Paul Revere and the Raiders - Lots of hits including "Just Like Me", "Good Thing", "Steppin' Out", "Hungry", "I'm Not Your Stepping Stone", "Indian Reservation", among others. One of my favorite bands during the 60's.
Other hit tunes-Let Me, Talk Too Much, Ups & Downs, Don't Take It So Hard, the Great Airplane Strike, Him Or Me-Who's It Gonna Be and they also did a cover of Louie Louie.
@@827dustyThe Raiders were practically regulars on "WHERE THE ACTION IS" I watched it every day Mon-Fri. The original band then was really funny then with some of their antics while performing. I just LOVED them.
You have one hell of a story. I'm so glad you were able to get straight. Great song. I've known it all my life, but didn't know it was received so negatively at the outset. Am happy to see your daughter in your reviews
Producer Terry Melcher was Doris Day's son from her first marriage. He produced The Beach Boys and many other southern California rock acts. Also oversaw recordings of Charles Manson who later had a beef with Terry. Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski were renting the house that Melcher previously lived in where Sharon and her friends were brutally murdered by the Manson family.
1966 a and I was a freshman at the University of Montana. I had kind of a flaky class with some real interesting music professors. It was called introduction to concert music. For our final grade we had to produce something that they called non-traditional musical project. So I played kicks on a slow speed on a borrowed record player and taped it with a warped out voice of me reading TS eliot's the hollow men. I got an a in that class. Was always grateful for that song: kicks just keep getting harder to find, plus TS Eliot we are the hollow men we are the stuffed men. Headpiece filled with straw alas!
Yup. Pretty meaningful lyrics. This was the first band I saw in concert at 13 years old. They were an excellent band and the lead singer was a teen heartthrob.
We saw Paul Revere and the Raiders twice! Once in Medford Oregon and once in a Crescent City California! They had lots of hits of their own but later in their career they made it into a rock show with covers of classic rock songs inserted into the shows making for a great show of like 3 hours long!
This may be one of my favorite reactions, from you (aside from the Beatles ☺️). I love your candor and look forward to many more videos. PS your daughter is adorable, and fortunate to have such an open minded and thoughtful dad. ✌️❤️
Your daughter is adorable! ~ I'm happy for your surviving your past ~ not everyone involved with drugs gets off of them. You did! and now We all get to enjoy your reactions to all the different genres you're open to listening to! Appreciate you, L33 ~ ✌💛
They had a lot of hits back then. Mark Lindsay had a great voice. 'Just Like Me', from late 65, was a real rocker for it's time. Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil wrote a lot of hit songs. There were three male/female songwriting partnerships that produced a huge number of hits in the 60's - them, Gerry Goffin and Carole King, and Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. Together they probably had over 200 songs on the charts just in the 60's alone.
I think the guitarists took a few lessons from those go-go dancers. They are having a blast! Whoever wrote the song shopped it around with no takers. I think Eric Burdon passed on it. So, yeah… you’re saying now what I’m typing. Glad you got the message! Check out Him or Me, Good Thing, and Hungry. All great songs!
Lots of bands did not play 100% live back then. Still I watched all the bands play on the variety shows. Steppenwolf, The Beatles, The Animals, etc. all played less than live sometimes.
One of the great mid to late 60s "Classic Rock" Bands. I was in grade school when these guys were popular. I liked the "Revolutionary War" era hats and costumes they wore. They had some really great songs. Great name for a Band.
Sorry you're having a lousy day. Hope things get better for you soon. Great group, Mark turned into a terrific songwriter. Once of the best pop/rock singers of the era, along with Mickey Dolenz of The Monkees. Love your random baby break! What a sweetie!
In 1966, "Kicks" was the first Top 10 hit for Paul Revere & the Raiders, who were famous for performing while dressed in American Revolutionary War soldier uniforms. Of course, in late 1963, just prior to being signed by Columbia Records, they just missed the Billboard Hot 100 with their cover of "Louie Louie". Yes really, every rock band at that time played that song....😂 Btw, their producer at the time of signing was Terry Melcher, the son of the legendary singer/actor, Doris Day. 😊 You should hear her 1940s recording of "Sentimental Journey" with the Les Brown Band. It became an anthem for World War 2 servicemen. 😊
You really need to hear Steppenwolf the song is called the pusher. Yes, they had really popular songs like magic, carpet ride and born to be wild but again you really need to listen to the pusher.
I liked Paul Revere and the Raiders "Indian Reservation- Cherokee nation", as their best song, it's a serious song about Native American Indians history and what they have been through..
I was 14 yrs old when this was released; I still have the 45 rpm record. I was surprised when I heard it was a cover-don't remember the name of the original band. They did not do well with it,and they sounded lack luster. I used to listen to Paul Revere's version over and over. Back then songs had to be less than 3 minutes long in order for radio stations to be willing to play them. You had to buy the albums for the longer versions:songs like In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida and Symphony for the Devil, etc. Later they did make exceptions for The Beatles's Hey Jude and Let It Be. Ah,those were the days, another song written by Paul McCartney,I think, for Mary Hopkin. I'll stop now.
They did 'Him Or Me (What's It Going To Be)' on this same insanely cheap set. Paper plates on strings? Anyway, the song is worth checking out. The Raiders had several hits from the mid 60s and early 70s. They were known for their stage antics which were usually silly and sometimes funny. They even hosted a TV show for brief period.
Hey Lee, Ned from Spain. Yes who gives a F what Rolling Stone thinks about anything. Revere and the Raiders were tough and played pretty hard for a pop band. Originally from Idaho they ended up in the Pacific NW in Oregon for a short period. There were a lot of really strong garage and proto punk bands in that scene. I'd love to see you react to an even tougher bunch from that area, Tacoma Washingtons " The Sonics " !! Legendary, rip snortin and raw their LP's Here Are The Sonics and Sonics Boom are both classix. See ya next time.
No need to apologize for baby break(s). As a grandpa, I rather enjoy them. Also, LSD isn't really addictive, because it's simply not very effective to do it days in a row. I knew people that did too much all at once and did themselves great harm, but addiction wasn't an issue with it, as addiction is with other drugs.
This has got to be the first anti-drug song in the rock era. Released early 1966. I can't think of anything earlier. It gets right to the point, don't it?
This group had two early hits in 1965..."Just Like Me" and "Steppin' Out". Which helped pioneer the garage rock sound and moved that sound into the mainstream. Other than that, this group was never what you would call, musical innovators.
I've seen pour river on the raiders. Live 3 times back in the day. They were known for having a lot of fun on stage and with the audience. And I'll tell you one thing anytime you will go in to see them live. And you warm to sit in the first dozen Rose or so you have to be ready for him. Jumping or sleeping or sleeping a mic in your mouth during a song and you'd better know the words. Anyway, this was one of their hits obviously. And I really think it's worth a while to react to Indian reservation. It's a song about the Cherokee nation which I think you based on what I've gotten to know about you so far would really enjoy. It's also. A little bit heavy in terms of the story that it tells and what the Cherokee nation actually went through as white people took over this country.
When your kicks just keep getting harder to find, it might be time to think to yourself, where and what the hell am I doing. I stopped all this nonsense 35 years ago because it just wasn't fun anymore. I only wish I'd stopped earlier, because I didn't realize what I'd been missing. But for those who gotta do what they gotta do, do it. You just got to be willing to pay the price, in all its forms.
I went full on with the Beatles in early 1966. But right before that I remember boys who weren't into the Beatles went for Paul Revere and the Raiders. I never saw it; I hated those pseudo Revolutionary war costumes.
PAUL REVERE had some great songs , were great musicians but with a catastrophicly bad dance routine , A recommend everybody to have a greatest hit. AS great as they come
One of the really underrated bands of the 60s.
Paul Revere and the Raiders - Lots of hits including "Just Like Me", "Good Thing", "Steppin' Out", "Hungry", "I'm Not Your Stepping Stone", "Indian Reservation", among others. One of my favorite bands during the 60's.
Apparently I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone was covered by numerous bands. I think The Monkees version is best known
@@alrivers2297 Yes, that is correct. I really like the version by Paul Revere and the Raiders, probably as much as I do the Monkees Version.
Other hit tunes-Let Me, Talk Too Much, Ups & Downs, Don't Take It So Hard, the Great Airplane Strike, Him Or Me-Who's It Gonna Be and they also did a cover of Louie Louie.
One of the first anti-drug songs that came out in the middle to late 60s.
We had the best bands and music back then ..... I miss them ..... Thank goodness for TH-cam! Today, sadly, there isn't much to listen to.
People should have explained that the uniforms were about being the answer to "the British invasion"
David, it's out there, can be hard to find, but I agree, I doubt will ever be like it was then, and I lived thru it as well!
Saw them in person way back. I’m 70 years old and hope you’re doing okay today. Never give in!
Paul Revere was his first and middle name. I loved these guys and Kicks was my favorite from them. Thanks.
Good show today. Your daughter was a plus. I too have perspective. Another song along those lines is “The Pusher,” Steppenwolf -1969
Mark Lindsey was a terrific lead singer. This group had some serious hits. And the looked great in the tight pants.
Big hit back in the day
I remember the Raiders from Dick Clarks Where The Action Is show. And I really liked Mark Lindsay. : )
Actually, it was "American Bandstand."
@@827dustyThe Raiders were practically regulars on "WHERE THE ACTION IS" I watched it every day Mon-Fri. The original band then was really funny then with some of their antics while performing. I just LOVED them.
Daddy’s girl 🙂
That stage was hopping! Watching them takes me back to childhood years so easily…
Thank you, Lee and Joel!
in 1966 they came overseas where i was stationed and performed for us..zx
They were huge in the 60's. Their later albums get overlooked but are excellent.
The one thing I miss in these old videos are the Go Go Girls dancing.
You have one hell of a story. I'm so glad you were able to get straight. Great song. I've known it all my life, but didn't know it was received so negatively at the outset. Am happy to see your daughter in your reviews
Mark Lindsay was the first popular singer in north American with long hair. He had a ponytail which you don't see in the video unfortunaty.
First concert I ever went to. Their lead guitar player was excellent
They were the house band for Dick Clark's Where The Action Is which was on M-F and perfect time for me to watch when I got home from High School.
I still listen to this one fairly often.
Looks like that was from Rowan and Martin's Laugh In. Goldie Hawn dancing!!
Nope not Goldie

