When we talk about the pantheon of rock keyboard gods, Rick is always up there near the top. There are so many great players, but then there were players who took it to the next level. Rick, Keith Emerson, Jon Lord, Rod Argent, those kinds of guys. It's not just being able to play a zillion notes a second, it's doing it in a way that it absolutely fits and serves the music.
Heard Rick was in town, bought ticket immediately. Had not been to any concert since Anderson Bruford Wakeman & Howe ~ 1991. Lit the fire under my butt, now am looking for more great shows but Rick you are the best!
@@MichaelSheffield-ox8yd One of the greatest pieces of music ever, was that LP. Saw "Yes" in around 1972 at an outdoor concert in the Akron Ohio Rubber Bowl...weather was perfect .....think they played almost everything from their first 2 LP's..glorious show.
Besides the great arrangement and execution … I’m always amazed that artists like Rick can remember every note and … not make any mistakes. Impressive.
He is so much more than a rock musician. His classical training and amazing skills puts him at a much higher level of musician. I met him after a show in Tel Aviv.He was as friendly and down to earth as he appears in a variety of venues.
Saw Rick in his current Grumpy show last night in Brum and he played this on a synth - he was brilliant, a 2-hr+ solo show with so many songs (and jokes/stories)... what a special troubadour he is!
I doubt Rick himself is the one running this account but if it is, thank you for these videos. You're an inspiration and a huge part of the music I grew up loving and am now passing on to my own children. Thank you!
Alex, this is an official Rick Wakeman channel (100%: check video at the top of the channel page) and I presume it is administered by someone appointed to do so by Rick. I also grew up with his music and love it very much. Lately I have been practicing excerpts of King Arthur on the piano, something I hoped to do as a teenager.
Who's the man who use to sing with him for years then the woman I can not find no were there names I know most of the others Lee pomeroy well know bassist Adam his son ect and the drummer that was with him for years was all so on gas tank
Wonderful. I have just finished watching an almost 2 hour interview with him and he comes across as a lovely man, a great story teller and very, very talented.
This brings me absolute joy every time I listen. The way how Rick has taken the layers of the song, separated them, embellished them with beauty, stretched time itself with some of them, altered their texture and so much more, then beautifully laid every piece all back together in what becomes a flowing journey of a piece of music. Every time I listen it's like a daily advancement in my Musical knowledge 🤝👍🎼
Nicely done. Hadn't really listened to this chap since the mid 70s. Like the idea that he uses 19th and 20th century texts and composers for inspiration re arranging.
Ah, the endless argument among prog-heads when I was in high school: "Emerson or Wakeman?" The responses were about equal, with an occasional "Tony Banks!" (who would say he's a composer, not a keyboardist).
@@racookster Tony Banks...hahahahaha He's not even on the road, that leads to the ballpark, where Wakeman and Emerson (RIP) play. Absolutely no comparison. Banks isn't even close to being in the same league.....
@@racookster It's a real shame that Keith and Rick never collaborated on a project together ... it came close but never happened due to contractual difficulties apparently as they were great mates and never rivals ... what an incredible project that would have been x
My son flew me from Alabama to see Rick at Lincoln Cathedral. What a night!
I bet.
Shout out to Alabama
Wonderful beautiful people.
Certainly my limited experience.
Thank for a heaping helping of your hospitality Granny
Jordan.❤😊
You’re lying! There are no direct flights from Alabama to Lincoln Cathedral. I’ve checked!
One of the greatest Rock Keyboard men of all time
He and Keith, not since them has there been a pair of such gifted keyboard instrumentalists and arrangers 👏👏👏👏👏
I would vote for Wakeman as the greatest. And he doesn't just kill rock.
No argument here - True dat!
You could leave the word "rock" out, and the statement is still true

This must have been an incredible experience seeing Rick in this setting. Seems like a once in a lifetime happening.
...just finished the Beato interview........oh, Yes!
I saw him at Buxton Opera House a few years ago. Words cant express his talent, humility, Britishness, warmth. Not many like him.
To be honest, there is nobody like Rick Wakeman, and that is the case for each of us.
Heard Rick was in town, bought ticket immediately. Had not been to any concert since Anderson Bruford Wakeman & Howe ~ 1991. Lit the fire under my butt, now am looking for more great shows but Rick you are the best!
This Thanksgiving I thank God for MUSIC.
@@NotThatLittleJohnny But I could do with never hearing Lee Greenwood or "YMCA" ever again.
All the Masters of music - Lennon and McCartney, Steinman, Sergei Prokofiev, and Rick Wakeman himself of course, pure magic
I don’t know where Jim Steinman figures in any of this - unless they released a ‘Bat Out Of Hell’ inside that cathedral.
I have loved Rick Wakeman since the first time I heard him with Yes back in the early 70's! Excellent!❣
Being that I started piano lessons when I was 5, I know how difficult and challenging keyboards can be!
Saw the 'Close to the Edge' line-up live in 19 seventy whatever. Unforgettable, the concert I mean.

Loud?
@marksevel7696 in Italian "forte" is a different way of saying "bravo, bello".

In fact Pianoforte ! 😂

Rick Wakeman THE FINGERS. THE MASTER. FOREVER YES!!!🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹
thank you Sir Rick, I´been following you for the las t 50 (fifty ) years and never, ever, heard something that could dislike me
I was privileged to hear this in New Hampshire USA this summer. Sincere thanks from New England.

I can listen to him all day
he's become my favorite after watching a few interviews and performances,,,,we were spoiled in the 60's and 70's
I always knew Rick was gifted when I first started listening to him in the early 1970's, but I never realized HOW gifted.
The Author album introduced me to his work in the early 80’s. This was an artistic wonder! Thank you!

Man, when you say “all”, you really mean more than 100 releases, including studio, compilations, live, etc ?
Congrats !!!

You are a big reason why I play the piano. Thanks for sharing your incredible talent.
What a great performance !
Absolutely incredible and masterfully performed!!!!!
If someone smells fire in my neighborhood it’s just me burning my piano
chopsticks ?
😂😂😂
Geez, if everyone burned their pianos because they didn't sound as good as Wakeman's, soon there would be no more pianos.
😂
@mikem820 Don't let Mr. Wakeman find out where you are. He'll come over there to smack and trash-talk you.
I could listen to him for hours on end. so fantastic.
One of the most technically brilliant things I've seen.
Magical.

I love how Rick fit the opening vocal riff from Stevie Wonder's song "Too High" into this cover of The Beatles Eleanor Rigby. Pure genius....
Thank you for everything Rick. God bless.
After all this years you are still shining superstar. Thank you for your beautiful timeless music.
