Ok, I’m enjoying all your comments including the critical ones, however, I need to clarify some things. You need to own what you say and I will not accept ones being disrespectful towards anyone in my videos. By disrespectful, I mean calling someone a moron or an idiot. Being critical of someone’s driving is ok, but let’s put this all in context. Mike was new, but he just wanted to prove his vehicle could keep up as he got quite a bit of hate prior to even going off-road (From some in a local Jeep FB group). Now, Sean, Zach, and I told him numerous times to take it easy, but it’s also his vehicle and we’re not going to force someone to drive our way. Also I didn’t see all of his wheeling till editing and I can guarantee neither did the others so we really didn’t get the same picture y’all got from this video. Did he wheel recklessly? Yes. Did he get home safely? Also yes. Was he with a crew that wasn’t going to abandon him or anyone else? Absolutely. This is the deal, I do not want any vehicles damaged during these trail guides especially like this (it is a pain in the ass to get a disabled vehicle off-trail), but it is possible (I mean we’re dropping vehicles off ledges and big rocks, what do you expect?). I do not and will not push anyone to take a hard line for video purposes. These videos are designed to get people into off-roading (and show Colorado). Breaking vehicles is an easy way to get people to say nope so our goal is get through a trail safely and hopefully still be entertaining. Recently I stopped one of my buddies on wheeler lake’s the flopper. Could he have done it? Absolutely. Did I know how to spot him SAFELY on it? No. So, I appreciate all of you for watching these, for subscribing, and definitely for commenting. I realize most of the comments are good natured even if critical so keep it up and yes, I do reflect upon the insight given. This just needed to be said based on some comments being posted.
Yeah, it was a hard lesson to learn, but, he learned and is better as a result! I get annoyed by it because it’s usually from wrangler owners who think they need 37s to actually wheel hard stuff. They’re dumb tho 😉
I love the videos you guys post. I know which FB group you're referring to, happened to me too. I just got a 2020 KL Trailhawk. It's still stock but I'm planning on doing some mods to it in the future. I've only done a few easier/moderate trails so far but I'm always looking for others that I can handle.
Yeah, they go overboard sometimes. Also, I was dumb for forgetting that was why We originally connected. It had been a few weeks from his FB post at the time of filming. Thanks for watching!
I love your videos, I have a Renegade stock as well and I was able to to this trail no problem, since its a easy trail, Mike was just pushing the jeep to hard. Renegades are good cars for off-road and they can handle probably as much as a wrangler, if you take the big rocks out. I don't know why there's to much hate to a nice suv.
It’s maybe just the times... this was published when we were in lockdown I believe (but filmed prior to it). A stock renegade can do tincup, but I do want people to use this video as a reminder to not wheel alone.
I felt like I was watching early footage of Whistlin Diesel putting a Jeep Renegade through it's paces in this video. Dude was driving that thing like he had ZERO fucks to give. love it!
Loved this video! I grew up riding up Tincup Pass with my grandparents numerous times in an old stock CJ5 as a kid. I'm 36 now, and I, nor my grandparents, have been up Tincup in 23 years. They're in their early 80's now, and my brother and I are loading them, our wives, and kids up in our gen2 raptors and going to take them up for 1 last hooray this July so that they can share the same memories I have and love with their great grandkids. We are all stoked! I am highly impressed with that Renegade. I knew it would do new Tincup with no problem, but that is impressive for it to handle the original trail. Looks like ya'll had a good time!
When the Compass was getting spotted, the driver did really well for not having been off road before. This outing and video footage will be a helpful addition to their knowledge in the off road world.
Dewey, my wife and myself have just recently discovered your channel and it has made us add wheeling Colorado to our bucket list. We try to only watch one a night because we don’t want to run out of episodes lol. You’re doing a great job and we really appreciate what you are doing!! Thanks!!
That is awesome! Welcome! Unfortunately, I’m a slow editor and Drew is also, but that is because we want to make them as good as we can. I do think we’re getting better as we go, but we still have a lot to learn. Thanks for being here!
This is my favorite video Micheal is my brother in law you did a great job having his back and I appreciate it . Much respect for you brother! Great video!
Yeah, stuff happens and we have to learn from our experiences. Still, he didn’t deserve some of the comments on this video... off-roading isn’t about if a breakdown is going to happen, it’s about when a breakdown is going to happen. The next video, middle st vrain, I broke down and it won’t be the last time. Thanks for watching!
I took my GX470 up Tin Cup when it was bone stock. Had to choose lines carefully and got asked if we were lost or told to turn around many times. Props to Mike for having the balls to bring his Renegade up there. Although a bit naive, the guys gusto must be respected!
Ok, now I have to go to all of my Renegade groups and find this guy. What was he thinking? You said he’s new to the trails but has he ever driven a car at all before?? He was going “Full Send” the entire time. I’d never trail with a guy like that. It’s reckless and puts everyone in danger. Learn buddy and learn quickly.
