I've been a service technician for over 40 years ,Yea I know i'm old but i do own a BMW M5 and this video is just going to make my installation so much more easier , Great Job !
*** FINALLY *** This was the best ambient video explained in full detail! I seen others and it was like a secret they were keeping 😂! Thanks for the information ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So detailed it helped me get everything I needed before I installed it into my own car. One trouble I had though was I had to feed my own wires to the back doors as my car didn’t have any positive terminals
After watching so many sloppy install vids, its refreshing to see someone actually take the time to remove panels and do it correctly. Nice work, looks clean and tight.
Thank you so much! Best video i found so far! Won t do it to my brand new car, because it would void the warranty. I really wish to now, seeing how easy it really is! Thank you!
Hey man great explanation, one question - do the lights remember their state when turning off and on again? For example, if I choose red color, when I turn off the car and turn it on, does it turn on as red instantly, or do I have to set it again to red and it has some kind of default lighting at startup?
Great explanation for the video! For the storage bin area, why you placed the light in the sidewall instead the middle ceiling area? Maybe it would brighten the whole storage if the light is placed in the middle ceiling area? Thanks a lot!!
I think it was because there wasn’t good enough access to drill the hole on the top of the storage area. If you have space on your car, it would be nice to install it on the top.
@TheAutoSurgeon since you installed these lights have you had any issues with them, or anything you would have done differently? I just ordered some lights from your link. Hopefully you still get a little kick back from it.
instead of tapping into the cigarette lighter why not use a FUSE Tap and tap into the fuse for the Cigarette lighter. the Fuse Tap is much cleaner install. Excellent Video and very detailed. This video inspired me to try installing this kit myself.
Great point! However, the fuse for the cigarette lighter is in the trunk of the car. You would have to run a wire from the fuse box to the front dash if you were to use a fuse tap. The cigarette lighter is a fused connection regardless, and I’d actually argue that it’s a cleaner install than running a 6 foot wire from the trunk.
Bummer, your car has the fuse at the rear. My vehicle has it up front under steering wheel. Now it makes sense why you tapped up front. Thanks for the clarification
Thanks so much! I just wanted to know, how did you install the extra one? Did it need a new module? How did you go about the wiring and getting it all to link up?
Which extra one are you referring to? The one under the radio controls? That one I just plugged directly into the main control module. The modules have multiple slots so that you can plug in multiple LEDs.
@TheAutoSurgeon awesome! Thanks for that! I've just installed a kit after watching your video! I'm trying to work out that if I bought another kit, if those modules will connect to the same main controller as the others!
Someone else asked me the same question, honestly I don’t know the answer 100%. But I’d imagine it would connect-reach out to the company and they should be able to confirm.
Awesome! Don’t be nervous, only thing you have to be mindful of is removing the panels and drilling into them. Just take extra care when doing so and you’ll be just fine!
Changed my cars interior wow. I followed your tutorial step by step. Although one of the lights are going in the opposite direction do you know that might be?
Awesome! Make sure the connector is facing the same way for each strip. So, if you’re doing the doors, the connectors should be facing the front of the car.
The way you wired the door lights means it will only get power when the headlights are on correct? I’m trying to make all the ambient lighting turn on at once so wanna figure out what the best way to wire the dash and rest of the car is
Yes, the way I wired it, the door lights only turn on when the headlights are on. If you want them to be on at all times, you need to find a constant 12v supply in the door. This may be hard to find though, you can try tapping into the window motors. If you can’t find anything with a constant 12v source, you’ll have to manually run a wire from the cabin into the door (this is easier than it sounds).
@@TheAutoSurgeon Thank you for the response. I think im gonna run the dash like through the ambient lighting int he cigarette socket like you mentioned and also the ambient lighting on the doors for a more oem look. Thanks again for the tutorial
Yes, absolutely. Put the switch in-line with the main controller’s power supply. Since the sub controllers don’t turn on without a signal from the main controller, if the main controller doesn’t have power, the sub controllers will also be off.
Thanks for the great video! As I want to install it on a small car without a soft ambiant dome light, would it be possible to use the storage lights for this purpose or are the LED's to bright?
Yes, absolutely! It can be done. If you find that they are too bright, you can always turn down the brightness through the app. It can go very dim, so you’ll definitely be able to find a brightness that’ll work.
Nice tutorial! Question, when connecting to the white wire does that make the light appear only when its dark outside ? If not do you know how to make them turn on automatically when its "night time" if you know what i mean. Best regards
Yes, the white wire on the cigarette lighter in the video. That is on my car though, it might be different for yours. You just need to find a power source that’s on when the headlights are on. For example, if you have some factory ambient lighting, you can tap into that since it’s only on at night.
how does the sub controller communicate with the main controller? simply as soon as I give it power and all the sub controllers connect to the main controller?
