The Australian is the only magician and escape artist to win SIX Penn And Teller Fool Us Trophies in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 & 2022 consecutively. She has appeared as the closing act in the Penn & Teller show at the RIO in Las Vegas & states they were a "good" opening act.
Helen admits the key to her success is her father, Arthur Coghlan, who is a magician, escapologist and inventor. She credits his innovative magic for all 6 wins.
Helen Coghlan (née Gillard) was the FIRST woman to perform on television Harry Houdini's Water Torture Escape & this is the second time she's done so! The first time was in 1987. This is a wonderful way to celebrate the holidays! Record breaking number of Fool Us trophies for Helen Coghlan!
At the 5:15 mark, the record is really two round parts stuck together. Helen separates and pulls up and out only the brittle fake record (bfr) leaving the real record in the box. She then puts the large needle through the hole in the box and through the real record. Then forcing the brittle fake record (bfr) back into the box the needle splits/breaks the brittle fake record (bfr) and the bfr falls down into the black table out of sight leaving the real record still in the holder with the ribbon and needle still in the center. Cool trick. Invented by her 91 year-old father.

When they were showing how many times Helen had won Fool Us, I heard the voice of Police Chief Brody saying, "You're going to need a bigger hand!"
That was a well-deserved win. All the better for the props looking like they'd been built by a 91 year-old man in his shed. Properly deceptive. Helen and her Dad are just toying with P&T now. I wonder when (and if) this run of success will end?

I'm honestly surprised she's still not banned from the show with how easily she fools them with at first glance very rudimentary and earthly tricks 😂 and she just always brings that amazing sense of humor and great charisma. For me, this is favorite of all 6 winning performances, I just loved use of vinyl record - such an interesting medium that was outlived by CD, and somehow CD was outlived already by vinyl which is magical in itself - and that's just so nice to see and to be used in this great magic trick.

I wouldn't call it a record "breaker" as much as i would call it a record "extender". If I were Penn and Teller, I would tell her on the show, "We are going to bring you back once a year every year until one of two things happen. One, we finally figure your stuff out, or two, the show is cancelled."
What is the trick exactly?
The needle appears solid, but the record penetrates it. It's a version of Chinese Linking Rings, except neither the needle nor the record seem to come apart. Helen Coghlan performs a smaller version of it when she threads the ribbon onto the needle.