Maria F yes he was, but it wouldn’t be right to force to someone to drive their Jeep our way in my opinion. I’ll think about it tho. Still, we talked to him throughout with suggested changes. I wish we had either Davon or Robert (from Slaughterhouse) to work with him in this one. I don’t know much about the renegade besides liking their size. However, he definitely learned from this so I think you’ll see safer wheeling from him now! Thanks for watching!
Recently did a trail with similar difficulty to this one here in south africa withmy stock Renegade trailhawk as well. He got to slow it down and really pick your lines properly. The Renegade just keeps impressing me though. Been able to keep up with much larger vehicles. A vehicle that you don't have in the states thats massively impressive offroad and even smaller than a Renegade is the Suzuki Jimny. Those things are unstoppable
Definitely and the Jimny is really cool… many of us here wish we could one. I love my wrangler, but if the Jimny was option, I’d try to pick one up as a second vehicle.
Yeah, same here, and I was amazed that this video got hate as it was a part of wheeling in my opinion. However, we are going to film this trail again and Mike will silence the haters by showing he learned from this.
Awesome video. I have a 2019 Cherokee Trailhawk and cant wait to run it thru this trail. I cant believe that Renegade go thru most of that.. that thing got hammered!
I like when you talk about the trail. How to get to the trail, the elevation of the trail, the difficulty of the trail, the scenery, names of mountains, famous spots, types of trees, the weather of the time of year you on the trail, everyone in your group and the Jeep models everyone has. Never change that. You have great communication skills, keep up the good work.
Definitely in the plans! Maybe not this summer, but our 2022 plans are pretty wild! My buddy and I are going to attempt some truly tough trails in our stock wrangler rubicon and bronco badlands. Plus we want to hit some trails we’ve been meaning to film for a while with the entire crew. I’m excited to get at it!
Wow! Fantastic scenery. Reminds me of St Johns and Deer Creek outside of Monazuma. Loved watching this. Renegade was amazing. Had to watch the rescue, amazing as well.
Thanks for bringing us along. Man that dude was driving that Renegade way to fast, and 'Full Send' is right. Honestly, its a testament to how far it made it before breaking, of just how well they can do and the abuse they can handle! That was only going to end badly.
dorelse This comment is exactly what I was thinking while editing this. I didn’t see all the footage live and I was impressed by how much abuse it actually took. Thanks for watching!
I really felt this one, and enjoyed your pure honesty in what was happening and why. Great editing too and really appreciate that you take the time to make these videos. I own about three nice gopros but I barely manage to take the time to take any video clips, and even once I've taken the clips its like pulling teeth for me to sit down and edit them. I know its a long tedious process, so thanks for doing that. We've only been to Colorado once just a couple months back and we did a lot of great hiking but we were too shy to risk our brand new 2020 Cherokee and didn't really know where a good spot to go would even be. Now I've discovered your videos and taking notes for ideas for our next trip out there. Your guides are really helpful and I appreciate that you don't sugarcoat things or edit down to only the sunshine and rainbows parts. You are showing us some real wheeling, great places to do it, and giving us the info we need to decide which trails we are comfortable tackling. Thank you.
I really appreciate your comment. I try to provide reality as I don’t want to ever mislead people especially since we present these in a more informative format than a general trail video. Editing is a love/hate relationship for me, but I think it’s going to be a mostly love once I figure out what I’m doing (learning shortcuts, a bigger color accurate monitor, better workflows). I am noticing that I might be getting better at it, but I still hope to get much better. The Cherokee is incredibly capable, and I love watching it in action. We hope these only improve so you and others can continue to count on accurate trail info. That at least is our goal. Anyway, thanks for watching and we appreciate that you’re here!
First of all, I love your videos. One of my more favorite channels. Keep up the good work! I came here to harp on the Renegade driver, but it seems others have done that job for me. I cringed a lot while watching him. One suggestion for the videos: when showing a car's specs, why not freeze-frame for a few seconds while the car is passing so we can read the specs without missing any action? You could make the overlay more prominent, too. Sometimes I don't notice them at all until the second (or third) viewing.
Duilio Proni Thank you so much! That means a lot to us! About the car text boxes, I can definitely play around with that. My goal is to eventually add specs into the video descriptions, but it’ll take me some time to get to it. Thank you for watching and I appreciate the feedback!!
Thank you for posting this video, it was really enjoyable to watch, even if a little unnerving at times. I love the Renegade (and Wrangler) and hope to be buying one later this year, we now know how much of a beating it can take! Looks like a beautiful trail, I'm sure you all had a blast!
Driving critiques aside I enjoyed seeing what the renegade is capable of. I own a Deserthawk and am new to off roading. It’s nice to see that they’re more than capable. It’s my daily driver and would like to take it out on some easy trails around my neck of the woods to start out and it gives me some perspective to the capabilities. Thanks for the video!
Holy crap 😂 That Renegade can take some punishment! I actually was thinking of buying one and wondered what those little cars are capable of... I guess I don’t have to worry about slamming it into a rock wall every now and then. Thanks man!!! Hopefully the driver’s car is all well and can take it a little slower next time :)
Yeah, they’re little tanks! We have a video of its recovery and all turned out well. Mike was a new off-roader, but he’s a smart guy so he’ll take it easier in the future. Thanks for watching!
