- Mishka is 16 months old and has been a pleasure to teach!
In this video I have a combo of Obedience, Tricks and Water Rescue Training. All taught using positive reinforcement. If you enjoyed this look out for our other videos :)

Our Newfie ( a brown girl) died 7 years ago....we still cry every time we see one...we have had dogs all our lives not one ever melted our hearts as Winnie did- can't explain why she was just so special

Outstanding work, with one of the most intelligent and sweet breeds on earth. Newfies are my very favorite dogs in the entire world. I lost my big silver Newfie Rafe three years ago, to age-related illness, and I miss him more each day. Thank you for this beautiful video...Mishka is a gift and absolutely gorgeous, one of the most lovely Landseers I've ever seen. Well done!

What a beautifully trained dog! I ask my English Mastiff to do something and she looks at me with complete disdain and will do it later, like a teenager that doesn't get out of bed.

I have the hardest time getting my silver Newfoundlander to look me in the eyes and staying looking at me for training. She is food oriented but will only watch the food not me..... any ideas?
Hi, the focus game is good for learning eye contact. If you haven't already learnt about clicker training do so I use an enthusiastic 'YES' instead of a clicker. I will try and add a link but youtube has videos that can help. That's how I got started. Also if luring to teach your dog, quickly faze that out by pretending to have food once they have the idea and produce food from elsewhere after marking the behaviour. The weaving bit made me laugh a little because she's so big and you had to take such long steps. Great video, though!
My golden will save people in the water or try too but when I get a newf someday I hope to train it as brilliantly as this

My Landseer ECT is Taffy. She is from the J litter of Pacific Coast Landseer Breeder. I would give anything to train ME on how to train her to do some of those tricks. She is very smart and looks a lot like Mishka with the black face and whit on her nose.

Are Landseers smaller than solid Newfoundlands? I see this on more than video. I am asking because our poodle mix is supposedly half St. Bernard but she has Landseer markings and is smaller than a "big dog," weighing in at around 80 pounds.
Hi, our girl is only 50kg so a lightweight in the Newfy world. As far as I know there should be no difference as Mishka has a black mum and landseer dad who was prob. 70-80kg.

Hi, yes she is clicker trained but I dumped the clicker for the Yes word. She is totally enthusiastic when food is involved. She's a thinker and is now nearly 3 1/2. Thanks for your nice compliment. :)
haha that's fair. We use a tongue click here for the horses because it's hard to juggle a horse, food and a clicker haha. But it's all positive reinforcement (as you know) :D That's very cool and its awesome to see a newfie. Would love to see more videos by you. I'm hoping to get a newf pup in a year here and I'm very interested to see what people are doing with them with the (+)R work.
Where on earth did you get such a beautiful, intelligent and well rounded newfie?
My husband and I are looking for one, it's very difficult to find a good breeder lately.

+WiLdFlOwEr I'm actually in Canada, where the breed is originally from, which is why I'm surprised we don't have many breeders here that come highly recommended.
Oh that's interesting. There are some fine breeders in OZ. We had Mishka flown over to Western Australia. We looked for all the relevant parental health checks and breeder after care. Our breeder is a phone call away if needed for advice. Of course we had to be patient and go on a waiting list. She was well worth the wait. :)

Hi, it doesn't take much time. Just consistency. I take advantage of meal times. On a whole this is totally achievable with 3, no more than five minute sessions per day. Always short and fun sessions.
