- So, who is this band with the very unusual name who were formed 25 years ago and yet I've never heard of them at all? My first time hearing the super-eclectic, very cinematic and uber-unusual Sleepytime Gorilla Museum!

Definitely worth further exploration. There is no one song that captures what the band is about. There is so much difference, stylistically, from song to song. Much of their music is "challenging," but it is worth digesting. There is no other band to compare them to. Unique and wonderful!
Excellent! I look forward to digging deeper into their work!
It's a lot to take in when they're new to you I guess, but I can assure you it's worth diving into. Either on or off camera. Sleep is wrong or the Donkeyheaded adversary of humanity are good songs to start with from the previous albums. Glad to see more people react to them
Starting a list for them! Thanks for the suggestions!
Wow, this is the first time I've heard the studio cut. I've been watching TH-cam posts of live shows and love this tune. I saw them debut it in Los Angeles. Have not heard the new album. Looking forward. They are all educated musicians from prestiges schools. I think they lean to the avant garde with some elements of metal. Dan their bass player creates instruments. He created an instrument from the low strings of the piano he plays like a slide guitar. He calls it the sledgehammer dulsimer.
This is a concept album so yeah, it's one where you want the full picture the album gives you, but listening to the entire discography front-to-back (which wouldn't even take an afternoon) is the way to do it.
Been listening and seeing SGM live since the first album. Their return was well worth the wait.
They certainly intrigue me. I love unique stuff, and this was definitely unique. I'll be getting back to them for sure! Thanks for watching!
@@BleedingEdgeProg Definitely suggest checking out their live video for Angle of Repose to get a real feel for the band as performers!
Labels are difficult with SGM. I've always said avantgarde folk metal with jazz and classical elements. Worthy of your time.
I think you summed it up well, actually! I think the only thing they might have missed was some country. Then again...I'm just starting my exploration of them, so maybe I'm wrong.
There is definitely a lot of humor to them. Sleep is Wrong, Donkey Headed Advesary, or even Tonight We're Gonna Party Like It's 1997 (which may also be more...conventionally rock?). As someone mentioned, they don't really stick to one style. Sometimes not even in a single song.
Definitely sounds like a band I want to further explore. And will! Thanks for the suggestions!
Jazz? yeah... perhaps check out Tin Hat Trio. Same violinist.
