ROBIN LEONARD. . . EXACTLY ! ! ! BRING'S BACK MEMORIES BEING WITH ALL OF MY BROTHER'S AND SISTER'S AND. . . LORI HERE/THERE CRYING BECAUSE IT IS A BEAUTIFUL SONG ! ! !
I have heard this story my whole life from my dad. Now in my late 30's I juat now heard this song for the first time, as I hear him reciting this to my own children. Thank you for this!
I would cry and cry listening to this at age 10 on my Grammas 8 track? Why? What could I have known even then? The melody was soooo beautiful and the story!! ~What COULD I have known?? RIP MAC DAVIS. You moved me so strongly at such a young age.
You won't believe how many years I've been looking for this song. Was beginning to think I'd lost my mind,it was the 70's. Thank you so much for this 💜
I heard this song 'once' in the early eighties...and not again until many years later. I remembered the story behind the song and shared the story with my children and their little friends, and later with my grandchildren. I'm glad that it's here so they can all hear it as I did the first time.
I have been looking for this song forever and am so glad that I found it. I remember it from when I was younger. A great awonderful song, and if you have any imaganation you can see yorself there in this song.
My brother started telling this story to my oldest daughter when she was three and her kittle sister was in the hospital alot. Well he made " biff " so real to her that she ask santa claus to bring her "a biff" boy was he confused! Christmas eve i had to make her a purple bear out of a terry cloth barh robe to stick under the tree. It sure was ugly but she loved it, now my brother tells my 3 yr old grandaughter stories of biff. May biff live on forever.
This song is one of the most heat rendering song of the passage of childhood to adulthood. It should have been the theme to the movie Toy Story 3.It tell the story and emotions that can bring grownups to tears.
When we went to bed at night, 6 LPs (thats Long play for you younger generation. Averaged 10 songs per side) would bbe stacked on the record player and we would go to sleep listening to Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Glenn Cambell, Tammy Wynette, Willie Nelson, Reba McEntire, Hank Williams . . . Mac Davis . . . I have my own collection of Biffs now.
I was talking to my granddaughter a couple of years ago about music. She was five or six at the time. I said something about an album. I noticed a few minutes later that she was thinking real hard about something. I asked her what she was trying to figure out. She asked what an album was. Yep now I've been relegated to one of those old ladies that rode dinosaurs to school. Lol
I absolutely love any and everything Mac Davis. He is such a sweet guy. I met him and found him so nice. I even named my daughter after a song he wrote. He kisses nice too. Does anyone know where and what he is up to these days?
Do not agree, both were the grow up songs, and both equally important, neither should be compared with the other. Both are songs that will live till the end!
this song always made me cry when i was young. It has not lost it's touch even today, so many years after first hearing it.
