It is now around six years since this was published and coal, oil and natural gas prices have skyrocketed this year with widespread shortages in many parts of the world. So this is somewhere between early to mid way into the decline.
So we are facing at best a long depression that will deepen until collapse. So when the depression starts then it’s time to get where you want to ride out the collapse. God willing we can rebuild a better world. The sooner frankly the better our chances.
Yeah but even recycling uses more resources than it saves, for the most part. Most of what passes for recycling has a negative ROI like paper, and "plastic." The only polymers worth recycling are ABS at about 2 Eur/kg and maybe nylon-66. The technology does exist for converting mixed polymer/impurity substrate directly into hexane using fractional distillation but its use is forbidden in the EU. If it weren't for PRC taking it all for free and converting it into polyesther fabric via a human-labour intensive process, we'd simply have to dump it all into the ocean or burn it. Burn it?!?! YES! And really, what difference does it ultimately make if all those toxins get released into the atmosphere quickly, or leach into the groundwater over decades? IT'S LEGISLATION THAT HAS TO FUCKING CHANGE.
Legislation isn't keeping up with state-of-the-art science that we have right now and that's the problem: all the smart people are in science or finance but none are in government. Administering IQ tests to all aspiring politicians and weekly drug/alcohol testing would go a long way.
Yep. :| And ''people'' are RUSHING into ''cryptos'', probably the most damaging technology ever created, being now sold as ''inevitable'' for the future of money.
I agree with your point about society in the near future, however the near future is tomorrow and it does not look good especially when we look at positive feedback loops.
Yes John, I hope Guy McPherson is wrong. But, the powers that be and the brainwashed population may not change and we may be doomed. In fact, they want to make more war to keep the ponzi scheme going. Enjoy each day, it may be your last.
Keep in mind that it's only the United States who is ignoring climate change. The entire rest of the planet is trying desperately to save civilization.
@@pattimichellesheaffer103 Sorry but that's not true. I live in Europe, I can tell that all that matters for our governments is economic growth, more jobs, more taxes and if there's a tiny bit of money left then maybe they'll spend some in inefficient ways just to give the crowd the illusion something is done about it.
Folks like Richard Heinberg basically want to retain their lifestyle and given privileges ... On various occasions he peddles this strange middle ground of doom versus tech based hope. Bogus in essence.
he is good, not many can deliver the problem so well.

These shortages were the result of covid, government policy and the demonization of fossil fuels.
2025 and 2026 are expected to be ugly. Start growing your own food now and creating a stockpile to help feed your neighbors that don't.

Why do people keep falling for dooms day cults?

End of economic growth. This video didn't age well. When are people going to stop pushing doomsday narratives?