Yes, exactly. As soon as they have power, they’ll turn on. But if the main controller is powerless, the sub controllers will stay off since there is no wireless signal indicating the controllers to turn on.
Hey I have these lights and just installed them. What is the app called for the lights? My package didn’t come with any instructions and I can’t find it online
@TheAutoSurgeon so how would you wire them to turn on when you unlock the car? Stock ambient lights turn on when you unlock the car so in my opinion it looks nicer that way.
I had my battery connected to test for power with the door panels off. For my car, the airbag light gets reset when you disconnect the battery for ~10minutes and reconnect. I’m not 100% sure if yours will do the same as some people report they need to use a scanner to get rid of it.

I’ve got no idea, I don’t think you can. That’s why I didn’t install the speaker that came with the kit, it’s kind of pointless since the microphone doesn’t work that well either.
@@TheAutoSurgeon thanks for the response! I did end up checking out your channel and I saw the video on it. It looks fantastic! I drive a 2019 Mazda 3 hatch. Unfortunately I cannot find any custom gauge clusters that looks nearly as good as yours. Sick build. Keep it up mate.
You swapped the front door ones out for 43 inches and used the 29" that came with the kit for rear doors correct? 29" for front doors are too short for same installation as yours no?
I have the dash wired up perfect and the drivers side door wired perfect the passenger door is giving me a hard time the only power I can get is the puddle lights and they only turn on when the door is open, the window switch seems to not have enough power, I’ve tested each module Ona battery and all leds work the door just doesn’t give enough power I’m guessing because it doesn’t have as many switches as the driver door? U got any suggestions mate I’m going insane lol
Invest in a multimeter. You can find them extremely cheap, ~$15. Using the multimeter, test each pin/wire for power and it’ll help you determine which one has 12v while the car is running! You should be able to find at least one power source, but in the case that you can’t, you’ll have to manually run a wire with the factory harness from the cabin into the door - this sound scarier than it really is. Just make sure it’s running exactly the same as the factory wiring going into the door, otherwise it may snag or tear.
I’ve got the bmw e60 front passenger side won’t light up I’m guessing it hasn’t got 12v power in the door switches, driver side and dash is fine just can’t get any of the other 3 doors to light up
All 4 footwell lights are powered using just one connector that connects to the main controller. You run each wire separately, but it’s all attached to the same harness.
Only if you can find a way to attach new 4 wires and the same specific connector to the cut piece. When you cut the strip, it no longer has a connector for power on the cut piece.
@ thanks. I cut it too short yesterday lol and the supplier couldn’t send extras. Do you have any knowledge of where i can find the 110 cm wire. Thanks for ur help.
Do you mean the extension wire that attaches from the right side to left side of the dash? Here’s a link: a.aliexpress.com/_m0H4CcF if you need other replacement parts that Silverholder can’t provide (the actual light strips), you can buy them here: a.aliexpress.com/_mq6Ug4L
As long as you tap into an already fused power source, you don’t need to use another fuse. But yes, you can install an extra one if desired, it is redundant tho. If you’re directly tapping into the battery for power, then a fuse is required to run it safely.
You may have a fuse box in your glovebox, you can use something called a ‘fuse tap’ to tap into an existing circuit and piggyback the power from it. It’s a very simple device, I’m posting a new video today in a few hours and It’ll include using a fuse tap.
Is the main controller wired in and powered on? The sub controllers don’t turn on unless the main controller is on and sends a signal to the sub controllers to turn on.
I installed the 18 in 1 kit which comes with everything shown in the video (dash, door panel, door handle, storage area, and footwell lights). The other kits just have less parts. For example, the 2 in 1 only includes 2 light strips for the dash, the 10 in 1 kit includes everything except for the door handle and storage area lights.
Hello! This looks awesome. I wish to get such kit. Is there any similar in europe? I can't find any. If there isn't, would it be possible to get them from US somehow? Can you help in any way?
You can probably find it on eBay or Aliexpress, search for “Symphony Bead LED Kit.” Most ship from China so they should be able to ship it to Europe! (www.ebay.ca/itm/155508914660?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=aVCgQjc1TIC&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=&var=455748117198&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY )- Something like this.
Is it possible to hook it up to a physical switch for turning on and off? Would like to be able to turn it on and off myself but don't really like app controls for car stuff
Yes! In that case, you would just run a physical switch for the power to the main controller. If the main controller doesn’t have power, the sub controllers don’t turn on either because there is no wireless signal to tell them to ‘turn on.’
Hi great job I wanted to ask a couple of questions. I would like to connect the sub controllers in the doors to the window button lights but the cables are thin. Since the sub controllers depend on the main controller, can they also be connected to any positive in the door? the question is whether they can absorb even when they are turned off
@@TheAutoSurgeon A youtuber (garage 88) tried using the power window motor but came up with dash warning his car was an e91 because the submodule drained too much power. Does the E60 have this issue?
