Finally somebody knows how to do a DIY video. No 1 minute long intro song with graphics. No monologue or stories. Just a straight up repair with explanation.
Man this is a really well done video. Super concise with easy to understand steps along with the fast video. This, along with leaving out fluff. Well done
This is a perfect video! No bullshit, no ads, no "hi there, today we are doing a concrete repair on this corner over here" Just BAM everything you need to know and that's it. Thanks man you're great
Wow 2 minutes to explain how to do a project. Thanks for the short version instead of 10-15 minute slog so many you tubers favor for ads. Of course longer version are more detailed but a brief one is always appreciated!
The time was appropriate for the subject matter. When DIY's like myself look something up on YT, I'll watch the short vids first, 3-5 mins, maybe 5-10 mins, and then if it's complicated or those vids don't cover it well, go to longer vids. I've yet to find a good vid on DIY restoration of terrazzo floors (mid-century Fla.) due to carpet tack board divots. That's a complicated one. This Old House did the best job with it, though.

WOW!! That is incredible!! I had no idea it was possible to do this. There are two really glaring concrete gaps in the corners of my house that could really benefit from the steps outlined in this video. Thanks for this easy, no-BS tutorial!!
This will make it look good for a bit. I looked into this a little deeper, what you need to understand is that concrete lives of its PH level of 14 everytime water penetrates concrete dust blows into a wet crack or salt enters concrete the pH level rises this is what will make concrete wither. So what you are prepping here is the concrete that has already lost it's pH level and you ll put new concrete on top where pH will be 14 this will hold 5 years maybe and then the low pH part will still wither away. What you need to do is remove about 1 to 3 cm or well 1 inch of the concrete that got damaged and start repair from there. You ll have a very long lasting repair this way
I'm glad I came across your comment. I recall seeing a video where the guy chiseled back some but I didn't remember why. I'll need to do this. Menards guy said I don't need to coat with anything first with the quick set cement mix I bought. I hope they're right because I'm trying it tomorrow.
Looks great I guess you don't need tapcons except for "underneath"applications. It really turns a shabby, chipped, neglected, worn-out looking edifice, staircase, sidewalk, curb, foundation, retaining wall, etc etc into a nicely updated and well taken care of feature of your property.
Seeing other repair videos most don't use an adhesive for bonding the new concrete to the old concrete. Is there something special about this concrete that requires a bonding adhesive
How would you repair cracks in a concrete driveway... some are 1 inch+ deep? I've read it's good to use rod bar (cylinder piece of rubber) in large cracks.
We have a 20 yr old short, concrete brick wall that the top row of bricks has come loss and fallen off. The bricks as still in perfect shape but my Dad never used an rebarr because the wall is only 3 bricks high and he felt it wasn't necessary... which it wasn't for the first 20 years. Is there a way I can re-use these bricks... would I need to knock off all the old cement?
you could try to knock off the old mortar and re-use the bricks with mortar, there are some really great brick laying videos on TH-cam that’ll help out
So I had same issue, had it repaired and this winter all the parging cracked off again. The top has now heaved up in a 6 inch circle. We think water is getting in from top as it drops off our roof trough. How do we stop this.?
IVE GOT A GOOD GAP BETWEEN MY HOUSE AND THE BACKYARD BUT THE GAP HAS DIRT WITH SOME WEEDS GROWING OUT. i REMOVED THE WEEDS BUT HOW OR WHAT CAN I DO TO FILL IN THAT GAP WITH CONCRETE HAVING SOIL THERE ALSO?
Did you add some kind of white primer to the concrete towards the end and why would that be needed? Not talking about the adhesive, but towards the end of vide a white 'paint' appears. I'm going to do an edge repair soon and found this helpful, thanks.
What are you going to do with the metal railing? I have a metal railing on my basement walk up and it is rusted as well. Thinking about doing a treated lumber replacement maybe. Great video.
@@HomeRepairTutor thank you! We have a concrete wall in our entryway that is below ground and had to repair 2 cracks. Filled the port holes from resin fill with quick cement now we need to repaint the wall
I dont understand how it got tok complicated over the years. I used to just mix cement, wet the target area a litt bit let it try a bit and apply the mix. None of that bonding stuff. And its still a wall 20 years later
Kids love playing with their toys apparently. Everything in this video felt like an advertisement, too many products today designed for problems that shouldn't even be there. The corner repair had me facepalming hard, couldn't be further from the proper technique if he tried. As you said, a good simple cement mix and some wetting beforehand and it's done.
*303👍Good job an excellent way to go about repairing this thank you for sharing how's it going to been a while since I visited God-bless bye for now Ken*
A new concrete driveway is not a DIY project. If you just pour a bunch of concrete on the ground it will look horrible and then crack into a million pieces shortly thereafter.
Don’t let your glue cure or sap. It should be damp when you apply your patching compound otherwise, if it dries it becomes glossy and actually becomes a bone barrier rather than any help at all pro tip.
We would love to hear from you. Your enthusiasm in turn subscribed to and followed my channel. Once again I thank so many friends around the world for supporting me .....