@@coloradomallcrawlers is that recovery video on your channel as well? Just looked and I couldn’t find it. Love watching those little cars side by side with the classic Wranglers and more heavy duty Cherokees. Keep up the good work! Subscribed 👍
Yeah, it was a short one and hopefully the next recovery will be better. Here’s the link. Thanks for the support! th-cam.com/video/R_piEJEAPWc/w-d-xo.html
Just some free advice, not trying to tell anyone what to do. On my offroading and even my on road vehicles that have that cheap plastic cladding down low, I pop it off and replace it with truck bed liner. If you want to learn how to weld, some custom rock sliders are a great start. If not even renegade rock sliders can be ordered on line. Thanks, just a couple of thoughts.
Maybe it's just me but when I was new to off-roading I didn't go slamming into things. I may have good special awareness, but it looked like that Renegade driver did not know the height or space around theirs very well. Glad everything turned out allright, but make it an important rule to learn where your wheel placement is, height clearance, and proper speed for the conditions.
He got harassed like you did in that FB group, but without your wheeling experience. That pushed him to prove the renegade was a little beast like it was in my slaughterhouse video. He just didn’t realize that wheeling requires restraint and that you can’t just bash through a trail.
@@coloradomallcrawlers Sometimes it pays to have a more robust vehicle to handle your driving skill. While the Renegade is not a pick on my list for tough vehicles, I have watched many videos showing their ability, and they hold their own on many tails. I have seen the Trailhawk could use with a lower "low" range for tougher/steeper trails. Wishful thinking that they put the better gearing in the lower models in the future so it is just as capable as the rest.
Very enjoyable video. I was surprised at just how capable the Renegade was. I have generally considered them to only be a half-sibling in the Jeep family. That it was left on trail was much more to do with some overly enthusiastic driving than a shortcoming of the vehicle. This is one aspect of this guy’s videos that I enjoy the most; seeing different models of 4x4’s and AWD’s compared in the trail environment. I am especially interested in seeing how “Cherokee-class” CUV’s perform on the trail. It’s surprising how good the electronically-controlled 4x4 systems have become, and from what I’ve observed, Jeep’s is about the best.
Thank you! I’d like to Mike back on tincup to show how far he’s come, but we’ll see. Really appreciate your feedback and thank you for watching and commenting!
Good details. Also noticed no one was aired down. Would have helped with traction climbing and down hill on rocks. And you can manually disconnect sway bars with a few wrenches.
The Cherokees were aired down. My philosophy is to air down as needed. A trail like this shouldn’t require airing down besides old tincup. Thanks for watching!
Well, I agree. We tried at times to get him to go more cautiously, but I’m also not one to tell a person how to wheel their vehicle. I think he learned a valuable lesson though. Yeah, definitely!
I’ve got to jump in here, and I’m sharing this to share is all. I get what you are saying Dewie, I do and I’ve been there. I have grown over the years to speak up, and I/we know in our group that it is a mutual thing. If you see something, say something. I’ve said before “If I’m doing something that doesn’t look, feel or smell right, speak up!” The last thing I want is a rig on its side, broken parts or somebody hurt with people mumbling, “I knew that was going to happen” or “I saw your wheel twisted that way and I thought you were going to break something”. I don’t have an issue telling somebody what I think they should be doing. Crawl it slower, don’t bump it so hard, try this line and ease into it. We tell those things to each other so that the whole group can have a great day and avoid or minimize breaks on the trail. Anyways, that’s enough. Just sharing my thoughts. Great video
Colorado4x4 I respect that and it’s definitely something I’ll consider in the future. However, everyone seems to be forgetting I didn’t see a lot of this till I started editing. I’m also not very comfortable telling another person how to drive their vehicle. I will say stuff like if it was my renegade I wouldn’t do that or I wouldn’t take a suv based 4x4 on that line. We also did encourage being easier on the Renegade multiple times and by the point I said “he says it’s a trail rig” we had said to go easier a lot. Zach also went on the non-old tincup route and I was pushing everyone but me to stay off of it since it was an unknown. This channel is not about breaking rides especially for most of us, we daily these vehicles. I also do NOT pressure anyone into taking a harder line or the same line as me. With that said, we got him off the trail without any assistance from others. Zach was a lifesaver to Mike. So personally, I like criticism, but it’s difficult to criticize this as the only people inconvenienced by this, was us. We also did a service to others by showing how much abuse a renegade can take. Finally, any day, any build, you could be the one that breaks.
Thank you! That means a lot as I’m trying to do my best with them. Hoping they’re entertaining yet also helpful for trail planning. Thanks for watching!
Nice! Been down that trail many times. Accidentally got on Old Tincup once and had to turn around. We like to do the 3 passes in one loop - Tincup Pass, Cumberland Pass, and Hancock Pass.
Do y'all think a Subaru Outback Wilderness (9.5 in clearance) could make it to the 3.75 mi mark starting from St. Elmo? That would be right about at the start of the curve north if looking at the map. The Colorado trail intersects this road there, and I'd like to resupply some folks who are thru-hiking the trail this summer.
