Seeing the Barnacle rework made me realise how much creativity was lacking in many of S3's stages. Some felt very simplistic. Wish we had that Barnacle rework!
a lot of them are very bare bones and extra blocky compared to maps in the previous games, if that makes sense. one example is saltspray rig, where some of the climb able walls towards the upper part of the map were pipes; the s3 maps excel in aesthetic, but heavily lack theming IN the actual map
@@السراقالمجهولDude, the map is terrible for competitiveness, but itshre still a top-tier for cashreual play, and beshreirdeshre, itshrekrtrdzszhjklghr not like mincemeat is mreuch better then lmao. 😂
@@thebipedalsquid Absolutely! Blackbelly had you fighting on the skatepark itself, Saltspray felt like an actual, working oil rig, Urchin was this secluded place were teens go do rebellious teen stuff and Triggerfish felt like an actual camping site. Even returning stages like Flounder felt more like actual places back then, the taller buildings and extra alleyway made the place feel a lot more alive. Nowadays, maps are literally just named after their background elements while the place you actually fight on is just random blocky terrain that doesn't feel like it makes sense to have on the place.
The humanoid hand on a blooper caught me so off guard, but funnily enough i can see it as something that Splatoon would add without making it a big deal
That Barnacle rework is so inspired, got me thinking of other potential gimmicks that would fit. What if Crableg brought back the crane platform from Saltspray? I'd place one on each side that moves between the high ground facing mid and the high ground on the right side
I love the Shipshape rework and I got completely blown away by the barnacle and dime rework! Amazing work! Have you ever thought of making your own original maps?
Funnily enough when barnacle was first announced last year I made my own original mall map, but other than that I never really did actually. I should show it off sometime.
That Barnacle & Dime rework is actually the coolest thing I have ever seen! I would love to play on the reworked version! If that was how it actually was in the game, it would be my favorite map! Great work!
Pretty awesome reworks, really love the creativity with Barnacle's re-design especially with the reintroduction of Piranha Pit's conveyer belt gimmick!
I already can't bear to even LOOK at BARF & GRIME, so how am I supposed to go on now, knowing that I will never be able to play on this GOATGOATNUT MALL version of it??? Why must you curse me this way, o squid on two legs... Great video lol
Looking at your barnacle remake I imagined what if for a mall thened stage they just did a 1:1 abandoned version of the "central" section of Coconut Mall (the part with two floors after the first escalator with the palm tree at the center) and justified with saying "even if at the age of humans it was a mall legends tells that it was also used as a race circuit" it would have been soo fun and interesting
i am genuinely so happy to see this. i was actually inspired to make maps on r/splatoon by your work on the first video, so just seeing this brings me tears of joy
As an Octobrush Nouveau, before the Um'ami rework I couldn't don anything, now I can :) (unless you could before, I just didn't know how to play the map, but now I'm winning way more on the map than before where 80% of my matches on it were losses) Also W reworks
I like barnacles layout a lot, but that tower path is EXTREMELY long for 3 checkpoints. itll be by far the longest to KO. just think about the distance the tower needs to travel while also breaking 3 checks, presumably at least one being a long check as well.
While I think the Barnacle rework is a bit too much for me, I do love the Shipshape rework (and most of the others). I agree on the points that Shipshape kinda suffers from the modularity problem, in that it changes too much between modes and loses a good bit of identity because of it (even if it's still my favourite map), so especially acknowledging the spawn layout thing from turf is honestly neat. Though if I might suggest one thing, I think extending the main spawn platform of Shipshape a bit more to contest the upper left in place of the rail could be nice, one of the few issues I see with adding back that spawn terrain is that lockouts could become a bit too crazy once they get into the spawn. Then also it becomes slightly safer to get onto the flank (which y'know the whole theme seems to be just saying /lh)
The reminder that Shipshape has dual ramps at spawns only in turf war is honestly depressing because the spawn regions of Shipshape in ranked feel very samey. The way the devs have to remove unique structures to make ranked modes work speaks volume of how bland the maps are and how small they are that they can't work around them.
You should go over some salmon run stage reworks. They haven't modified the maps to work better in splatoon 3 with the crazy 30+ egg quotas and the newer maps are kind of just meh. There's also just not enough sr maps which is unfortunate.
i have a singular question are choke points in their entirety a 100% bad design and shouldnt be there? cause lets be honest the best part of splatoon are th dog fights and this choke points ensure that more of them happen
Chara's vid was delayed so expect to see it within a couple hours btw!
Chara's half: th-cam.com/video/CdJwk6KrIJo/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
Are these map diagrams really made in Gd ?!
THAT BARNACLE REWORK THO 🔥
Now knowing these map diagrams are made in Geometry Dash makes me so happy - Great vid as always haha
WHAT
WAIT WHAT
Yeah its especially obvious in the Barnacle palm trees with the spikes used for leaves. As Geometry Dash player this makes me happy
it’s obvious a lil bit
HAH WHAT
That Barnacle rework is straight up what it would have been if it wasn’t a Year 1 S3 map 🫠

I'm in love with the Barnacle rework. I REALLY wish more maps felt like actual places instead of just... stages.
Right? S1 did that so well mostly.

@@thebipedalsquid You definitely should!
Wait yeah how did we not end up getting Pit style escalators in the mall stage thats such a cool idea
Fun police 😔
I wish these were official, they’re so good. Nintendo should watch this and learn how to make good and fun stages
you talking like the current ones arnt fun or good

That Barnacle & Dime rework is actually the coolest thing I have ever seen! I would love to play on the reworked version! If that was how it actually was in the game, it would be my favorite map! Great work!
Barnacle definitely needed a fountain somewhere
Otherwise, YEAH I ALSO THINK THAT MANY MAPS ARE WASTED POTENTIAL IN THE CREATIVE DEPARTMENT
Pretty awesome reworks, really love the creativity with Barnacle's re-design especially with the reintroduction of Piranha Pit's conveyer belt gimmick!
Nice job with the left handed editing! And that Barnacle rework is straight up awesome
Barnacle was one of my favorite maps (Yeah I don't have tastes) but this rework looks beautiful I want it so badly
Barnacle looks straight out of Splatoon 1 🤤
10:00 It's so beautiful I want to cry! I'd love to see this kind of rework for more maps
i need that barnacle and dime NOW
bro invented piranha pit 2

Great video lol
this guy made the minimaps to scale in gd while i have yet to finish a single level layout in gd
Nintendo needs to hire these guys
2:41 Oh mommy?! Hrrmm
I like the last map it looks cool to me. Nice video.
Im guessing the escalators on barnacle and dime will function similarly to the conveyor belts on piranha pit
We goin' back to peak S1 map design with this 🔥🔥🔥

I'm so glad!
@@thebipedalsquid thank you!
I love ALL of these! It just now makes me sad that we cant have these versions of the stages in the game...
Glad to see this. I just wish the splatoon devs would see this.
In an alternate universe where these changes are implemented, barnacle will no longer be my least favourite map
I want Barnacle & Dime to be just as much of a maze as real malls are, I love this rework

Hopefully they are as good as the last few times🙏
I know that the Barnacle rework is beyond unrealistic, but I would KILL to play on that. It looks like such a phenomenal map!

I love the mall rework. It reminds me of the conveyor belt levels in splatoon 2
WAKE UP BABE PART 2 IS HERE
11:26 ARE THESE PALM TREES INKABLE AND CAN I CLIMB UP THEM???
I imagine they are like Brinewater springs trees. Inkable but not climbable
