But that platform event will work if there is a middleware ...but what if there is no middleware and its point to point integration ? In that case if 120 sec pass , do we have to put some kind of retry logic in our apex code to retry the callout again ?

Yes correct you need to add retry logic as the time exceeds as this callout was failed ( as took more than 120 sec)

@@salesforcein5minutes ok also with no Middleware PE will only work if external application have CometD installed in their machines to listen to PE . Correct ?
