This is an amazing clip, because it shows that Jimi had his own style and sound early on. It is not true that he only developed it in England-that's where he got the Experience together, but long before that he didn't sound like anyone else on the circuit.
.....A good friend of mine, he's long gone now, was with Little Richard the night he first heard Hendrix. He looked him and then looked at his guitar player and said, "Your fired". He hired Jimi on the spot...........
Yes, even though he's playing without any effects and no sustained feedback, his phrasing is like a voice imprint. I first heard this gig on a French semi-bootleg album called "Driving South" and it was very easy to spot his way of playing
@@philskovby2917 Just checked and this is the first track of 20 off CD 2 of a 2CD live compilation boot "Curtis Knight & The Squires Vol. 1 - Live". CD1 is 21 tracks starting with "You Got What it takes". Recording info's from the liner notes.
Absolutely no one at the time could have predicted the colossal impact this quiet, smartly dressed backing guitarist would have on music. God bless you Jimi.
Funny how in these early photos, Hendrix he looks like he's thinking, "Hey fellas, don't worry. I'm just looking for place to hang my hat for the night -- I won't be here long!"
Jimi Hendrix before he became famous played in several big name bands before he went solo. The Isley Brothers, Little Richard and several others on the Chitlin circuit. This is an early example.
Tina Turner, Little Richard and the Isley brothers all had Hendrix in their bands and they had no idea what he was about to become. They had him in the background and didn't want him to stand out.He later made them all look stupid!
I've been a fan of Jimi Hendrix since I first heard him over 50 years ago; I"m almost 70. He's my fav musician. I've also been reading a ton on him and listening to numerous interviews, etc many of which say he played with Ike and Tina Turner. Problem is, I've yet to find concrete evidence that he played with them. The closest I get is that he played at an event where Ike and Turner also played but they did not play together, key word, together. I also seem to remember someone asking Tina if she had ever met Jimi and she said no but if she had she'd walked up to him and given him a big hug. Can you provide me any hardcore proof of them playing together, not one before or after the other, etc? I would love for it to be true, but as with so many things with Jimi, there are a lot of untruths / myths. out there about him. Thanks. This is what I get in researching the topic on google. Did Jimi Hendrix play with Ike and Tina Turner? Tina has said jimi was never apart of the band, but Ike has said not only was jimi in the band but he fired jimi from the band. They had most likely played at the same venue during the Chitlin Circuit, but there hasn't been any proof that I can find them jamming on stage at once.Jul 15, 2022
He was with Curtis Knight & The Squires. This was recorded on December 26th 1965 at the Georges Club 20 in Hackensack New Jersey. Many album's have been released over the years from these shows.
@@markproctor8857 Too bad jimi signed that PPX contract with EDWARD CHALPIN in mid OCTOBER `65 for the next 3yrs. It did however assist in bringing about the BAND OF GYPSYS in 69/70.
What the hell are you talking about ?! The thumbnail shows Hendrix, and the time stamp you put up shows Hendrix. There's absolutely no click bait here.

@@geoffwright1255 nice one thank you!
Boxing Day 1965 I think - the show was broadcast on local radio.
Gotta be my fave Hendrix tract.
Met him in Reno 66-67. I was just a kid but it totally stuck!

Gold!
Jimi ripping out a beautiful lead thanks for sharing 😊
Great!!
You can hear all the Hendrixian moves in his playing, the only thing missing is the volume!
Nice photo of Ike and Tina

Just a little time in The Village, add LSD (every other day), and a TRIP to London... Instant "Electric God" !!
They had to know Jimi was Different! HGUERRA

Does anyone know if jimi played also the guitar on the Studio Version?
Much better than Sam the Sham's version!

Quem canta com Jimi?.
Curtis Knight
Did Jimi Hendrix like "jazz"?...That guy was the "king" of improvisation...it seems he didn't like to play the melody...
0:52 Prince?
Not a great success , but they are trying !
1:55 Thats Ike and Tina Turner, Not Hendrix! Click Bait. Putting up any pictures.
