    Mapo none of us knew how to play Subnautica on our first runs either, that’s the fun of it!
    Swimming around and stumbling through progress is what makes the game so rewarding. The most common thing Subnautica fans say is “God I wish I could experience the game for the first time again”, because the learning/exploration is the best part of it. That’s also why so many of us love watching lets players!

    1:38:00 the beacon signal never diappeared, you were hovering over it and never looked straight down... On the other hand, beacons disappear when you're closer than 20 meters approximately. I think that Subnautica is deliberately designed to feel overwhelming in the beginning, because that is how the protagonist must feel. Answer on the beacons disappearing if you want it (ignore if not):
    Beacons given by the radio disappear when you visit them for the first time (annoying I know as it confuses everyone! but I think it was to prevent players being overwhelmed by beacons on the screen) - just turn it off and on again and it'll stay on indefinitely after the first visit.

    This is a really interesting playthrough from a player useablity standpoint. Mapo comes in with minimal survival game experience and makes logical deductions on how to build a base etc. But he's misintepreting stuff that the devs just assumed you would probably know from other survival games, like building your own base from scratch. From the naming of the degassi base to the log that he finds it all sets him up to think about retrofitting that base. Also there's stuff like the radio message icon being onscreen but there's no explanation in-game as to what it means so he doesn't go check the radio, which funnily enough is the game's breadcrumb trail to help you find new tech like the seamoth etc. As a game designer myself I think we can learn lessons from a playthrough like this as to how new players react to a more freeform structured game like Subnautica, where maybe a little extra nudge might help from the devs to steer players. What is cool though is how open ended the structure of the game is, like there's no reason you can't 'skip' ahead to the degassi base if you build pipe chains or take multiple oxygen tanks etc.

    • @cassiohenrique6815
      @cassiohenrique6815 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the only other thing they could add is an audio cue, like "new message". Other than that its entely on Mapo no paying attention.
      Like the beacon wich was clearly at the bottom of the screen, in a different color that he set, yet refused to look at.
      I'm also pretty sure he has not realised, at least to this point, that you get a icon showing up when you have not yet scanned something.
      If you explain to much, people will complain you are explaining to much.

    The logic for losing your belongings when you die is tied to what was in your inventory when you last entered a base (in this case either your lifepod or a habitat you construct). When you die you will keep all the items you had when were last in your base along with 1 random item you picked up since then, losing everything else. I think for your first death that was the Copper you mined while exploring.
    For the beacon logic, it will automatically hide itself once you reach the location the first time, but you can reactivate it if you go back into your PDA. It will only do this once however, any time in the future it will not disappear even if you go close to it again. There were many times where the beacons were just beneath you or camouflaged in the background.
    One other thing, in your blueprint menu, the categories tell you where you can craft the item. So the Seamoth appears under the Mobile Vehicle Bay section, and the Ultra glide fins you found a blueprint for are under the Modification Station section.

      I admit I'm not quite finished with the video but I posted a comment. There is an in world explanation for why some "beacons" disappear when you locate them. I put a big space in case someone doesn't want to read it but the beacon for the base in the cave is functioning as intended.

    • @noisecrime
      @noisecrime ปีที่แล้ว +2

      While there might be a bug, in the case of this video at 1:40:00 the beacon hasn't disappeared, he is simply directly above it, so its at the bottom of the screen. In fact it pretty much never disappears at all if you watch it, it just stays within the seamoth at the bottom of the screen - granted a bit hard to see, but it is there. This is why you want to use actual beacons to mark entrances/exits to cave systems as it makes them easier to find than some beacon deep within the cave system.

    • @testfire3000
      @testfire3000 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No the beacons disappearing is not a bug, the game is programmed for this. Beacons that target locations like a pod or a Degassi base will disappear once you come within 10m of them. All you have to do is go into your beacon manager on the PDA and toggle it off and back on. Then you have re-set it and it will again automatically turn off next time you are within 10m.
      However if you build a "Beacon" those stay on forever. Same with the tracking for your starting life pod and any vehicle you build. Those don't turn off unless you do so on the beacon manager.

    • @johanwittens7712
      @johanwittens7712 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elaine_of_shalott6587t still is a pain and bad design though.
      I honestly cant believe they still havent fixed it. When you go to an automatic beacon you recieved like at 48:00 , it's automatically removed from your visible beacons once you leave. But for some reason the visibility icon on your PDA stays on like its still visible even though it definitely isn't.
      This should have been fixed ages ago.
      Either simply keep the beacon visible and let people turn them off themselves, or set the little icon to invisible if it automatically deactivates. Can't be that hard now can it?
      Now it's just confusing for no reason. The beacon manager says it's visible even though it really isn't. How is that helping anyone? No matter the "in world explanation".

    1:26:26 Possibly. You also just noticed the radio messages a minute or so ago. Earlier when you were talking about the game being overwhelming because it didn't have any structured path to it I was thinking to myself, man he really needs to check his radio because that'll be a godsend for him. This game actually does a great job of giving you direction in the early to mid game through the radio messages and the life pods etc. So I think now that youve noticed when you have radio messages and are more likely to check them it'll go a bit smoother for you perhaps and feel less overwhelming.