The windows are inoperable when the car is off, so I’d imagine there isn’t any power going to the window regulator while the car is off. I’m not 100% sure, you would have to test each wire with a multimeter.
@@jonot8547have to make sure that the amp output on the power source is 12v as that is what the kit requires... If it is less than that then that can cause problems
Yo so I’m having 2 problems. After I turn the car on, the lighting turns on for 5 secs maybe and then turns off. Doesn’t show up on the app as well. Second being the ends of the light strips where it was cut, it usually is bleeds red. How can i fix that or make it less noticeable
Are you running the LED ones or the fibre optic ones? I haven’t noticed any bleeding from the LED ones, so I’m not too sure. You can probably put a piece of black electrical tape on the end to prevent the light from bleeding. In regards to the lights turning on and back off, it sound like it’s an issue with the power. To test if the lights themselves are bad, hook up the power straight to a 9v battery and see if they turn off after 5 seconds. If they work fine, it’s likely the power source, try tapping into a different power source in your car. Hopefully that helps!
@@TheAutoSurgeon using LEDs. Yeah where i cut them its red no matter what color i choose. So that turning off after 5 sec issues went away after i drove the car again later tonight. Not sure what happened lol. But atm only the bleeding issue. Could a black tint tape also work?
Yeah, tint tape should probably work fine! It’s also possible that you just cut the strip at an awkward angle/place. Maybe try cutting off another mm. It’s could be that you cut directly on a specific point of an LED where only the red light shines. But again, I haven’t had this issue so I’m not 100% sure!
@@TheAutoSurgeon okay i figured out the issue, when i have the lights setting wheel near the steering wheel set to automatic, the leds dont work during the day but work at night. And when i set it to any other option on that other than automatic it works totally fine
Change your door lights, these are most cheapest one already fully faded out 😂 , ambient lights are ok 👌🏼 but in long term test them cuz these are gen 1 from controller in can see. Gen 3 controller is best so far now
Which door light do you mean? The door handle or the storage area one? It’s been working great so far, whats the difference between the first gen and 3rd gen controllers? I didn’t know there were different versions.
@@TheAutoSurgeon door lights ( puddles lights ) M logo one M is already 99% Faded . Gen One controllers are Black which you can find in now very cheap Gen 2 are transparent one and the now gen 3 Orange controllers those are expensive but really good like communication problems with your cellphone app connection time and as well as sync between all door controllers like when you change color they will change together with in mili seconds gen 1 long trem use can’t sync properly when changing color through app and as well as connection not fast as before. 60% customers complain so gen 2 came out then gen 3 came out ( at present)
The M logo puddle lights were off of Amazon, they’re not part of the kit. But that’s interesting to know. I haven’t had an issue with this ambient lighting kit yet, the app connection and synchronization is solid, from my experience.
Nice. I’m driving a 2019 Lexus es300 hybrid. Two questions: - the es I would assume is a longer car than the one here. I want the 4 doors, my dash, and the 4 foot wells lit up only. What would you recommend I buy? - would the hardwiring on hybrids be any different based on voltage?
hi, ik this video is a year old but I’m using it to install my ambient lights. I connected it to the ambient lighting but it only comes on during night. Is there any way to get around this?
You need to double check the power source. What did you tap into? If you tapped into factory ambient lighting, like I did in the video, it’ll only turn on when your headlights turn on, at night. If your door lights are connected to a constant 12v supply, change the power source for the main controller, maybe that one is connected to your factory ambient lighting power. Change it to a constant (always on when the car is on) power source and it’ll be on at all times.
Yes, in the app that the kit uses, click the icon in the top right corner and there should be an option that says “startup animation” - just toggle that off
Are you using some other sort of Bluetooth device in your car? Maybe an FM transmitter or something like that? That could be causing an interference with the signal.
This is just great! One video Ive been looking out for months. Is there anyway you can explain getting the power to the subcontroller with the ground attached. Where and how exactly did you connect the power?
It depends completely how you wire the power for these lights! Make sure when you’re wiring, you find a power source, especially for the main controller, that only has power when the key is in the on position. This will ensure that your battery won’t drain overnight!
For your main controller, you need to tap into a power source that is only on when the car is on. Check your fuse box and test some fuses to see which one has power when the car is on. Then, use a fuse tap to wire in power for the main controller.

U the best soo far.can it be installed in Toyota yaris
Yes, of course!
