    Hi Clement
    Yes I always water right after re potting. It settles the media into place. Some say not to but I've never had any problems. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Jean,
    Lots of orchids can grow under lights! Including Oncidiums. They need a drop in temps at night to bloom, and you have to watch the bloom spike doesn't fry under the light. I would use two -four 32 watt bulbs, 4 foot shop lights are ideal. Grow the plants close to the bulbs as you can with out any thing touching. I turn the greenhouse into a grow room- greenhouse in the winter with lots of lights. Darn cloudy Pacific Northwest...

    Loved the comparison of pots. Would love to find those 2nd choice plastic basket with nice holes. Easy to use a hot tool to put holes in that nice wide area to hang them. If anyone knows, please advise - will check back occasionally to see if any response. Not sure Brad answers these old posts.

    I wish this wasn’t such an old post to be able to get a look at what it looks like a couple years later. Going from such a packed wet media to a pretty dry mix. Especially from sphagnum to bark, which is much drier environment. Going from bark to sphagnum moss I don’t find as much an issue except you have to make sure you repot in around 18 months. I just find moss becomes so acidic if you do media pour through tests. My experience , maybe not others.

    Hello Brad...Nice little video. Interesting to see how you do things there in the states. I am from Mystic Ct. but have retired to Thailand. Over the past three years I have been collecting and propagating many orchid types...OMG...hahahaaa My wife and I have over 300 now of many species. My Oncidiums are all in coconut husk holders. We use chopped husk for planting and a bit of ground husk to retain moisture. Wish I could send you some pics. You could use them in your next video...All the best

    Thank you. I am waiting till spring to do my repotting. I have a few that looks like all roots. I will know at repotting time. It is too cold now. I have one that the roots wrap around the top of pot twice. They are so long. Pot is so small.

    I use 100% spagnum moss and my oncidiums roots go CRAZY for it I almost have to repot it every year. When ever I repot I typically go 2-4 inches bigger then the pot before

      @jak30341 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow so how big of a pot are you up to now? Just repotted my first oncidium the roots were packed and growing wildly out of the pot. I had to cut some just to get it into a pot and I repotted on sphagnum.

    Brad it would help if you'd get a tripod so that you don't have to try to balance the plant with one hand. Some of the sections that I wanted to see were when you went off camera because you needed to use both hands

    Thank you for the lovely video. I have what I think are two variations of Oncidium Orchids. But I am not certain. The one has a very very large elongated pseudo-bulb, and the other a much smaller pseudo-bulb. Also slightly elongated. I have inherited these two plants, so don't even know what colours the blooms are. The leaves are elongated like the orchid in your video. Please can you help me identify these Brad. Thank you. • @martindemaree647

    Hey Brad, Martin here. I recently received an Oncidium Orchid about a month ago and it smelled awesome, almost like roses. I cut the spike off yesterday b/c the flowers were spent and today I repotted it according to this video. However I did place the plant with new growth to the middle of the pot and old growth against the pot, it was in the same condition as the one in this video accept it had long roots outside the pot and in the pot. They are not as white as yours but I left them. There are a lot of them. Where is the best place for it? I have two windows in my room, one on the South wall close to the east wall and one on the east wall close to the south wall, it gets very bright in my room if all blinds are open. All other windows are on the east wall and one on the North wall. How should it face, new growth away from light or towards light? Thanks in advance.

    Here’s hoping you would reply to an old video. My question is: can I repot an Colmanara that i bought 2 months ago, 7 pseudobulbs, just finished blooming but already spiking (already 6 inches long) and is also beginning to produce 2 new growths at the edge of the pot? I don’t want to disturb the spike but TWO new growths with their roots out of the pot makes me nervous just thinking about it... help!

    hi,i just purchased an oncidium as a gift for my mother.its in bloom now,but by the looks of it,it needed to be repotted.so as i was looking at the root system..i see that all the roots on top have been cut all around the pot. i asked the florist if that would be a problem. he said its meant to be cut off because it has to grow new roots.is that true??? im just worried to repot it when its done blooming...i do have a lil hope, cuz i do see new roots emerging...

      Lori Kartowidjojo I know it's too late for your plant, but for other people :
      Lol no, they cut the roots that went out of the pot to give it a ''clean'' look and when you asked about the plant's health, they came-up with some silly excuse.
      It's not good for the plant to do what they did, but most Oncidium make new roots very easily.

      Darwin Tra it never hurts to repot it if it has been a year or two. Number one reason Orchids don't bloom is not enough light. try to increase the lighting by 10-20%