Very true, still wheeling a stock vehicle is about finding weaknesses. I went to a manual disconnect instead of rebuilding the electronics after this. Thanks for watching!
Wow that was not easy , that was scary I'm glad everything turned out ok I love the Rene it just needed some tougher tires and a little more lift and I'm sure the next time everything will turn out perfect, awesome video.
Thank you! I appreciate it and I do appreciate every subscriber... it may eventually catch on, but I’m still new at it. Most of the videos I’m still editing are filmed within a year of starting the channel. I’m hoping the next summer’s ones will be better!
Sway bar motor? You have sway bars? These are Mall Crawlers! 😂 I'm having a blast watching you guys beat up yer Almost Jeeps. Hey good on ya for getting out there. CO sure is fun!
Yeah, he was, in the end everything worked out, but I’m hoping he’ll come back and run this again with us (but from the tincup side) and show everyone how much in control he is now.
To put it carefully, perhaps the Renegade driver lacks a bit on wheel placement and throttle control... But wow... what a tough little machine. Going beserk mode nearly all the time crushing rocks instead of out manouvering them -- I thought it would quit much much earlier!
Chriscovery agree, but he learned. Next year, I want to get him back on this trail to show how far he has come. We’ll see if it happens. Thanks for watching.
I wouldn't want to buy that Renegade used :). But, great storytelling and awesome shots. I've ran that trail several times in a stock Liberty, it definitely takes careful tire placement and patience. Do you guys ever do meet ups?
😂 yeah! Thank you! We try to get a wide variety of vehicles in the trail guides if feasible. The biggest issue is scheduling as we all have weird schedules, especially me. We are hoping to do some overland type adventures in the future which will be less trail guide (we’ll still shoot those mostly though) but more adventure. I’m not a very good vlogger tho so I’m not sure how to do that yet. I think we tried on wheeler lake so I might play around with the footage to see if I can make something decent. However, that’s my idea on getting more people in the videos... figure we can have a big group and just go adventuring. Thank you for watching!
Colorado Mallcrawlers If or when you do a meet up, I would be down to join. I live in Littleton with a Cherokee Trailhawk. Currently, the only mods I have done is the Hazard Sky lift and running 265/65’s on it. More to come tho.
Cool, find me on Facebook... I have a schedule right now with Sundays and Mondays off, otherwise work at 8p the other days so I’m pretty flexible right now. Likely shooting something tomorrow.
We ran Tin Cup/Napoleon/Hancock last week (8/11) in our RZR. The guy at the St Elmo store said a bear (nicknamed "two-tags") has been tearing up St Elmo. I rigged a tree lift for our food at our campsite and we had no problems.
WorkFromHomeFriday yeah, it was the group next to us that left their stuff open and brought the bears. A open CJ7 definitely had a bear inside it. I’m not too worried about bears, but mountain lions are a different story. I’ve seen some at work that are just massive!
Yeah, the biggest I’ve seen is this one near somerset co. We’re about 15ft in the air in a locomotive and this cat was 20-30ft ahead of us on the tracks. It’s whole butt filled the width of the tracks. I thought it was an escaped African lion 😂
@@coloradomallcrawlers I did Imogene and Engineer this past August and one of my main phobias was breaking something and having to be rescued and hauled down the mountain. Not only ruins your day, but everyone else's day on the trail due to clogging up the works.
Yeah, it’s a pain and one reason I try to wheel with people I know and trust now. Still, even the most built vehicle can break on the trail so it’s just part of off-roading.
At he beginning of this Video, watching that neon orange Renegade, I was LMAO thinking "oh...this is gunna be good!" But Damn! That scrawny little thing with the golf cart tires kicked butt!! Had the dude been a little less reckless (as in slow down) he would have made it out just fine! Just goes to show ya that you don't necessarily need a 9" lift kit with 37" tires!🤣
I really wish they gave the renegade a 2 speed transfer case, it does awesome and a 2 speed would make it a real bamf I’m in so cal so we will prob never wheel together but y’all seem like a real fun crew 👏🏼👍🏼👏🏼
I sometimes wish for lower gearing in my 2015 Renegade Trailhawk, but then I think about all of the places my father went in his '86 Bronco II Eddie Bauer with automatic trans that got a similar "twenty point something to one" crawl ratio from a 2.42 first gear, a 2.42 low range reduction, and 3.42:1 final drives. It took that to do what my Renegade Trailhawk does with a 4.8:1 first gear and 4.33 :1 final drives. And, my father took that Bronco II places that would have passengers needing spatulas to pry their puckered butts off his eighties velour upholstery, too. Having the 2:1 torque multiplication from the torque converter made his "B2" feel and act like it was lower geared than it was. Same deal for me in my Renegade. So, when I decided to buy, I wasn't worried too much about how the Renegade got 20:1 and I figured the 2:1 torque multiplication from the torque converter wasn't factored in, as it generally never is. What I was more concerned about was fully independent suspension. In reality, on trails like this one in this video, it doesn't suck nearly as much as I feared it would. Mine's stock except for 225 section BFG KO2's on the factory wheels. Future mods include cross bars for the roof rails and a factory or factory-type receiver hitch. And that's it. I'll let the vehicle's 8.9" of ground clearance, 30 degree approach, 25 degree breakover, and 32 degree departure angle be the "fuse" preventing me from taking it where it shouldn't go, and therefore helping prevent me from breaking anything important or expensive. But I'd do Tin Cup Pass in it without hesitation if I could do it with a friend in another vehicle. I won't be driving mine "full send" like the guy in this video drives his, though. ;)
just a tip, reverse gear is your weak link, never pull someone out in reverse, good way to damage your stuff. Renegade was due to be broken, pushed it a lil to roughly id say.