Thanks
I’ve got the bmw e60 front passenger side won’t light up I’m guessing it hasn’t got 12v power in the door switches, driver side and dash is fine just can’t get any of the other 3 doors to light up
I responded to your previous comment
Which kit did you get which should i get just for the doors and dash
I got the 18 in one! You’ll just need the 10 in one for the doors and dash.
How do you connect the rear footwell lights to the subconnector?
All 4 footwell lights are powered using just one connector that connects to the main controller. You run each wire separately, but it’s all attached to the same harness.
Where do u ground it and did you split any wires for the 12v power?
Shows exactly what I did in the video, not sure what you’re asking.
Yo bro am i able to cut the long dashboard light into two? Will it still work? (The long wire with two connector on each side)
Here’s a link:

The app you use for the ambient lighting?
It’s called “Magic Lantern” on the App Store!
Hello, it's possible to have the ambiant lighting without the headlight ? In daytime I would like to have the lighting too
Yes! You would have to find a power source in your door that is on while the car is in accessory mode.
@@TheAutoSurgeon Do you know what cable I could find my 12v DC on after contact?
I’m not sure, you will have to check them with a multimeter.
That’s amazing wow 😱
Can u connect the wires to a fuse?
As long as you tap into an already fused power source, you don’t need to use another fuse. But yes, you can install an extra one if desired, it is redundant tho. If you’re directly tapping into the battery for power, then a fuse is required to run it safely.
If I don't have the cigarette lighter in front of me, where do you think I could get the power to the main controller?
You may have a fuse box in your glovebox, you can use something called a ‘fuse tap’ to tap into an existing circuit and piggyback the power from it. It’s a very simple device, I’m posting a new video today in a few hours and It’ll include using a fuse tap.
do you have any idea why my passenger door lights don't come on, but they have 13.25V?
I connected them to the window controller, but nothing. Do you have any ideas?
Is the main controller wired in and powered on? The sub controllers don’t turn on unless the main controller is on and sends a signal to the sub controllers to turn on.
@TheAutoSurgeon yes the main controller is wired and working but the one in the passenger door is not
Which kit did you buy? They have a lot of options. Between 2 in 1, up to 16 in 1. What do those mean?

@@TheAutoSurgeon interesting. Okey, thank you!!!
Is there any a small korean car light system the one you install in E60
I’m not sure what you mean, can you please elaborate?
Same lights you installed in car, but it fit for korean small cars
This kit can be installed in any car. You can cut the LED strip to size, it’s universal!
Since the sub controllers depend on the main controller, can they also be connected to any positive in the door? the question is whether they can absorb even when they are turned off
if you tap the factory ambient light for the secondary modules they wont turn on until you have your headlights on?
Yes, that is correct. If you want them to be on on the morning too (with your headlights off) I think you can tap the power from the window motor.
@@treeezy1472I think the LEDS amp draw is super low, you can almost take the power from anywhere
We're did you get that steering wheel led Damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn 😮😮😮😮😊
I have a full video on my channel regarding the steering wheel!
@TheAutoSurgeon thank you. I just saw it nice
Which one did you purchase? The 2 in 1, the 10 in 1 or the 18 in 1?
It’s the 18 in 1 kit!
Nice. I’m driving a 2019 Lexus es300 hybrid. Two questions:
- the es I would assume is a longer car than the one here.
Hi , please let me know what is the steering wheel? i need one , thanks
Check my other video!
thank you
c63 ambient install next
do you know how to turn off the initial animation?
Yes, in the app that the kit uses, click the icon in the top right corner and there should be an option that says “startup animation” - just toggle that off
Iv just done the ambient lights to my car but they keep changing colours will not stay on the colour I chose
Which app are you using?
@@TheAutoSurgeon iv tryed magic lantern and iv tryed magic car light
Are you using some other sort of Bluetooth device in your car? Maybe an FM transmitter or something like that? That could be causing an interference with the signal.
how is your steering wheel called?
There’s a video on my channel regarding the steering wheel!
Cant wait to upgrade my car
This is just great! One video Ive been looking out for months. Is there anyway you can explain getting the power to the subcontroller with the ground attached. Where and how exactly did you connect the power?
It shows exactly what I connected the power to in the video at 6:20!
Do you know if this would drain my battery on my 2006 civic?
It depends completely how you wire the power for these lights! Make sure when you’re wiring, you find a power source, especially for the main controller, that only has power when the key is in the on position. This will ensure that your battery won’t drain overnight!
looks good
Hi
Is sub controller connect with main controller with cable
Nope, the sub controllers connect wirelessly to the main controller.
@@TheAutoSurgeon thanks
I got mine bro it mine doesn’t want to turn off and I connect to the nuetral to tap into the car what should I do
For your main controller, you need to tap into a power source that is only on when the car is on. Check your fuse box and test some fuses to see which one has power when the car is on. Then, use a fuse tap to wire in power for the main controller.