What's great is that the dancers in this and yes from "Hang on Sloopy" could be great grandmas now! How time flies!
Great band from the mid and late 60s and early 70s ❤❤❤ Kicks was a big hit.
One quite unique bit of info. Paul Revere and the Raiders were formed in, wait for it, Boise, Idaho.
My band used to cover this back in the 80s. It always filled the dance floor.
This song is still in my playlist.
If you’re a drummer then the Paul Revere song you need to check out is “Let Me.” The drums in that one are what’s great about its sound
We saw Paul Revere and the Raiders twice! Once in Medford Oregon and once in a Crescent City California! They had lots of hits of their own but later in their career they made it into a rock show with covers of classic rock songs inserted into the shows making for a great show of like 3 hours long!
This was a tough tune to play correctly live. My band was Right On 5th... 6 piece out of Pittsburgh.
This may be one of my favorite reactions, from you (aside from the Beatles ☺️). I love your candor and look forward to many more videos. PS your daughter is adorable, and fortunate to have such an open minded and thoughtful dad. ✌️❤️
Lead singer Mark Lindsay's solo smash "Arizona" from 1969 was anti-hippie, which also went against the cultural grain.
Lots of good stuff from this band! And your daughter is such a cutie!
This is a bad ass tune one of my favs
I was a big fan. I saw Paul Revere and the Raiders in concert in 1966 and 1967. They were by first big concerts.
the music composers penned many songs. Also..... no apologizes needed for your cute daughter. Peace out brother
They were regulars on an afternoon show called where the action is . But judging from the background I think thiss clio is from a show called shindig