Jeeping with Jenn & John Yeah, we understood that, but it was the only way here. However, it was a very light tug as I was just high centered. He definitely did, but you gotta learn somewhere! Still, that Jeep took a beating! Thanks buddy!
Ya given the situation we were in, there was no way I could turn around cuz there was no room to do so. And i didn't have to pull very hard. That said maybe gift me the money for a steel bumper I want, and I can put my new warn 10000 lb winch on now, and then that wouldn't have been any issue to the jeeping community 😉
@@seanwatson3790 just offering some advice, it is always situational as you stated but as someone who has sheared ring gears i think its something worth noting. take it as you will, but save the e begging for someone, uh less roughneck, than i.
In the beginning I was like I wonder which one breaks and then I saw the renegade driver. I wonder if next time he will take it easy. Not to be disrespectful but when he went full send and hit the horn I about died laughing 😂🤣😆
Yeah, I’m sure he laughed when watched that too... heck I laugh when I do it. I’m certain that he will as we all learned a lot from this day. Thanks for watching! I appreciate it!
I have seen pickups on this for sure. The only thing is I’d make sure the pickup is tough so I’d have some skid plates and rock rails. However, you could do this trail without those by being careful with your line choices.
Just think way back in the 50's, one could drive a 1950 4 door Ford over Tin Cup pass. Once I found the new Tin Cup I never returned to the washed out Old Tin Cup.
I heard Tin Cup was cleaned up a bunch after we filmed this video. It’s just the normal cycle of mountain trails dealing with snow runoff and enthusiast use.
Interesting, what happened on mosquito pass? Trails do change based on various factors. For instance I heard they smoothed out tincup since we shot this. I found mosquito rather easy tho, but if you start it via birdseye gulch, it’s much harder.
@@coloradomallcrawlers Mosquito had just opened 2 days prior and there was a lot of snow-melt running down the shelf roads. The switchbacks were washed out which left the boulders way more exposed. My 92YJ is a standard so I didnt have much choice than to just keep pounding over them without stopping and pray nothing broke.
@@coloradomallcrawlers same trip, Deer lake on Tincup trail was about 3 or more feet high. Had just enough lift and tire to keep only the bottom of the floor pan in the water
Please advise what mode the Renegade was in for the trail. My 2015 Renegade Trailhawk in Rock mode with the descent control on does not lurch ahead like that. I have had several other Jeeps in the past. Its a very different feeling keeping the power on and letting the system brake wheels as it sees fit to send power where it will move the vehicle ahead. Im from the east, very different terrain on ME, NH, and VT logging roads and woods. Glacial rocks and logs, mud and hills slick with logging slash and snow.
I don’t drive a renegade. We’ll do a walkaround of Davon’s renegade (blue one in slaughterhouse) and I’ll talk to him about doing a lesson for y’all. He has gotten that renegade to places people would never guess it’d go. Thanks for watching!
What do you mean? I’m trying to cover trails I haven’t already done and I have a Saxon guide altho it’ll need to be improved upon sometime in the future.
Mark Jackson I think you’d be ok. Just drive a bit more cautiously than Mike. Go with another also. The biggest concern is the descent at the top, but I believe the renegade’s low range should keep you in control. Have fun!
the guy in the renegade makes all renegade drivers look bad with that driving and rig set up for that trail jeeeeeeeesh that was painful to watch. that aside, Awesome trail and footage.
collin hutcheson grey is 2in, black is 3in. Later videos, grey gets the 3in. He will talk about his reasons and build in a future video if there’s interest for it.
It www so stock it even had street tires on it. We at least got him to air down a tiny bit which I think helped him a little bit keep from puncturing a tire. But we did it , cautiously. Just from 40 to 30 psi. I don't know that the tires could have handled more than that
This guy is simply killing Renegade. I am curious how Renegade survived even!! He was risking to smash it . This video speaks how good is standard Renegade Trailhawk!!! When you see someone driving that way better to guide him and loose little more time instead of loosing car and risking to destroy whole day and excitements from the beautiful nature and offloading. I am Renegade Trailhawk owner and was feeling pain each time he was smashing his car on the rocks :(
Mikheil Saralishvili I explained everything in a pinned comment. We agree, but it wasn’t so simple, I only saw all of this once editing. Thanks for watching!
11:52 I'm like WTF 👍 you go boy if it breaks replace it with something stronger!! If that Renegade got a 4" lift and some meatier tires would have been good to go.
