I think this is the "least" work I've seen for a disaster save that looked so terrible. This player wasn't in a terrible spot but threw in the towel right before he could turn the war around

@5:12 the reason field hospitals are seeing more use now is not because of the manpower (well sometimes it is because of the manpower) but because of the HP buff it gives now. Yes it makes your divisions cost like 150+ IC more, but 10% more hp means 10% less equipment losses per damage dealt to your division. So the cost of field hospitals in IC per unit damage dealt breaks even when your division costs 10x more than the field hospital battalion does, and above that ratio your field hospital is just free equipment saved, free organization and free recovery rate.
I remember reading that "FH trash" and checking myself.

The way I see it, if you anticipate millions of loses in your wars, for example as the USSR, field hospital keeps your units in a fairly capable level.
So field hospital is a legit choice for majors too? I figured it'd be somewhat usable when defending with a minor, with the HP boost counted for.
Not only that, The road to 56 has more levels of experience units can get so it's more reliable than regular hoi4.
I personally use hospitals every time i can afford it to "farm" exp bonuses for units
I generally use field hospitals as a way to conserve manpower when playing as a minor nation but even when playing the soviets, ill someitmes put them in if I have equipment cause it's easier to get veteran divisions or even regular which gives a flat 25% percent buff

When I travelled the trans Siberian railway, I stayed in Omsk for a few days. It's cool. They have a statue of a man emerging from the ground, and a ski jump for a building. Not a bad place for your last stand. I have no doubt you can do it.

I believe the plane designs were so strange and the mios missing might be because they were not playing with the DLC
Good job on beating Germany on my save, I would like to give you more context. I played as Germany until 42. I was losing 1200 guns per day and every occupied territory was revolting constantly, but, I managed to push until Moscow. After that, I wondered if I could save Russia from a monstruous Germany (I could not) It’s a shame the A.I. destroyed my once beautiful Germany due to sheer incompetence, but good job either way.

@Bitt3rSteel If you want to use expert ai save you need to install expert ai mod or it will be didn't work with save file.
You can run it but expert ai feature from mod didn't apply in the game.
Bassicly expert ai make some nation 10-50x harder to deal with, if you push fast the ai instantly spawn division front of you, they get buff litterly on everything. 50% attack from all terrain, 200% production effiency etc...
The Road to 56 is expand the endgame way further, + lot of the small nation get a lot of national idea and event.
I had both mods on though
The thing is that expert ai doesn't work with r56 since it also modifies the ai itself,it's a lot that the save didn't corrupt
if this is true, you can probably use the Frontline AI Rework, its like 1gb for a mod that changes AI behavior and I run it with road to 56 and it seems to be compatible, it doesnt make the AI cheat like you said, but they actually plan good naval invasions and dont just kill themselves on frontlines that will never move for them, and they organize armies properly and shit. Makes it an actual challenge

Currently the most effective way of building fighters is adding ONE set of twin cannons in the first slot and filling the rest with HMGs. One set of cannons give a big boost to air attack for comparatively very little cost increase. Just the one set tho, more than that and it becomes too expensive
huh. i thought that all hmgs were the meta now, ik it used to be all canons. didnt know about the mixing them thing. and then for fighters, in the lower slots, self sealing and then armor?
It first was all HMGs until the last update, which buffed cannons a good bit.
As for bottom row, I believe it's self-sealing, extra tanks and armor

as someone with 20 hours in hoi4 ( thanks to you i bought it=) i cannot fathom how you are able to do these things

No seriously though: Just keep playing, try to play your games in ironman mode and atleast normal difficulty (and for the beginning use historical) and have some fun. Try to get yourself the achievements, as they usually require a total victory (atleast the ones that require skill, not luck (i am looking at you Ethiopia)) and you shall be a great leader to all nations you play.

Yes I want to see the "disaster within a disaster" save! I did have a question: How do you create those individual field marshal orders to close encirclements and tell only that order to go?
Making separate field marshal order with no faff is just Create New Frontline button -> Shift Click to create without the annoying individual army sections, then you select and Ctrl-click onto the line to assign whichever troops are nearby to assign them. Shift clicking the "Go" button and then the arrow of the plan you wish to "Go" activates only that plan.

