It's so illogical to not be able to use your own bathroom.
I feel sad bad for the wife... and those poor neighbors (between driving down the value of their homes to the rodents and 🐜 living in that hoard). She seems such a lovely person and I love her rosey cheeks! I would have kicked him out if he did not get mental help because it is like she is living in a prison he imposed on her.
Time to take charge and let the old man have no say.

Send the old man to someother place for a couple of days ..and clear his all stuff and tell him the stuff is safe somewhere ...

The show stated that they had three children and grandchildren too.

Just throwing it all out...behind the hoarder’s back never works. If everything is just thrown out...they will fill the empty spaces up all over again.
Children are taken away from their parents much easier than people's neglected possesions. Hoarding should be an arrestable offence, where the hoarder is locked away for a bit of time and their garbage remove from their residence.
Fortunately people who establish the law have more common sense and nobody has the ideas to lock away a mentally ill person and do sth to their possessions against they will as it would only worsen the hoarder's state.

You got a thumbs down, not for the filming, but for the hoarder. The place is a fire trap AND I wonder why the fire department hasn't condemned the place.
I guess my issue with the treatment for hoarders is that it is so delicate. Everyone has to tiptoe around them and handle them so carefully lest they freak out and hoard more. But the hoarder's treatment of those people is so callous and disrespectful. We teach tough love to kids but can't implement it on adults?
Tough love won't work with mental illness. Even with some normal but sensitive children it won't work. You wouldn't call a person with depression a lazy one as it's not the case. The same with hoarding, it's not that they treat others bad, most of all they are hurting themselves.
