  • Fixed My Converter With Lacquer Thinner
    The Chrysler was showing code PO430 which means the catalytic converter is inefficient. Tried the lacquer thinner in the gas tank method and guess what- it fixed the problem saving me a ton of money. Please understand this is not a fix for all. It may work for you and it may not. If you decide to try it you do so at your own risk, don't yell at me cause it did not work.

    One thing that most people are not really aware of...the Cat clogs up when your engine uses oil. Most
    people on here regularly change their oil, but most do NOT change their PCV valve. If this valve fails,
    your engine may well be sucking up oil into the intake. If you have to clean your Cat, change your PCV valve.
    It's Cheap, and it just might prevent it from doing it again.

About 1 1/2 years ago I replaced my PCV Valve. so it should be good for a while. When they cleaned, sealed the Breather box and put the new pieces in, it ran so much better... I'm going to replace the PCV valve after I do the Cat Clean / Lacquer thinner!

The car definitely accelerate better and my car now creep forward when in drive and foot off brake, before, it wouldn’t roll unless I give it gas. I reset the light but it came back on then went off. So, it worked. Don’t know if it’s permanent. Mpg improved I got 360 before gas light came on, now it close to 410 miles.MAKE SURE DRIVE THE CAR. floor it few times too.

    One thing to keep in mind, lacquer thinner is an extremely hot solvent. It will instantly bubble paint, remove grease oil or any petro-chemical contaminants, soot, varnish, tar, you get the idea. Its important to use the proper mix ratio's. If you use to little its not as effective, too much well don't use to much. It is also important to use up the fuel mix/lacquer thinner completely. And then fill up with straight fuel. The lacquer thinner will degrade actually eat up any rubber, some gaskets etc. in the fuel system, so burn it all up. I do believe this trick will work on a fouled or partially clogged cat, but if your cat is just bad it will not fix it.

    I can only imagine that - if the lacquer thinner does clean carbon and burned oil deposits off, IN the cathalitic converter - how much more will it NOT clean INSIDE the combustion chamber - where oil rings in each piston allows this one to reach the top of the cylinder for lubrication - during combustion? Overall, I think is a win-win situation, if the thinner is not allowed to remain in the gas feeding system, avoiding harm to to rubber components {seals, hoses, etc}, exposed for a little while. I bought my 2009 Honda Accord Euro (Acura TSX) in 2013 and from 2015 I started to get the P0420 code. I am so used to it now I either just clear the code with my scan tool or put up with it. The log book stated the previous owner put unleaded in and the engine started to ping and dealer adv to use premium as per fuel cap. A few years ago my entire engine was rebuilt because of that. All four cylinders failed it took a while to get it fixed. Since then my stater engine failed and has been replaced. Sometimes the car won’t start because the replacement starter engine is either refurb or junk and I get a P339 Crank Shaft error. I’d try to put a gallon of Lacquer Thinner in but have a feeling it might matters worse. Sadly the car is slowly dying and has cost me a bit to maintain and I’ve done just over 234,000kms on it. My brother has a 2005 Accord Euro and he has done 449,000kms on it. They keep on going but have their fair share of issues!

    Does this brand of laquer thinner from Home Depot contain acetone? Acetone is not good for engine parts.

      Yes it does

    • @marketingmajor8126
      @marketingmajor8126 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It does actually contain acetone but you are not running the car on pure acetone or soaking parts in acetone for extended periods of time. Remember that the acetone content of the lacquer thinner is diluted by the gasoline and the fuel system parts are already solvent resistant so running that dilution through the tank will not cause any problems. You just would not want to do it to a vehicle with an old mechanical fuel pump that has a rubber bladder but otherwise it's not a problem. FYI, many of the most popular fuel system cleaners are based on acetone or similar solvent.

    • @marketingmajor8126
      @marketingmajor8126 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      A certain amount of the lacquer thinner does combust but it's not as efficient as gasoline in the combustion process so there is some residual that makes it through to the catalyst. The residual that makes it through has two effects. #1 is cooling the upstream oxygen sensor a bit which then sends a signal to the car computer to lean up the fuel mix because it thinks that too much fuel is getting through and cooling the oxygen sensor so the computer then backs off the fuel ratio and that's a good thing because then even though it's backing off the fuel ratio there will still be lacquer thinner residual getting through to the catalyst and now at a leaner fuel mix which means the higher level of oxygen will then result in the actual catalyst running hotter which is what you want because as the lacquer thinner residual then reaches the very hot catalyst the temperature shock is what will vaporize any contamination build up that was causing the catalyst to drop below threshold efficiency. Any easy way to detect the residual lacquer thinner that's making it through the combustion process and past the catalyst is after adding 1 gallon of lacquer thinner to half a tank of fuel is run your car for a bit then go back and smell the exhaust. You can actually smell the lacquer thinner coming out of the pipe and if there was indeed a significant amount of contamination build up on the catalyst you will also notice a gooey black residue on the tailpipe which is a result of the lacquer thinner doing it's just job and dissolving the contaminants as the residual flies past the catalyst. Fyi - it's cheaper at Walmart than it is at Home Depot.

    • @TechnMoto
      @TechnMoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm Weird since fuel goes into the cylinders via a fuel injector and then exits the engine after being burned via the exhaust manifold- does not travel through an intake manifold. Actually the only thing that travels through the intake manifold is air. Please do not pass on mis-information. FYI- I use this on all my vehicles to include my motorcycles for many years as a fuel system cleaner and have had nothing but good results. If your manifold did melt down then maybe you already had an issue going on in that vehicle that has nothing to do with the thinner being used mixed with the gasoline. Unless you used it incorrectly and poured it down the intake. Take care, ride safe.

    Wow amazing I’ll try this with half tank and 1 gallons of lacquer thinner and just raise rpm to 2 1/2 for 30 min hope it’ll improve but what about 2 gallons will it be harmful to the cat ?
    Mine looks like clogged cause front is 140C and back to exhaust tail pipe it’s 100 C so it should be reverse not that way to know it’s functional cat back should be hotter than front

      Haven't had a problem with the converters since. The check engine light has come on for other issues but so far so good. It's been a while since I've done this, video was posted much later in the year. I wanted to make sure it worked before I posted it. Others have said that the check engine light did return for the converter issue but it did help them in passing the safety inspection. All I can say is it worked for me, of course everyone will get different results.

      at this point what do you have to lose, right? Honestly I now use this in all my vehicles to include motorcycles when I feel they need it. It has always improved my idle, mileage per gallon and just overall running of the vehicle. I no longer use fuel system cleaner just lacquer thinner. Of course this is just my opinion and its worth very little lol. Also try changing the spark plugs, air filter and clean the map/air sensor- just a thought. You may have to do this twice. One gallon of lacquer thinner to half a tank of fuel. Let me know how it works out.

      It's actually not all that unusual for a P0420 to occur in a car with low miles that's primarily driven in city and is an older model that has accumulated those miles very slowly. Lots of short, in-city trips of years of time and very little open throttle highway driving will contaminate a catalyst much more-so that a car that has lots of miles on it that was driven frequently on the highway or on back country roads with very few stop lights. One of the worst things you can do to a car is not drive it or drive it very little.
