    The leave dice for future time lines is good idea

    The "strict turn order" is part of what makes the puzzle of maximizing each turn challenging and fun for us. No more luck than your standard cooperative game. Thumbs up through and through!

    When I saw how these 2 games worked. I was more excited for the Back in Time one. I'd get both if they were cheap enough but it doesn't look like it's going to be that way so I plan on just picking up the Back in Time one if I can manage to get a hold of a copy.

    Posting on the 1 year anniversary of this video: Target now has this game on 70% clearance. So you can get it for $8.99, but hurry up if you want it, since it's likely to sell out quick at that price.

    12:40 You say that the lighting bolt's your least favorite as it "lets you re-roll another die, but so what", but the re-minder card you held up at 4:30 says that you can "Re-roll any unspent *dice*" (plural), so maybe that result a little better then? I can't say if it makes the effect more fun as I haven't played the game, but at least it's not just re-roll just the one die.
    (The reminder card also uses the word "die" for a singular one, so it's not that they're using the other sometimes accepted singular/plural forms of the words, that pretty much boils down to "use any form you feel like, such as reverse what is "die"/"dice" or uses "dice" for both plural and singular.)

    I have to say at 2-players that this seems to play completely differently to how Tom reacts here. You very rarely feel like there's nothing you can do on your turn and in fact the game is too easy. You never feel like you are in danger of running out of time (the highest we have got to along the outatime track is 4) and playing with more items doesn't change the difficulty, it just extends the length of the game. We haven't played at higher player counts but i suspect that is when the game becomes more challenging as you will have more events on the board at once and you would probably get in each others way a bit more, so will reserve judgement for when we have more players.

    Ummmm the BOARD is a key component. You forgot to mention anything about it, accept the colors. So which BTTF game is better, for younger 5-8yr old kids?

      I can tell you that my son - 8 years old at the time - definitely playtested and was able to fully participate. My daughter, who was 5, was a bit young to understand.

    Except that I would argue that most people that don't play very many games do not know what cooperative games are. They think of Monopoly when people talk about games.

    Tom obviously doesn't know what clip art is. Regardless of if you like the art or not, calling it clip art is awfully ignorant of the art style.

    • @thedicetower
      @thedicetower  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What would you call it then?

    • @TheGiraffehead
      @TheGiraffehead 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thedicetower I'm glad you care enough to ask. I would consider this flat graphic art or flat illustrations. I imagine the faces are left blank as an artistic choice (though I don't know) because the style is generally representative of it's subject.
      One give away that clip-art is used is the inconsistent style (think Glory to Rome). The art on Back to the Future: Dice Through Time on the other hand is strongly cohesive through the board, cards, dice and box cover (does no one else see the Bernie Sanders' icon on the dice?). Someone obviously spent many hours working on this game to make one throughput style. And calling the artist's work clip art is an incredibly offensive thing to say.
      In a bit of irony if you look at The Dice Tower, I would venture to guess that Tom pulls together fonts, animations, music, illustrations, etc. that he likes, but pulls from a wide variety of creatives and styles (not unlike using clip art). And there is nothing wrong with eclectic tastes, but this is a detriment to building a strong brand. One result of eclectic branding is if The Dice Tower were to be sold (I'm not suggesting it would be) there would be very little brand equity beyond Tom and Zee's charismatic personalities.
      I love this channel, so I hope this comes off as a (strongly worded) helpful suggestion. Especially since I know the wrap ups are somewhat improv'd. Keep up the good fight!

      Tom did not call it clip art. He said "clip art style", which I think was fair. I guess for you, "clip art" is more about grabbing random things from random places. But for me (and perhaps Tom) it's more about a simple and "flat" style like you describe.
      It also seems that you (and perhaps others) take great offense at even a hint that something is in the "clip art" direction. That's helpful for me to know, to avoid accidentally phrasing things in a way that needlessly upsets people.

    • @TheGiraffehead
      @TheGiraffehead 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@kevinsmith9899 Clip art isn't a style. Clip art is an aquisition source, it can be found in many different styles.
      Equating something to clip art would be saying it looks like they found the art on the internet. Which may be offensive to an artist that worked hard to make one cohesive package.
      Maybe it isn't uncommon to equate 'flat' to 'clip art' but it isn't correct. Flat art is a style that takes skill to do well, clip art is a cheap resource.
