I agree on ASO being the better buy right now. I live in Academy territory and I can tell you, it’s an extremely popular company already and they just have a lot more growth potential. They plan on expanding rapidly starting in 2022 (not sure if you read on that). Ever since they hired the former Footlocker CEO, he’s done a great job of improving the company both carefully and exponentially. So in the end, Dicks is the better company right now, but Academy has a lot more growth potential and thus I see their stock more valuable in the long run.

I appreciate your comment! They definitely have more room to expand and provide competition. I like what I've seen from the CEO. I had honestly never heard of Academy until 2020 and I think there's a lot of potential for growth in the long run as well. Thanks for commenting!

Here’s another piece of info you may like in regards to their CEO. Ken Hicks originally retired from Footlocker and later joined Academy in 2018. He’s been changing things up for the better since

In the Midwest, my town has had Academy for several years. Only large outdoors store in the city. Just picked up some shares this morning after some reddit DD. They'll be the largest gun retailer in the American south for years to come- at a time when more and more people are buying firearms ;)

Do you have a date on when the 6 months will be up?

Hey Htown Connect! Good question. That would be beginning of April since the IPO was October 2nd I believe. Lock up periods can also end early. I didn't hear any news on that, but I will do an update video if I find new info. I do have a new video on ASO if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/HVjnTfUNG70/w-d-xo.html

At the time of this comment:
ROA is about the same. Total debt/assets is higher for ASO (48 vs 42). Dicks has a higher PE (18 vs 9.1). The dividend is there, sure. However the ROA is good, I'd rather them reinvest it. DKS returns 10% of their cash in dividends. I would think ASO is poised for better growth by reinvesting that cash into the business.

You bring up great points! I like both, but I didn't invest in DKS yet because there are better dividend stock out there, and I couldn't pass up the growth opportunity with ASO. Have you seen my recent updates on these stocks?

@@phantomcreamer I saw the spike - my shares went up! Are you in ASO, too?

@@WealthInvestingNetwork yeah, but only 1.3% of my portfolio. CNBC just released a news clip saying it was reddit fueled. How sweet would that be!

@@phantomcreamer I see. It's possible it could be reddit fueled... But I mentioned in my most recent video on ASO and AOUT that some investors flock to companies that sell firearms when there is more fear about gun legislation in the US. But generally, the fundamentals showed the company was undervalued recently. I haven't looked at the numbers since they hit all-time highs, but I'd bet they're still undervalued right now.
