such as Blue Jay) is definitely not what it used to be. It was already in decline in the 2010s, then the pandemic hit and didn't help matters.
Also, it feels like there are a lot less permanent residents than there used to be - lots of 2nd homes and vacation rentals.

The soul and fun has been completely drained from McDonalds. Sad…

Yes! They look like a prison inside most of them these days. Mainly the hey Grey interior walled 1s

They tried to appeal to everyone and serve everything, rather than focus on doing a few things correctly. I'm old enough to remember when they had a menu about as short as In-N-Out Burger's menu. Those order kiosks may be saving money on labor, but they make for a 'sterile' reception when you walk in the door, and they degrade the customer service aspect of any business that installs them.

How they were built in 1970-1980, pretty much all had a Basement which was all Freezers and a employee break room that never gets used, worked there.

@@robertdavis5714 i remember seeing Mc Donald's having basements then when they them tear down for a modern Mc Donald's on the same site no basment.
