If we look at the definition of calibration it is the act of measuring sometime to see if it is within acceptable limits. If we talk about calibrating a parameter then it often also involves tuning this parameter to be within an acceptable tolerance or to change it so that the system it effects works better. So calibrating, tuning, or mapping a parameter within an ECU can be seen as the same.
