    Something I was always told was that 2k revs was optimal for diesels. I always wondered how accurate that was so it is good to have it confirmed.

    Gun126 Hilux wont lock TC on cruise control. Can bump set speed up and then drop again before it gets up to speed it will lock up, but will unlock with a gust of wind from passing incoming truck. This it at highway speeds.

    Very basic but handy info here Anthony. When I first bought my Prado, my first drive in it was towing a car trailer from Adelaide to Newcastle. I totally forgot about overdrive and it was just a hassle driving up hills and stuff, the trans was having a really hard time deciding which gear to be in. Realised it when I arrived... turned it off on the way back, so much better.

    Chiming in from Perth. 07 Prado 120 GXL auto V6 petrol 251k kms with factory wheels BFG 265/65/17 tyres. Our Black Prado is awseome & owned it for 3yrs without towing & without any issues. I have my own workshop with hoist & DIY mechanic with 3 x classic V8 cars & do all my own servicing. Previosu 120 V6 Prado was 04 5sp manual (also awesome car)
    My question is in our warm climate this idea have having the trans cooler within the radiator does not gel with me.
    Is it worth adding an external trans cooler (perhaps with its own cooling fan) ?
    The reason I ask is we have purchased a 2000 Coromal Seka 18ft dual axle van to tour the Kimberley's next year and the Auto will be doing a lot of towing in the warm-hot weather on bitumen, gravel & sand tracks. ( i have towed many times in my previous work provided car - 2018 Toyota Hilux dual cab diesel and always "not in" overdrive so plenty of past towing experience)

    Sorry Mate, your video was a bit over my head. I have a 2006 SR5 V6 Petrol Hilux 4x4 with the 5 speed Auto. Do you recommend driving around the city in 4th rather than drive? What gear do you recommend I drive in when I am on the highway sitting on 100-110km/h? Thanks.

    The post 2020 1GD makes torque between 1600-2800 rpm, so for one of those the "sweet spot" should be 2200 rpm.

    Bloody awesome video mate , I’m a mechanic myself and tow a 2.5 t van occasionally,never had the transmission light on but I am also anal about not towing in overdrive 👍👍

    This might be a dumb question a diesel engine do I have to service it on the due date or is ok to wait closer to the kms is due for the next service😁

    If you want to change gears yourself buy a manuel

    • @clover7359
      @clover7359 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's an ideal scenario, but manuals are getting harder to buy, and it's perfectly valid to want a clutchless driving experience, and whatever reason a person doesn't have a manual, it's still extremely valuable to know how to use an automatic transmission to make it last as long as possible. When engineers design an electronic program to operate an automatic transmission, they can't possibly know every situation the buyer will encounter, and they have to have a bias to make a consistent system. The O/D off and lower gears gives the driver choices to override the default programming when it's not ideal for the current situation. It's still less effort than being fully engaged by a fully manual transmission, and it helps make things last longer knowing when to make the right choices as far as transmission operation.
