I got married in 1981, and blissfully had no idea about wedding etiquette! I held the reception in the church hall, myself, my sister and my mother decorated the hall and cleaned up afterwards! Mum (in the pub trade) did the catering and donated a beer keg and the barman. We bought bottles of spirits and soft drinks from a cash and carry. I invited only those I saw regularly. ( I didn’t include uncles, aunts or cousins!) nor did I make a gift list or make a note of anyone who didn’t give a gift. ( that’s if anyone didn’t, I thanked everyone personally at the time. We had a great party, 45 of us, free bar and lovely food. No one got overly drunk and we had booze left over. Everyone there has reminisced about how good it was. We had been living together for a year, so no toasters. We got a duvet set, some vases, a writing set, a biscuit barbell and a table lamp. I loved everything as we didn’t have much. I still have some of the stuff and still love them and the memories they bring. Anything I didn’t like went to a charity shop after a year. 😂
Everything doesn’t have to be complicated!