    Great to see the episodes coming in!
    A couple quality-of-life tips, some ppl already mentioned it and its likely that you got it already figured out in upcoming episodes but maybe it will be a handy, no-spoiler summary:
    - Most important- don't feel like you need to make progress, sometimes you will get stuck and thats fine. just chill out and go exploring. Much like Outer Wilds its an exploration expirience and the game will reward you for that
    - HUD tip - you already noticed the radio pop up, there is also a scanner icon in bottom right corner that shows up when you point your coursor at something that you haven't scanned yet
    - Rebreather - it won't give you any extra oxygen, but its extremly useful when going deep, like over 100-200 meters deep if you know what i mean. in most cases much more useful than radiation mask
    - Beacons - you can turn them on and off from the menu and when its not showing up than a quick off-on should do the trick
    Other than that just have fun. You are doing great, the begginning is a little overwhelming but you will figure it out soon and its just gonna get better and better.

    37:00 I got the feeling that everyone who played this game at some point tried to use the habitat builder to dismantle parts of the lifepods and retrieve the materials/blueprints. I guess (and I'm speculating here within the game lore) that you can only deconstruct things you build with your own habitat builder. Similar features are applied in other survival games, for example: "Empyrion Galactic Survival" or "Rust". If not, it would be very easy to raid a base in PvP mode. In Empyrion, you can only deconstruct parts once you've taken property of the building by destroying the enemy's Cpu and replacing it with one of your own.

So I'll just tell you this: follow the radio messages, explore wrecks, don't hoard everything (get what you need at the moment, there's so many things to discover by searching resources and it helps with the pacing of discovery to just get what you need)... and be aware of your surroundings.

And don't worry about that extra seaglide - never hurts to have a spare. Tips with no spoilers :
    Food : to avoid spoiled food use salt deposits to salt the food like they used to do back when refrigeration hadn't been invented.
    Water : using coral and salt you can fabricate bleach, with it you can make a large bottle of desinfected water.
    Batteries & tools : all Tools have swappable batteries, when the battery runs out the game will show you the key to swap batterys.
    ( There's blueprints for battery and powercell chargers but these must be found and scanned to aquire. )
    The Aurora's Wreck, to explore this place it is recommended that you first gather these tools :
    -Repair tool.
    -scanner.
    -fire extinguisher.
    -PRO-pulsion Cannon, not RE-pulsion Cannon.
    -Lazer cutter.
    Stalker teeth : Stalkers will drop thier teeth for you to pick up by simply giving them metal salvage.
    Medkits : they can be fabricated with fiber mesh at the fabricator in case of emergency.
    I probably missed something but i rather not say as much to ensure that you truly play blindly, the game rewards your curiosity, scan everything! Almost forgot.. You may stumble across time capsules which contain items from other players that have completed the game, these are subjected to a review process before they show up on other players world's, so it is highly unlikely you'll get spoiled from these, some prefer not to pick them up until the end others don't care, it is like always up to you!

    Never forget that we all started that way. I remember my first time playing being a total mess, cluttering every available locker with Acid Mushrooms, good times. As i keep replaying the game, my item lists get leaner and leaner, requiring A LOT less locker space and speeding up progress SO MUCH. But i think it takes some time to understand how the game communicates what to do in what order.
    The early confusion, though, is absolutely intentional as a part of immersive storytelling. You're a nobody stranded on a foreign planet, not exactly a marine-biologist. If i was in that situation i would also get hold of all kinds of things and hoard them like there's no tomorrow, who knows if i'll come across more of that stuff. Time would tell what is essential and what isn't. Maybe it's a copout, because i know more than a few people who were quite frustrated with how little progress they made at times, but i think it's quite smart and part of the journey.

    The idea of using multiple tanks for more bottom time is actually a very good one that a lot of players resist because they want to pick up EVERYTHING. But often, just knowing where to get stuff and being able to get to it is more important than having a lot of stuff. The longer you're down, the more you discover and scan and the more the game opens up.
    Just don't forget to switch to each one so they refill when you get back to the surface. And since they're not any bigger in the inventory, you should make your spare tank a high capacity as well.
    You also swim faster with your hands empty, so if you don't NEED what's in your hand, put it away till you do.
    I found it interesting that you commented a few times on getting thirsty fast. That happens in real life too. Compressed air in scuba tanks is dry so you tend to get dehydrated in a dive. You inhale cool dry air and exhale warm moist air. (you're also getting a lot of exercise which dehydrates you even more) It's normal to take some fruit juice or something for after your dive. (especially if you're going back in for a second dive later)
    When you get some free time, it's a good idea to look up ALL the recipes in the fabricator and figure out the fabrication chains for each. There's some important stuff that's easy to miss.
    The issue with the base beacon seems like a bug. They're supposed to always be visible. You could try turning it's visibility off, closing the PDA, then going back in and turning it back on. Might work, might not.
    You can also use the lifepod as a reference to find stuff. How far from the lifepod are you and in what direction?
    Also, that base should be out of the radiation zone. Get directly over top of it and switch to the rebreather to check. In fact, to find most stuff, you should start directly over top of it and go straight down if possible. Sometimes that's not possible, but it works well in the early game.
    When you're ready for an expedition to the Aurora, you can hopefully solve the radiation issue.
    You're doing really well for your first couple of episodes. You pay attention to most things and use logic to figure things out. There's a lot to learn in Subnautica, but it looks like you'll have an easier time than a lot of people do.
    One thing you might want to consider is lowering your mouse sensitivity. You're whipping your view around so fast you miss a lot of stuff that you could be scanning. There was more stuff to scan outside of the base at 250m, but it's the resources down there that will also be of interest to you. Go back with 1 or 2 spare tanks and comb the area with your flashlight out.
    Or, pick a spot further from the Aurora (outside the radiation zone) and explore as deep as you can. Good stuff is often found deep.
