    Question for Viewers: Do you work out at home? If so, what kind of training do you do? If not... dude...

      Kettle belt training, dumbbells, stretching, shadowboxing and when my heavy bag arrives bag drills.

      Body weight exercises, cardio, ( i also have bench and curl bar), shadowboxing, footwork drills, hitting bag, sparring w my dad, listening to music on max volume... I actually got used to this quarantine shit! I got a lot better during last few months of home training than last year in kickboxing and mma. Sometimes you need to train smart and analyze ur style and work on specific things u need to fix. Even tho coach is supposed to take care of that i think no one knows better whats good for me than myself if i have enough experience to know how fighting mechanics work... I actually had a lot of fun but i can't wait to go back to gym :)

      Have gotten the Centr Fit app 6-week free sub. I like it lots, lots of good routines geared toward the lock down and lack of equip. I also use the Brute Force sandbag along with kettlebells. Thats about all the equip I have space for. I try and keep my workouts focused. May not be the best optimal sorts of stuff, but it works for me and I like it.

    In my 2 bedroom apartment, the other room is covered in puzzle pieces. Ive got a bench, two stands, adjustable dumbells that connect to form a barbell, a free standing bad, and a double eneded bag i made using a bungee cord and a tennis ball( thanks mike) and all those purchases were under 100 dollars individually. Almost everything folds up. But honestly I'd trade it all to just have someone to hold pads with or just spar.

      @James O'Malley put up a request on facebook marketplace for people who might need the same training as you or you can pay them for it (Like $10-$30 bucks for 30min- 1hour depending on you alls requirements and such...). Or just ask a friend to train, but If you don't have friends who care to train with you I really recommend facebook marketplace as theres tons of people who would help you for free (I would lol).

    I think one of the neat thing about martial arts compared to other sports is that all of the equipment and gadgets we use to train are really ancillary: As long as you have the floor and enough space to at least fit a bed into, you can train in some capacity. Sure, pushups and situps and shadowboxing might not be fancy or flashy or the most effective, but you're still fundamentally working all of the same areas. There's really no excuse not to train, even with everything that's going on.

    Great video! From a ghetto fabulous miser, who is cheap af, this is a great and very true video. It has to be your thing, that YOU enjoy, you don't need to spend a lot of money on it, make it fancy etc, you just have to DO IT. Absolutely, if all you can afford or have is two concrete filled buckets with a bar between them, that's weight. It will totally do what any other weight will do. A great place to pick up cheap weights, is used. Go to a Salvation Army store or a second hand store and get those cheapy dumbbells and bench weights, that are plastic shell gold/tan in colour usually and low and behold, weighted/filled with concrete, lol.
    Pool noodles are AWESOME bumpers, yeah. Used them on the edges of my canoe for that reason and they turned out to be good for two reasons. They were originally installed on it as a typical boat side bumper for approaching docks etc. but they turned out to be the absolute cheapest padding for strapping said canoe to roof of car. The minimum, for an actual set of rubber roof bumpers was no less than $50. Fat pool noodles, $4 each, lol. They worked fine too, as good as any rubber roof canoe cushions.

    terrific vid Mike. I am attempting to make a second bedroom into a home gym. Its in a condo so I cant hang anything from the ceiling so I am trying creatively to come up with heavy bag stands. I am getting back into shape and doing what I did 31 years ago which was train in complementary styles. I will be training at a BJJ and Muy thai facility 4 days a week but I will be trainging off days and weekends at home. I think one of the most valuable services you seem to deliver is that you don't mince words or give phony praise to anyone. That is a rare commodity in a trainer these days in these times of dojos and schools handing out belts like candy.

    I moved my home gym from the nice warm basement to my detached garage right before winter (put a movie theater in it's place) and now I'm sad. It's a huge garage and a great space for a gym/dojo but when it's 40 below outside in Wisconsin, it's 40 below inside the gym, and that's just too damn cold. Something to consider if you live in colder climates because I'm going to have to spend some serious coin to make it 4 seasons ready (garage is worth it at least).

    Mike is 100% right about the plates are plates thing. Go to craigslist or marketplace, find some cheapo weights, and bring a scale to make sure the weight is close to what it says. Don't wanna be buying a 45 pound plate that weights 42 pound cause it'll fuck with your progression.

    • @hard2hurt
      @hard2hurt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's kinda the opposite of what I said. I am saying it doesn't matter if your 45 pound plate weighs 42 pounds because you'll add your 2.5 pound plates that might way 2.67 pound plates next week, and so on and so forth. It doesn't matter what they weigh as long as you are adding more. Now if you work out in different places maybe then it matters.

    You can get 270 square feet of 1/2-inch thick carpet padding from Home Depot for $100. If you do the monkey math, you can cut up that carpet padding into THREE 9.5ft x 9.5ft pads, which you can stack on top of each other to create one large 90 square foot base mat 1.5" thick. That's $100 and you have an impact base layer under your roll-out mats for Judo throws.

    You don't even need to be bald to cut your head on a sharp corner like that. I did that in a strip mall dojo and got a picture of me bleeding from the top of my dome to commemorate the fact I couldn't keep training that day. Also that spring is only how much? Snapping one of them up asap.
    My home gym is starting to get a bit crowded. Grampy had to move in with us and that meant we salvaged a bunch of his stuff which ended up in the same area I play in. My workout area is fine but the entertainment section where I keep the computer and the stand up arcade machine filled up a bit. I did get the mini fridge on the frame of an old grill though so I can roll that around whereever, and it's still in the fun zone and not in the work zone. I should do something with that foam that got sent up there as well, probably cannibalize it for my own bed by cutting it down to size so I can sleep super comfy. After that, I gotta fix my pull up bar and the treadmill (yes, I actually used the treadmill and not just as an anchor) and I should be fully operational once again.
    What's funny is all I do is Bas Rutten workout routines. Usually the boxing ones as well. I really need to stretch my legs regularly again.

    What would you recommend for some one who has really high ceilings in the garage and mounting it at the top is not feasible?

    • @usmankhawar5634
      @usmankhawar5634 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Get some sort of metal structure or pole mounted on the walls so that its low enough for a punching bag, the mma gym I used to go to had that. They seemed to have no problems whatsoever, with even 4 or 5 bags hanging on. They used to have it mounted on the walls, as well as two evenly spaced poles into the floor between the bags. Not as good as this guys, but still pretty good.
      I live in an apartment and I am not allowed to mount things on the roof at all, so I have a stand. It doesn't give me 360 degrees of freedom, but the legs are wide enough to give me greater than 180 degrees

      My last setup (stayed with the house when it sold) was a 4x4 wooden frame. I made it 6 feet on a side with a bag station on each side. I also have a really high ceiling at my new place and may go the same route again (perhaps 8 feet on a side with 4x6 uppers instead)
