This worked. I should note that one can use a "reference file" that is non-corrupted from the same device, so the program, "understands" and has instructions on how to fix the damage file. For example, a corrupted drone footage file from a crash. Just use a different playable working file from the same device as a reference.

Unbelievable. Been looking for a solution for this for 3 days, as my drone crashed into a building and then feel on concrete and I didn't see how that happened. Of course the gopro absolutely got ruined as well as my SOLO 3DR. Video got corrupted and I just managed to fix it!!

Thanks so much, you saved my footage! I'd filmed 12mins of a groom's speech at a wedding and the card got knocked, didnt save properly. Would have been screwed without this very calm and thorough tutorial :D
I cannot begin to thank you enough for this. I had tried at least a dozen different fixes and this is the first one that got me usable footage. The audio was garbage, but I had a backup recording that I was able to sync. You are a lifesaver.
The first option reccovered 5 mins out of an hour of footage. My Mac rejected opening the gs file in the second option because it can't check it for malicious software. This probably mostly works for shorter files on newer macs, mine's 2017. Good video overall still helpful for most people.
If you're stuck on step 2, this is what i did to get it to work:
I managed to get it to work. What I did was right click on "mac_start.command" and opened with "terminal.app (default) (2.9.5)" and from there, I managed to open it up. Hope this works for you.
this is what i got:

Thank you so much! The Video Repair Software didn’t work because my file is .MXF but merging the files did then I was able to convert it using MXF Converter... life saver!!!

This was a thoughtful, well-understod solution. Unfortunately , the software doesn't work with Ventura. If anyone knows of an update, it would be appreciated
When I try and open the gs.app file on my Mac I get an error message saying 'The application “gs.app” can’t be opened.' I've tried Show Package Contents but the version of gs that I find that way just opens Text Edit with code. Is there something I'm missing? :(

when i open gs it says missing script file....
control click on mac_start.command and hover over open with. press terminal. if you are prompted then say open.

@@Carphi2000 Try right clicking on gs, then click on show package contents, click on MacOS and then click gs. That's what worked out for me!

Same thing happened to me. The 'gs' file is much smaller than in the video. It's only 626KB.

in the videorepair folder is another application called "mac_start.command". Right-Click and open it in Terminal and run the command and it will open.

RE: SCRIPT ERROR---He clicked on "gs" file. Click on the file "mac_start.command" instead!! That one worked for me!
Thanks! I got a missing script file error, but if you drag mac_start.command onto the terminal window, it will open the gs app. then proceed as normal.

It worked good, but the video is very choppy and imovie, FCP or Davinci dont recognise it. The most interesting is that when I try to "repair" a good file, it also comes out choppy and unreadable. Any idea which settings I should try to change?

This is happening to me as well. The audio was on time but the video kept jumping or repeating. When I moved to Final Cut it turned Green. Did you figure out how to fix on your end?

for some reason after doing the scan, i try to preview the videos and it says "The document “v3_3.mov” could not be opened. This media may be damaged."
ive got a problem. when i scan the file and then open it (the repaired one) , it's only 1 second long.

I have the same problem where it couldn't open the gs file. So I opened the mac_start.command with Terminal as suggested but I get a line that says "videorepair/mac_start.command: line 5: /gs.app/Contents/MacOS/gs: No such file or directory"

I can't open my video through the application, but I open it on Finder and MPlayer successfully.

It's working for me but I had to run (mac_start.command) through the terminal and allow from privacy and security settings
My combined file is 12gb.. doesnt work. The mp4repair page showed pictures of the video, so I dont see why it wouldnt work? ;s
It only recovers the audio of my file. I have checked with several softwares to make sure that the images can also be recovered. Do you know why this could be?
My terminal is not creating a 3rd copy. it's not responding to anything i type in. it's acting like a word document.
Around 7 minutes you say that you need a non corrupt file for it to reference. If it had a non corrupt file I would be watching this video. my terminal had a bunch of stuff in it that wouldnt delete and when i put the file names in there like you did, nothing happens when i hit enter. any suggestions

for some reason when I went to merge them the file I got was wayyy smaller than the 2 files I was putting together. Both files were 31 GB so I should of ended up with a 62 gig file I thought? I got a 10.5 MB one

Guys I had the no audio problem until I converted the repaired file into another format... in my case I converted .mov to mp4 and the audio came back.

this is weird, why is it showing 2 hours left for only 58 mb, but when downloading other stuffs more than 50mb their like 10s and its done but downlaoding its video repair tool its like hours, see 5m already its just 6mb done out of 58, but downloading others its so fast, why

Got a corrupt file, after recording an entire wedding in 4K on my iPhone
The preview works fine within the app. However, if I try to open it in iMovie or DaVinci or Lightroom, they all tell me that the mp4 is not a recognizable format.
