Thanks Tom. Dad is VERY excited to get to the painting. Arguably his favorite part of the project. Every day he says, "we can probably paint today" or "it's almost warm enough to paint" or "we should be painting." Every time we think we can paint, the temps dip just a bit too much.
Think I misunderstood the question. Out of the eight valves in the decompression system tappets , only the intake valves open when engaged. The exhaust valves are not affected by the system and operate with the cam as normal. As far as the gasket goes there should be no pressure differential. Only internal engine pressure exerted outward.
Boy it felt like I just started watching and all of a sudden you’re signing off I couldn’t believe how fast the time went by ! Hey Aaron I think it’s pretty safe to say your sense of humour comes from your Mom’s side of the family because the Cleaner seems to be all business which makes it much funnier to watch but I bet you one day he’s going come out of his shell and he’s going to surprise me ! Sure is good you guys have a parts machine it would have been a shame if you had to put everything on hold because you to order a new dowel!😀🇨🇦
I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. 😊 It is pretty safe to say that my sense of humor definitely comes from Mom's side. I'll have to see if I can catch him laughing in the wild on camera. 😉 the 7J parts tractor was an absolute godsend! It definitely would have held up things if we didn't have it. We might have just figured out another way to shore up our parts issues in the future!
I think the decompression mechanism is analog to the D2? Fun fact this is a good thing to have if the engine has not run in months and may have condensation inside. Hydro lock is not something you want to have. The progress so far has been very steady and decent not long left until the front and back side of Little lefty will join again. If you start to tear down any old engine you find a lot of interesting repairs. The bent dowel was like welp I guess we found the original culprit
It is strange how many things are the same as the D2. Some are just bigger and some are completely different altogether. I never considered the advantages to the system under hydro lock conditions. Essentially, just open them up and blow them out! Every part has a unique story to tell, some just have more clues than others.
Right off the bat: The Cleaner, “ I’m workin’ here”. Not gonna lie, in my younger days if I had a square peg and a round hole, I would get a bigger hammer and smash that sucker through there. Followed by intense profanity and a tool being flung around, at which point my wife would say, “Thomas, there’s a reason the hole is round and your peg is square, duh!” Arrrrrrrrrrgggghhhhhhh…………….I hate it when she’s right!!!!!!!! BTW………..never having, or probably never having to, use Glyptal, I understand it is quite smelly (probably why your wife likes it in your house???) so what exactly does it smell like?
LOL! I am very lucky to have a wife with more patience than me. My wife tells me, "Take a break, slow down, think about what you are doing." I must have a frustration meter that only she can see, lol! She has definitely saved me plenty of future headaches! As for the Glyptal, it has a fume odor similar to spray paint only stronger and more petroleum based. It lasts much longer too.
Well, springs coming! Engine is on the up and up, banter is great fun, your hitting on all cylinders!!!!😅
On the gasket, is one side pressure and the other vacuum?

Sorry, I was trained by naval steam plant operations. We separated gaskets on same flat surface pressure side from vacuum side. My bad.
I’ve no training diesel engines
A comment to feed the algorithm beast, from the other side of the world. Keep up the good work.
Everything helps, thank you!
Patience wins the day.

Amazing videography!
Thanks you! 😊
Lol I feel like once someone catches a
"Project addiction" nothing will cure it 😂😂😂
looks a bit more complicated than the D315 engine!
Great video's keep 'em coming

If you really had OCD you'd be CDO with the letters in the right order. Ask me how I know.
Well maybe it's just a mild case of OCD, 🤣. (Not CDO, 😖) 😊👍
They"re called cam followers not tappets
Thanks you for the clarification. I think we called them several different names that were incorrect. We are learning as we go. 😊