Is it 8am? Yes. Do I plan on fixing concrete anytime soon? No. Am I still gonna watch this? ABSOLUTELY
Hahaha
😂 thanks buddy
We can do it (7: 33am)

thank you buddy, ya, I’m kind of over the long videos that place 5-6 ads in them and drone on and on, but hopefully this wasn’t too quick

a trick : watch movies on Flixzone. I've been using them for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.
@Corey Luka Definitely, I've been watching on flixzone} for months myself =)

Nice idea with the tapcons didn't think of that
Cool....well explained straight to point. I feel I can do this. I'm a home owner on a budget really can't afford a handy man. So I don't mind trying
Great video. No way can I be that precise with the concrete, but at least I know how to practice in order to get there.
Good video which is not too long and is straight to the point👍👍👍

Nice tips here

It really turns a shabby, chipped, neglected, worn-out looking edifice, staircase, sidewalk, curb, foundation, retaining wall, etc etc into a nicely updated and well taken care of feature of your property.
Tapcons help a lot with anchoring, so I’d use them for small projects to preserve and strengthen the patch 👍🏼
Id even add a bit of tie wire wrap from screw to screw
Great patch
Very informative > THX for sharing!
Seeing other repair videos most don't use an adhesive for bonding the new concrete to the old concrete. Is there something special about this concrete that requires a bonding adhesive
What an informative video. Great job!
Probably should put the screws in first then wash the dust away then apply the primer
👍🏼 that’s another good option, you can shop vac the concrete again
Great vid! does this add structural value to the existing concrete or is this purely for the visuals ?
No structural value, for that you’d need rebar
Concrete adhesive better than dampening the surface?
If I use bonding adhesive, does that mean I don't need to moisten the area being repaired with water?
How much would you charge materials and labour for this job? How cheap/expensive could materials be ?
Thank you.
This is an awesome tutorial thank you
Thank you 🙏🏼
I love it thank you for the information ❤
How much would it cost to repair as shown, labour and materials?
Needed separation for the top and bottom portions, as they are not 1 piece.
Very nice job!
Thank you very much!
Can I use this method to fix driveway cracks?
I'd put the adhesive on the screws too.
Or drill the holes for the screws first?
both are good ideas 👍🏼
Good video. Good audio.
How would you repair cracks in a concrete driveway... some are 1 inch+ deep? I've read it's good to use rod bar (cylinder piece of rubber) in large cracks.
I have a similar situation with my steps, why would I use bonding adhesive (PVA) instead of an acrylic fortifier?
Good stuff 👍
Thankyou
excellent job.
Thanks, can I do this for the bottom of the stair were the first stair being. I hope you understand what I'm asking. Please help if you can.
yes, you’d use a similar method

For the bonding adhesive you said to allow to cure, would that be 24 hours?
per the directions, 2-3 hours depending on temp and humidity
Are you sure the bonding agent was just not pva I use ceramic floor tile adhesive
How long do I have to wait from the bonding to start to put the cement on

That was the concrete drying. Thinner areas dry faster.
Might need to fix that railing soon too lol it’s barely there.

Sand and spray paint with rusoleum
What do you recommend for sanding down/smoothing the concrete when you're ready to refinish the whole wall after repair ( ie paint)?
depends on the finish, you could use a wire brush and paint scraper or grinder with a wheel specifically to remove paint

What was the purpose of drilling in the screews ?
To provide anchors for the new material
That stuff is only meant to be used for less than 1”, or it’ll crack while drying.
We've used it for 3 ft deep augered 4x4 fence posts with success

Can you pour concrete directly on grass for a new driveway? What happens if I don't use concrete form just pour it.
A new concrete driveway is not a DIY project. If you just pour a bunch of concrete on the ground it will look horrible and then crack into a million pieces shortly thereafter.
Awesome
Can you add sand instead just using cement only.?
Concrete bags come pre-mixed with sand and gravel.
What about the color

Is tapcon an abbreviation for something? Yes, novices and rookies need full explanations.
The porch slab is floating on the walls. You shouldn't have adhered the 2 together
Not a professional job. Edges should be trimmed back at least 1/4” deep. Finish looks rough. I’ve done this for 50 years and still enjoy doing it.
