I just made a video on my worms eating Christmas 🎄 trees 😅and here you are feeding yours Muscle Building powder💪🪱💪 Good Worms, Arnold Worminator! ❤Peggy❤
Arnold Worminator!! 😂🤣😂 That is hilarious Peggy!!! I may have to use that in my follow up video!! I'll go check out your Christmas tree eating worms video!! Thanks for the great laugh!! & thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱
I gotta tell you, It's not looking good so far...it smells weird, but not like rotting, and there doesn't seem to be any worm movement around it! The Executive Producer wants me to take out the protein powder but I'm gonna keep monitoring it for now. If it starts to affect the rest of the bin or the smell gets unbearable I'll have to take it out. Fingers crossed I can keep the experiment going!! Thanks for the idea to try this out; we have some expired protein powder in the pantry from my boys bulking days! Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱
@ Thank you for the update! Hopefully the smell doesn’t get worse and no worms get harmed. Keep up the great content your videos are always a fun watch!
Thank you! We made it through another night and we saw lots of movement in the other areas...so the executive producer has agreed we should keep taking it day by day...lots of mold forming on it (which is a good sign if you ask me, the tofu had none) but the odd smell is still there. This should be a pretty cool time lapse when it is all done!!
😂 I like that!! I need to get back to doing the original time lapses...worms reintroduced into my Outdoor Worm Bin after harvesting!! Thanks so much for stopping by Joe!!
I even knew I was going to do it...and I though saying it out loud would somehow prevent the inevitable!! Good thing the Executive Producer caught it!! Thanks so much for watching AV!!🪱🪱🪱
OMG have been asking for protein powder in the worm bin on your vids. Thanks for doing it!! ❤❤ Ps. I think it's better to dissolve the powder in water and pour it on to innoculate soil or shredded dry cardboard soaked in it
Thank you for the good idea!! The first 3-4 days were a little sketchy but it now has mold and mites on it, so I don't think it is going to turn out like the tofu did! If the worms end up eating it, then I'll be more comfortable dissolving it and pouring it into the bedding...to be safe I'll keep it in a section where I can remove it versus maybe soaking the whole contents where it can affect the whole bin. In the future soaking it and having it more spread out (and buried) will probably make the worms more likely to attack it earlier...even though I tried to do better, I still put more than I wanted and it clumped up!! Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱
It is always a race between me and the critters for ripe strawberries, lol. Glad the tofu did not have any lingering effects, goes to show the overall health of your bin. Been feeding chicken crumble to my CFT worms since last Jan, they are huge. I've noticed that if I sprinkle the pulverized crumble on a worm, they do not like it, so I give it a light spritz of water. On to another harvest! Stay Well !!!!
😂🤣😂 Yup! My three boys were all on the protein powder during high school to bulk up & get strong!! Hopefully it does the same for my worms!!! Thanks for dropping by AJ!!🪱🪱🪱
Thanks Rick!! It turned south for about three days but now I am starting to see some mites on the protein powder...it still smells pretty bad but as long as I see mold and mites, I know we are not going in the direction of the tofu!! Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱
😂🤣😂 Get to work Ann...or better yet, buy a close friend or relative a shredder and have them do it for you like my mom does for me!! I hope your worm day was a huge success!! Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱
Patrick, I totally understand the frustration of having to disturb a perfect feeding zone. I suspect you and I share a bit of an OCD problem! Never mind, it makes us really attentive to details. I wonder what the pH of the protein powder is? That may have caused the jumping around behaviour. Either that or simply dry powder. ~ Sandra
I definitely have a twinge of OCD!! I edited out me staring at that perfectly tucked in feeding for over a minute trying to decide what to do😂🤣😂 I'm not sure of the pH but it was interesting that the protein powder was the only thing that made any worms wiggle so hard!! So far the experiment is going the way of the tofu...lots of checking in on it and differences of opinion on if we have a wormergency (her) or if we can ride it out a little longer (me). Thanks so much for watching Sandra!!🪱🪱🪱
I killed one of my red wigglers bins. I overfed with my worm chow which contained dehydrated pumpkin powder. Then I put water on it and fluffed it and the bin heated up, worms got protein poisoning. 😢. I tried to save some worms but they were dead by the evening. Now the contents of that bin is in my flower garden…. Lesson learned.
Oh man, I'm so sorry that happened. It is such a fine line with worm chows...I eventually learned to feed just a little sprinkling after making sooooo many mistakes with my first worm bin!! I hope you start this one up again!!! Thanks so much for watching Julie!!🪱🪱🪱
I would be curious to see what level of eggshell grit the worms need before they stop favouring it like that. Feels like they're very hungry for it every time.
That is a great question...I'm assuming they constantly excrete the egg shells so they constantly need more, so they go for whatever they can easily get it & I do see egg shell grit uniformly throughout my finished castings, but 100% egg shell grit, nothing else in the bin, is too much so there must be a number right? Maybe they like the taste of the new stuff versus what their buddy has already pooped out😂🤣😂 Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱
Earthworms sometimes become hard like muscles all over their bodies, so they might bulk up. Let's look forward to next year's earthworm bodybuilding competition.
😂🤣😂 OK it's a tie between you and Arnold Worminator from Peggy for best comment on this video!!! Thanks for the good laugh!! And of course thanks so much for watching!!
I have never tried cat kibble but I think you can try a little bit to see how the worms react. I often try new foods in moderation and just take it out if I don't get the result I'm looking for. The bigger your worm bin the more forgiving it will be with new/different foods! Maybe someone that has tried it will read this comment and let us know!! Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱
Curious if there are other ingredients in that whey protein. Mine usually has flavoring (chocolate\vanilla) and artificial sweeteners which I've wondered about feeding
This one was peanut buttered flavored. I'll try to remember to post the ingredient list in the follow up video. So far the experiment is heading south as far as we can tell...It smells pretty bad and the worms don't look like they are going near it. The Executive Producer wants me to dig under and take it out but I think we can wait while continuing to monitor the worms closely. I'll keep you updated in the next VermiHut video!! Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱
Oh man that is a hard question!! I think it changes over time and depending on the time of the year! For over all ease of use and getting castings when ever I want, I think my Outdoor Worm Bin is my favorite...It is big enough that even if I feed it too much or the wrong foods, the worms can move to the other side, and I love that I can harvest castings when ever I need them. My wife likes that it is outside😂 My VermiHut is the best first worm bin and the one that gave me the confidence to start all the others. It comes with everything except for the worms and the trays can act a s sifters for the other worm bins or for various tasks in my garden. It also takes the guess work out of moisture control and produces castings like clock work!! My Urban Worm Bag is a beast and I can throw large amounts of anything in there and it will swallow them whole!! It produces lots of worm castings at once and is always fun to dig into!! My Tiny Traveling Worm bin is my baby and the one that requires me to be on my toes as tiny differences in food amounts or moisture will have big effects in this bin!! I love that I can take it with me almost anywhere and I can just dump scraps and napkins into it on the go!! SOOOOOOO the winner is.........All of them!! I have no favorite children, they are all special in my eyes!! I hope this non-answer, answer helps!! Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱
I did my 'fluff-n-fold' today. I had found a large, empty wasp nest outside. I put that in the feeding zone to see how long it takes for the worms to eat it. I'll let you know. 🪱🪱🪱
Oh cool!! That will be real interesting to see how quick they eat it...should be all natural since the wasps made it!! Thanks for sharing this & for the future update when you find how how quickly it disappears!🪱🪱🪱