We must be starting to get big time finally , cus now we are getting comments , and people making fun of us , and being know it alls and I love it cuz that means people are paying attention to us now 😂
Sean Watson well as we saw in the Chihuahua vid, I got some when I first started this. However, they had mostly stopped besides some light hearted fun (by most) about the way I say Colorado 😂 (which by the way has like 6 accepted pronunciations per Next with Kyle Clark 😉). Comments are good no matter what is said, but the commenter must own them and I’ll own mine. Unfortunately our friend Zed deleted his, but they were screenshot for probably a future video. People are just going to be asses as it’s easy to hide behind a keyboard. I’m just not a fan of comments that are being disrespectfully hard on Mike or anyone in the videos. Did he wheel recklessly? Yes. Did he learn and get home safely? Also yes. He is just a dude that bought a Jeep and wanted to enjoy exploring this beautiful state! He learned a valuable lesson on this trail. I may have not learned this lesson on the trail, but I learned it by being active with Midsouth Jeeps. We did some of the roughest east coast bashing around and people broke, a lot. It’s either going to happen to you, or you’ll see it happen to a buddy... the key is to learn from it.
I don't say that from a critical perspective. Your content is top notch, I'm subscribed to a ton of overland type content and no one is doing what your doing as far as the detailed trail reviews. This channel is going to skyrocket at some point. Keep up the great work!!
I really appreciate that and I totally understand. My pinned comment was for some jerks who weren’t respectful. Some were deleted by the commenter, some still might be there. Anyway, thank you, but bare with us. I’m still learning how to make these. I’m not always happy with the footage I shot in 2020, but I’m trying to improve it. I’ve been thinking about the 2021 videos and I hope and think they will get much better!
I was a bit surprised that you rated this difficult, but it has been at least 10 years since I last drove it, so maybe the trail has deteriorated, as I don't remember it as being particularly difficult.
Oops thought this was for Aldrich Lakes. Funtreks and trailsoffroad rated it as difficult. I agree with them. Old tincup increases the difficulty, but the top has some pretty eroded sections. It’s no Holy Cross or even Wheeler Lake, but you should have a decent enough off-roader. Thanks for watching!
Good Grief!! You're a Trail Guide and didn't even coach these guys on driving a trail? Nobody guides them around the obstacles, but totally ok with videoing their foibles.
Hi Terry, the video becomes a trail guide after filming using source material from Funtreks and TrailsOffRoad. I’m a participant, videographer, channel host, and video’s editor. I’m not functioning as a trail guide in these videos, the VIDEO is the trail guide. If I was functioning as a trail guide in the videos, I wouldn’t be able to film them. SO you are welcome to pay me money and I’ll safely guide you on any trail you want, but I won’t be filming. If I need to pre-run it, that’ll be extra. If you want it filmed, that’ll be additional money as I’ll hire Sean or Zach for their camera skills. They won’t be paid cheaply so that’ll get pretty expensive. OR you can use THIS FREE VIDEO as a trail guide to prepare yourself for the trail. Mike is a great guy and we discussed all of this prior to uploading, however, I didn’t expect to have so many critics and Backseat drivers here. We simply went off-road as a crew and filmed the trip. After the trip, I went back over the footage and made it a trail guide.
It seems everyone driving Willy Nilly in this video. The Renegade driver looks like he was driving to destroy the thing. Not sure people should look at this as a guide in anyway other than what not to do.
The renegade driver was new, the rest of us have a solid track record of getting through trails without issue. In 20 years of off-roading, I’ve never had to be recovered. However, I’d love to take a lesson from you to improve my skill set… Let’s set it up!
Bit my lip at first and wasn't going to say anything...I cant help it. First I admire everyone who wants to go off road and enjoy the beautiful sights that off roading has to offer. OK now necessities are out the way I will just be frank. I've only road a couple trails over in the Silverton and Ouray area, but I must assume that all the trail heads post a sign that says High Clearance Vehicles Only. The only High Clearance vehicle was the the Ruby!!! It was designed for this type riding and the components are design to do this type trail riding. The other vehicles(we saw the damage) are not designed for this extreme riding...period! They have smaller axles, smaller tie rods, tranny gears are smaller too, and most importantly they are not High Clearance Vehicles. Call me an Ass...as I don't care because when you breakdown and have to recover these vehicles, you put the other trail riders in danger. As usually we have to make room when there is not any room to move over ex. Engineer Pass. There are plenty of Trail Guides that can give the appropriate trails for these vehicles...use them!!! I'm from the deep south and fortunately I do have a Ruby and HL Razor, which are adequate for the types of riding I do. Safety First Thank you
This wasn’t extreme trail riding and I’d absolutely recommend all these vehicles on this trail, we just had a bad day. I’d respectfully disagree. I’ve been wheeling for twenty years and I can tell you I’ve dealt with two recoveries on trailhawks, and about twenty on “built” wranglers. Off-roading has necessary risk built into the activity and you should find another hobby if you’re not willing to help another. Because I can guarantee, you do this long enough and push your vehicle appropriately, you will one day need help from another off-roader. Here’s a trail rated as severe where the Cherokee did it easier than my rubicon to illustrate my point. Thanks for watching! th-cam.com/video/hW5lUTPHZKs/w-d-xo.html
@@coloradomallcrawlers No offense was meant, but then again, the cardinal damages says different. Please keep doing the videos that you are showing as many here like the great views that keep me and others wanting to come back to the mountain adventures. Cheers
I do get that and appreciate your comment. I started the channel because I was being told that I shouldn’t be wheeling a stock rig on the trails I do. Usually from brand new wrangler owners. But real quick... The only vehicle here that was truly damaged, was the renegade. Considering Davon (blue renegade in vids) has done much harder trails in his without one single issue, I think it’s a fairly capable rig. Maybe I over sold the damage to the other vehicles... this was an early video. None of us cared. The renegade was recovered by our team without outside assistance and he drove it all the way to Denver with its trail fix. To me, this was a win. Mike learned, I learned, and we all learned how people respond to the way I edit these videos.