Classic.
Just Like Me and I’m Not Your Stepping Stone are their best 1-2 punch! Please consider this combo for a future video!
The lead is Mark Lindsay.
He’s groovy.
Great band !
One of my cousins was their manager back in the 60’s.
how sweet
My favorite of theirs is "Let me"
Hang in there man.
60’s and 70’s…it don’t get better🤷🏻♂️

One of the first antl-drug songs.
The Raiders' songs hold up. Catchy tunes, well produced.
"Him or Me"!!

maybe check out some reggae, Marley and such
Good song, you should give it another listen with some stereo fidelity!
'Too Much Talk, and Not Enough Action'
The I believe organ/piano player's real name was Paul Revere so the Raiders would dress in colonial uniforms.
Listen to Good Thing next. Thanks!
Typical "go - go" dancers... LOL 😊 I wanted to be that! Boots and all. I had posters on my wall. Wow memories
Paul is the clond keyboardist....mark lyndsey is the leed singer...
cutest baby lol
Pretty dopey song. No pun intended.
Indiana Reservation is a great song by them. Your daughter is adorable

Never liked the sentiment and anti substance lyrics when this came out, wasn't cool at the time. Now I as an old man I think the opposite.
A handful of Paul Revere songs much better than this one.
A song of complete hypocrisy.
You don’t need kicks you just need help girl~🩵