I'm very surprised seeing this, Expert AI from what I've seen of it makes the AI actually have good divisions, and gives them significant buffs. Maybe there was some error? Either that or the player gave up right as the Allies got Germany to pull the vast majority of it's troops away.
Possible RT56 messed things up for them?
Ya Expert AI is not meant to play with anything other than Vanilla, messes it up real bad (outside of simple graphic and/or QoL mods)

Honestly the main differences in R56 are mostly after 1945-1950 (nuke upgrades, train upgrades, plane and tank upgrades, and such)
The Only thing that really has any effect are the small bits and bobs of infantry equipment upgrade (making upgrading your guns take longer)
It also changes a few minor things about the AI (mostly after 1950, but some things become chaotic, and you'll see weird stuff on unhistorical), adds more releasable nations (which slows the game down later on, even if you don't release them), and adds some event popups here and there
It also adds focuses, but on historical those shouldn't matter (some odd things may happen occasionally, but nothing affecting the war in Europe, though this isn't true after 1945)
just played chine to 1956 recenlty and yeah the tech tree is extended but in a really thin way that's mostly just upgrading eqipment almost no new equpment is added outside of "Advanded modern tank" at 1950 and the latest tech is minaturized nukes in 1954

Actually field hospitals have a good use beyond manpower conserving, war support
A fully upgraded field hospital essentially negates most of the weekly -war support from combat casualties and it’s actually a good use for countries with low manpower too since you burn less of it, definitely a good choice on defensive units that get attacked a lot
Been using it myself for a while now and the difference is huge, I basically don’t have to go above extensive conscription on any country and my war support and political power are massively improved

I played Czechoslovakia in challenging mode. It took me 12 years to cap Germany. They build competent air, your divisions actually need anti-tank, and the enemy *builds forts along the frontline*.
Fun fact: if you look closely at the soldier or tank it will go to the province that is going to or wait if is staing

Expert German A.I is actually pretty absurd, made a build where i had 6k fighters, 2000 CAS, 9,000 tanks, 240 Divisions on the German border, 72 for the coastline, 24 for the Bosporus straight(All infantry 21 Combat Width, with 5 slots of support companies, and turkey(i annexed it). I had a surplus of everything except mechanized, AA, and a small amount of support equipment. This was in June of 41', and they were actually pushing me past polish territory into Minsk, I completely lost turkey and had to retreat back into the caucuses, I was losing in the air because the Axis somehow had 9k fighters, and 4k CAS. I got naval invaded multiple times in Turkey because my navy was somehow weaker than the Kriegsmarine.
Just for reference, when I do a build like this on normal difficulty, I can usually just run it on speed 5 losing not even a single tile, just do that till 44' and then decimate the Germans with tanks and insane Breakthrough tactic encirclements.
This man managed to push from Omsk all the way to Berlin... and he managed to do it only 4 months behind schedule compared to OTL. Gotta say... very impressive indeed

TBF Expert AI is NOT compatible with Road to 56 (its not compatible with any major mod, should be played vanilla) so don't judge it from your experience in this game. The fact that it functioned well enough it beat the OP is ummm surprising to be diplomatic about it.

what nobody says, but is very important, is that higher soft attack also deals more damage to the enemy when *YOU DEFEND* , not just when you attack.
11:26 they have changed how the air works and range is king in my opinion because it affects the percentage of the airzone you cover .In other words if the circle is smaller the airzone you have a debuff if your circle is larger you have a buff and need less planes
At this point, the A-Z series seems more of a disaster than this, still both very entertaining.

When I design my planes I add in 1 slot cannons an the rest is heavy machine guns, works in single player for me.
Expert AI is not compatible with Road To 56. In fact the divisions that it makes which are META in Vanilla, are actually a detriment in Expert AI.

It's not immediately obvious but there's two different systems within the MIOs.
The majority of nodes are the ones with the purple beakers. These are applied to the equipment themselves via the create variant (like at 10:50). Whenever you get a new one of these you need to pay 5XP to create a new variant which gets the new bonus and then change the production line to start producing the new variant.
The other type of nodes are the ones with the yellow spanner. These bonuses apply to any lines that have this MIO selected on the production tab (the icon you select next to the production efficiency bar).
You can have a tank designed using the fast tank designer (so it benefits from all the purple beakers of the fast tank designer) but set the production line to the medium tank designer and benefit from all the yellow spanners on that. I don't know any specific instances where this could be useful but it is possible.
Extra fuel tanks are just worse versions of drop tanks. They do the same thing, but extra fuel tanks lowers defense. Should've gotten rid of those and kept the drop tanks. All heavy mgs are fine. But 2x quad heavy, and quad 1x light seems to work better because you get some agility back, and it's slightly cheaper to produce.
Cannons just seem to not be worth it anymore unless you're designing a template that will stay on intercept and is going to be shooting down bombers. The extra firepower is unnecessary against other fighters. And the AI doesn't seem to really build heavy bombers. So it's not an issue.

The "infantry template -number-" is what convinced me the player who sent the save was playing germany and tag switched to AI to send the save.
