    Hi JazzMentlists! If you have not yet watched my version of Take 5, here it is. Note that jazz musicians typically only solo over the opening vamp. I solo over the bridge. I met Dave and his wife at the Montreal Jazz Festival backstage. He was playing the large hall, I was playing the smaller hall. Andre Menard who ran the Festival at the time arranged this for me. It was a complete surprise to meet Dave. We chatted a bit. And when he hit the stage, I was backstage watching him walk on - and the theatre roared with a standing Ovation for him. I couldn't stay to watch his show because my performance was about to start in the next 30 minutes. So I went to my hall and played Brubeck for my audience. They roared, and just loved it. Great memories. I'm a big fan of course. So enjoy my version here: th-cam.com/video/Bo2hB1feBhA/w-d-xo.html. PS: If you enjoy this type of jazz "training" , then I invite you to join me Saturday mornings at 11:00 am EST right here on TH-cam for FREE MasterClass and hang with other jazz musicians from around the globe. Brilliant! 🎶
    I’ve been doing ‘something strange’ for nigh on 50 years - cos that’s how the sheet music is…never too late to learn -
    I feel blessed by your ears!! Thanks.
    I came to Brubeck through Unsquare Dance, would love it if you’ve got similar insights into that…

    Finally! After all this years... OMFG! xD
    I so unbelievable thankful for that 'cause when I learned take 5 there was nothing like this. Well, didn't watched the video yet but after the other it must be great... ^^
    On the other hand, good videos come and go. E. g. my inspired version of "Clubbed to Death" as piano solo can't be found on YT anywhere anymore. ^^

      Great! 😀I never figured out for myself that a simplified bassline like demonstrated is perfectly good. So this enables me to practice this piece on my mini-keyboards (e.g. Yamaha Reface CP) too. I'm transposing it to Fm then but it is my favorite key anyways. ;-) Also the simularities to Cantaloupe Island are very surspring. Didn't practice a solo on that piece neither.
      The first 2 or 3 steps are fine for me as I am not really so much into jazz. Playing "outside" is not so pleasing for my ears yet. ;-)
      I'm wondering if I should count the total bars for the solo. Like what is best practice to have a "consistant" feel? What should be the overall structure of a solo or does this matter at all?

    5/4 make me crazy . when I try to do rhythm by left hand with solo by right hand more than 20 sec. then 4/4 always coming haha

    • @Jazzmentl
      @Jazzmentl  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. That happens. It just takes experience. Keep playing a bar of 3/4 and a bar of 2/4 and you'll eventually get there. 🙂