@@coloradomallcrawlers I too have the 2012 Ruby and yes this is my second 2012. I'm not a hard core wheeler...yet an avid one and I feel the 2012 was one of the best. My current ride is sporting 35 and my razor 32's. Keep in mind bigger is not always better, but finding the right setup for the right trails is the key. Also sorry for Hijacking this thread. Heading your way this June and July...if we cross trails lets drink beer, Cheers
Dude was driving that thing like he had ZERO fucks to give. love it!
Yeah, there’s a backstory to this that I should have done better at explaining. He was bullied for owning a renegade in a FB Jeep group.
Thank you! We hope to get back to tincup ourselves this year. You guys have fun!
When the Compass was getting spotted, the driver did really well for not having been off road before. This outing and video footage will be a helpful addition to their knowledge in the off road world.
For sure!
I bet that was fun! He definitely learned from this, we all did!
Would love to see a WW2 era stock Willys and Renegade TH tackle this together.
Buddha Health He had it back running a day or so later thanks to Zach and fully fixed by the next weekend I believe.
Buddha Health tie rod, it’s in the other video on the recovery of it.
@chrisjames8580 As my wife says: Move over or smile as you go under!
We've all done stupid things in fun vehicles. This guy is immortalized on TH-cam. Been there, done that.
Yeah, same here, and I was amazed that this video got hate as it was a part of wheeling in my opinion. However, we are going to film this trail again and Mike will silence the haters by showing he learned from this.
@@coloradomallcrawlers I'd watch that! Maybe visit a good puddle of mud - people can gun it and have some fun :)
Awesome video. I have a 2019 Cherokee Trailhawk and cant wait to run it thru this trail. I cant believe that Renegade go thru most of that.. that thing got hammered!
Those little renegades are pretty durable!
Definitely plan on always doing that! Thanks for the support buddy!
Going up old Tincup would be a blast!! Thanks Dewie!
@@coloradomallcrawlers That's going to be great! Time to air down, ha!
Dude in the orange Jeep is brave as hell. A lot braver than I'd be in a new vehicle.
Lol, I thought this comment was going to be for Mt. Baldy. Thanks!
Wow! Fantastic scenery. Reminds me of St Johns and Deer Creek outside of Monazuma. Loved watching this. Renegade was amazing. Had to watch the rescue, amazing as well.
Thanks so much! It sure was!
Just ran this trail for the first time yesterday. Elmo to tincup.
Your video really helped !
Thanks
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
This music made me want to come along for the ride. Love the addition of all the old houses/buildings
Well, let’s take your 4Runner as I’m told I don’t film enough Toyotas 😉
Definitely added to my list this year, thanks for play by play. Really helps with a rig like mine.
I’m glad the video was helpful!
It was definitely an adventure! Thanks for watching!
"this isn't the way to the mall" -that renegade
Driving critiques aside I enjoyed seeing what the renegade is capable of. I own a Deserthawk and am new to off roading. It’s nice to see that they’re more than capable. It’s my daily driver and would like to take it out on some easy trails around my neck of the woods to start out and it gives me some perspective to the capabilities. Thanks for the video!
Definitely do!
Do it! Mine has taken me places most people would presume it isn't capable of getting to.
Another great video. And the Oscar goes to..... the Renegade. That was fun.
Thank you and absolutely! He definitely pushed that machine!
Good to know! Thanks!
Another great video Dewey ! Loved the ‘other’ Jeeps too ! Keep it up ! Hope to get to wheel with you some day :)
Thanks so much and that’d be awesome!
I can’t believe you let a stock renegade not only drive that trail but drive it so carelessly. Nonetheless, I’d love to join you all someday.
Well, I agree. We tried at times to get him to go more cautiously, but I’m also not one to tell a person how to wheel their vehicle. I think he learned a valuable lesson though. Yeah, definitely!
I was thinking the same thing. "Dude! Wheel placement!" "Dude! Slow down!!" (But, when I was that age, I had the same style in my stock 94 Explorer.)
From what I can tell, he has no idea how to select 4lo.
You should also do a trail review for Hancock Pass, if you decided to go let me know! I've wanted to do that pass for a while now!
Yeah it’s on the list, just not sure when.
Camping atop Tincup Pass on a moonless night is amazing.
I bet! Mt. Antero wasn’t bad, but maybe when we come back here, we’ll consider this. Thanks!
You do a fantastic job on your videos!
That sounds like a fun loop for a full weekend! Thanks for watching!
Yes, but trail conditions can change so use your judgement. Your hiking buds will love that!
electric sway bar disconnect is awesome but nothing beats good old Manuel disconnect just simply pull the pin
Yeah, me too! I do think it would have been fine with a softer touch while wheeling, but those would definitely have helped! Thank you!
It didn't need lift and tires as much as it seems to have needed a "driver mod," IMHO.
Just found your channel
You really deserve way more subscriber!!!
Thank you! I appreciate it and I do appreciate every subscriber... it may eventually catch on, but I’m still new at it. Most of the videos I’m still editing are filmed within a year of starting the channel. I’m hoping the next summer’s ones will be better!
Awesome video Dewey. Definitely looking professional.
Thank you my friend! I’m looking forward to overlanding with you!
Sway bar motor? You have sway bars? These are Mall Crawlers! 😂 I'm having a blast watching you guys beat up yer Almost Jeeps. Hey good on ya for getting out there. CO sure is fun!
Dude in the orange is the definition of drive it like you stole it!! Slow and control wins in off-roading
Years ago i used to ride my dirtbuke up there. Dont think i could do it now
I bet that was fun!
@coloradomallcrawlers it was! We used to ride the loop from tin cup to Hancock pass
The guy in the red renegade is fearless 😂
Very nice trails. I really like your videos you make very good shots 👍
Thank you so much! I’m trying as I don’t want waste your time.
Very great video! I haven’t hit these trails but want to next summer for sure. Looks awesome up there. I want to hit Pearl Pass and Taylor Pass too
You have too... it so pretty and there are so many trails around there! Thanks buddy!
@@coloradomallcrawlers We've had lions picked up on our driveway cam. Those dudes are HUGE.
Yeah, the biggest I’ve seen is this one near somerset co. We’re about 15ft in the air in a locomotive and this cat was 20-30ft ahead of us on the tracks. It’s whole butt filled the width of the tracks. I thought it was an escaped African lion 😂
Is the dude in the Renegade trying to break something? He's just ripping right through everything in his path!
He got bullied online for wanting to wheel a renegade so he went a bit too hard trying to prove them wrong.
@@coloradomallcrawlers He may want to upgrade to a Rubicon if that is how he wheels. Breaking down on a 12,000 foot mountain pass is very expensive.
Yeah, I’ve talked to him, we’re going to refilm tincup next summer from tincup Eastward and he’s going to redeem himself. He’s a good dude!
Yeah he was new to wheeling back then.
I really wish they gave the renegade a 2 speed transfer case, it does awesome and a 2 speed would make it a real bamf I’m in so cal so we will prob never wheel together but y’all seem like a real fun crew 👏🏼👍🏼👏🏼
Yeah, I wish they did too! Maybe in the future as Jeep realizes all kinds of Jeeps want to venture into harder and harder trails. Thanks for watching!
I won't be driving mine "full send" like the guy in this video drives his, though. ;)
You finally got to eat 🍔🍟 at the end of the video.😄
Long day but rewarding reward… I hope to show off more great local spots in future videos.
just a tip, reverse gear is your weak link, never pull someone out in reverse, good way to damage your stuff.

Can pickups do this or just small suv
I have seen pickups on this for sure. The only thing is I’d make sure the pickup is tough so I’d have some skid plates and rock rails. However, you could do this trail without those by being careful with your line choices.
Great videos...I like to view at 1.25 speed.
I’m working on pacing… I’m taking my first video making course later this month, should help a lot.
22:12 That's Jan's in BV, right?
It was!
I'm really surprised this trail is rated harder than Mosquito. Tincup is out favorite trail, but I dont plan on ever going over mosquito again.

Colorado Mallcrawlers Sweet! I’ll check it out. I ask this because I worry about my Renegade handling this trail. What are your opinions?
Mark Jackson I think you’d be ok. Just drive a bit more cautiously than Mike. Go with another also. The biggest concern is the descent at the top, but I believe the renegade’s low range should keep you in control. Have fun!
the guy in the renegade makes all renegade drivers look bad with that driving and rig set up for that trail jeeeeeeeesh that was painful to watch. that aside, Awesome trail and footage.

Any lift or tires on the renegade?

Amazing! Jeep owes that guy a new rig for all the "clout" he just gained for that Trailhawk!
Lol, you should see the slaughterhouse one. That renegade has done top of the world and other similar trails. Thanks for watching!
Those guys going way to fast over some stuff i can't wait to get back to Colorado from ny this time driving My truck
honestly if he had around 1.5 inches more lift he would have been fine.
You still have to not stress your vehicle too much tho… the goal is to get home. Still, he was new, we have to learn somewhere.
Safety First
Thank you
This wasn’t extreme trail riding and I’d absolutely recommend all these vehicles on this trail, we just had a bad day.
